Great video, getting a DF30 soon and this really helped. How did you get the engine data on the display? Is it just the 4 pin to nmea cable on the engine?
Where did you purchases the Navigational Arch with the Bimini?,, Thanks!
I purchased it from WhalyboatsUSA
Great video. Question how do you know when your timing belt needs to be replaced on these? I have 6 charter boats that have this motor.
What service interval requires the maintenance you completed in this video? Every x months? Every x hours? Year? Thanks for the help!
If you look in the owner's manual it should list the maintenance schedule for your outboard. For me this was a 2 year or 200 hour service.
Great video. I'm a retired Honda Automotive Master Tech. I got a hack that may help you on oil filter change. Instead of blue paper towels you can use a individual sheet of Reynolds wrap that can be bought almost anywhere. Put the sheet under the filter and when you remove the filter it will run outside of the cowl into you drain pan. We used this hack daily. Hope it might help you !
That is an awesome idea!! Im going to use that next time. Thanks for the tip!!
How long was your throttle and cable set up?
Hi thanks for the video very helpful . I just removed the air filter from my df30a and noticed some oil on the bottom of the case is that something to worry about please
Just what I needed, thanks
Many thanks. Great video. Glenn Australia
great vid...question...did you have to raise your transom?
How much lbs is you mantus dinghy anchor ? Thanks !
Thank you very much. This video is very informational and the only one I could find to show where the spark plugs are located.
How does it perform in 3-5 ft swells?
Thanks for the test, i heard these boats have issues with nose dive, especially when more ppl are on boat, its difficult to plane it. Please share why you even decided to to with this one? Many inflatables are way more faster and stable on water
what lower unit adapter is that for the pump?
Learn a lot from you, thank you
So much trouble to catch one fish.
First thing, awesome video! Secondly, how did you connect the Raymarine display to the outboard? That is a slick setup. Maybe do a video on how to setup the outboard with the Raymarine. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked the video and that's a great idea for a future one.. Long story short, the outboard has a diagnostics port under the cowling. You can purchase a cable from Suzuki that plugs into the port and will give you all the engine data for the sensors your outboard comes with. That cable is then connected to a NMEA 2000 hub and a NMEA 2000 cable plugs into the back of the Raymarine display with the info.. Its plug and play and is easy to do. My engine doesn't have a ton of sensors on it, but I do get RPM, temperature, engine hours, and fuel consumption.. Let me know if you have any questions on it...
awesome, would you be able to show it on video ! :) @@pacificadventure5792
A very informative video about this engine, probably the only one on UA-cam, thank you! I'll be waiting for a video about replacing the timing belt.
Just came across your video, I have a DF30A that has been giving me issues. The first 20 hours was fine, I took it in for maintenance, but after I got it back, it started it to bog down, shake really bad, and then shut off. I took it to two different shops and they can't figure it out. I've had plugs changed, filter, new fuel line from tank to engine, and I use ethanol free gas in it. I talked to a friend of mine and he said that there is some tiny piece the gets pinched or something near the VST but he can't remember what it is. Any help would be appreciated in fixing this. Great video and easy to undertsand.
I had a similar issue at about 120 hours with mine.. I even had to get towed in.. Thanks BoatUS (they were awesome)!!! My issue ended up being the high pressure fuel filter. This outboard actually has two fuel filters under the cowling. The first is the low pressure one that you see when you first take the cowling off. This one was not plugged on mine. To get to the high pressure one, you have to take the side cover off the right side of the engine. There is a small filter just prior to the fuel injection rail that has a much finer filter element than the other one. Once I changed this filter out, it ran great again. This is supposed to be a 1,000 hour filter, but I change it out religiously once a year now and haven’t had another problem. Hope this helps….
Hi. I have a DF30A as well. This is the most extensive maintenance video I’ve seen. I can tell from your garage you’re a super organized guy. Thanks for sharing. I’m saving this video for future reference. I’ve done minor maintenance, changing the engine oil and filter and gear oil every year in the Fall. I have question about the prop assembly. When inspecting, did you happen to take pictures, or notice the number of washer’s (spacers) that were installed? I’ve taken mine off and it seems like I’m missing something? When I reinstalled the prop, the nut is not aligned with the hole for the lock pin. It’s screws on way pass the hole. I should have taken pictures of the assembly before removing the prop. Any help appreciated. ua-cam.com/users/shortsc72tAwOEpeM?si=knRIh-d1ZURKPXUX
Thanks for the comment... I wasn't sure on the terminology of the parts so I had to look them up.. ha ha.. If you are putting the prop back on, the sequence should be, sliding the stopper on the shaft, then the propeller, then the spacer, the washer next(single washer only), then the nut. The nut should not go way past the hole when everything is assembled. The books lists the tightening torque at 18 foot lbs. I hope this helps.. UA-cam won't let me attach an image to my comment.. If you need a picture send me you email and I will get one to you... Hope this helps...
@@pacificadventure5792 Thank you for responding. I have it assembled in the right sequence but in order for the nut to line up correctly, I have to reverse the spacer which doesn’t seem right. I agree pictures would help. But if you have the parts diagram handy, I have part #24 (spacer) with the narrow end facing the washer. This doesn’t seem right? Is yours is assembled this way?
The service manual shows the narrow end facing the prop, not the washer... I double checked my outboard and I also have it installed with the narrow portion facing the prop, not the washer.. @@jasper60103
@@pacificadventure5792 Thankyou for confirming. That’s a great help. Something is wrong with my setup.
Anytime... I hope you get it figured out..@@jasper60103
Sweet boat rigged really nice! I've got a 16' aluminum deep v bass boat that ran the waters of the Chesapeake Bay for 25 years. My boat is rigged well too without the tower. I think your boat would do a good job here too.
Did it take like 1.5 hr to get to Catalina from LA?
Hey, thanks for this interesting video. It's a shame, that it gets so little attention. I would also like to see more videos from your boat trips.
Thanks for the comment!! I have a ton of video content of fishing, diving and boating... I need to go through it and put some more videos together..
Thank you also
Halllo, as many already said. Great setup!! It looked like you mounted the thrutle box gashandle the other way around it usualy would sit, and like it a lot the way you've done it because its the same as how it would have sit on a side mount. I was just wondering if it was hard to change?
Thanks for the comment!! It was not hard to do. In the installation instructions that come with the outboard it tells you how to do it..
C'est bon travail
Nice ! How big is your gas tank for that round trip?
Gas tank is 6 1/2 gallons... I burned 6 gallons for the round trip. I had some additional fuel in reserve too just incase...
Cheers
Dam I got the same boat with a new Suzuki 30 but don’t have the balls even though I want to.
Ha ha... It was a nice trip... Just pick a good weather window.
Just curious what was your top speed with that 30hp motor?
can I pay you $ to take a ride on you boat or go fishing with on your boat for a day ? Thank you.
Why is your engine hanging so high? It is suppose to sit on the parson
Thank you for your detailed answers. this set up will be affordable.
Beautiful small boat!
Which site to buy suzuki online?
What trailer do you have and did you have to modify anything for it to work with the boat?
The trailer is a CE Smith Multi Sport Plus I bought from etrailer.com. It comes in a box and ships for free... They do go on sale sometimes.. You will need to add a bow roller to the tongue, but other than that it comes with everything that you will need. The only other things that I have added to the trailer are buddy bearings, a swivel jack, and two tie down hooks for the back. Hope this helps..
Have you seen the new Whaly 400? I have a polyethylene boat too. I can't find good videos on Whaly 400 combined with 40hp 4 stroke. It looks real good but I can't understand why there are no reviews of it.
I have seen pictures of the Whaly 400 and it looks like its going to be a great boat.. Im also interested in watching some reviews of it, but haven't seen any yet.
@@pacificadventure5792 found a guy paired the 400 with an electric outboard. Not useful for what I want to see but oh well. Looks like a great boat but I’d like to see a detailed review of it paired with a Mercury 40hp of course.
The Whaly 400 is a new model and there are only a couple on the West Coast. Soon there should be the initial reviews.
@@mountaingem6 Looking forward to them. 435R is a very good boat. I wonder how 400 compares to 435R with a 40 HP Mercury.
@@KaziQTR The same minus 35cm
So finally you made it to Catalina Island. Congratulations!
Thank you!!! You will have to keep me updated on what boat you end up with...
Hi! Greetings from Germany. I like your videos very much. I'm not 100% sure, but could it be that you had a Bombard C4 some years ago? I saw a video on YT that was filmed in the same area. 🙂 If that's true I would be interested about your opinion of C4 vs. Whaly 435R. Thanks a lot!
Hi Lars, Thanks for the comment... Yes!! I also had a Bombard C4 a few years ago.. Im surprised that anyone was able to put that together.. I sold the C4 to buy the 435R. I thought I would have a difficult time selling the C4, but it sold fast... It took about a week. The C4 was a great boat and I never had any problems with it. The build quality was very good, it was easy to put together and it is about 240 lbs lighter than the 435R. If you are limited on storage space and are planning on disassembling the boat to store it, its a good option.. For me, the 435R is a better option. I don't have to worry about hooks, spearguns, or gaffs putting a hole in it, it is a smoother ride through the water, its easier to load on the trailer, its easier to clean after a day on the water, and it has a LOT more storage space. Both boats are the same size, but the 435R feels like a much bigger boat. It also feels safer because you are sitting inside the boat rather than on top of the tubes. My C4 didn't have a console so it made it difficult to mount things like a fish finder, compass, etc.. I really love the console on the 435R. In addition to having a place to mount things, it allows me to stand up and operate the boat. In rough seas, being able to stand up when you're driving lets your legs absorb all the bumps and jolts. I had to always sit when driving the C4 and my back would be sore after a long day in choppy water. Not so with the 435R... I hope some of this info helps... If you have any more questions, please let me know...
@@pacificadventure5792 Thank you very much for your detailed answer. It helps me a lot. Please carry on making such good videos.
Very good info, covered every thing well. Great boat, Easy to keep clean as well
your video is inspiring! I want to get a whaly boat like yours and do what you do. Is it possible if you can make a full video about your scuba diving trip? I would like to learn about your set up. Thank you in advance
I have hours and hours of boat and dive footage, but many of the videos have people in them that don't want to be on youtube... Is there anything in particular that you are looking for?
@@pacificadventure5792 I just ordered whaly 400 and Yamaha 40hp. I’ll get them in June. I might try to install the engine myself. Maybe you can help me out if I get stuck? Haha. Is it possible if you can show me your electronic set up? Like the starter battery and deep cycle battery? Did you connect them both together or have them separated?
@@longkdoan Congrats on the Whaly 400!!! That looks like a really nice boat. Im no expert, but I installed my engine by myself and it wasn't too difficult. Let me know if you have any questions and I will gladly help out.. Do you local in SoCal? The electronics I currently have are a Raymarine Element fish finder, bilge pump, and USB charger. I only use one battery which is a WestMarine dual purpose AGM battery (size is a Group 24). This battery is plenty for all of my needs. I just added the new fish finder and am going to rewire some things. I made a diagram of the wiring I am going to do and will gladly send a copy to you if you want.. Just send me your email address.

How much is a whaly with center console?
I get this question a lot... I haven't looked lately, but I'm sure the prices have gone up since I bought mine.. The best thing to do is go on Whaly USA's website.. They have a price list and do sales sometimes too.. You can also price out outboards online too... That should get you in the ball park...

If you don’t mind me asking what you think about a se200 hydrofoil I have a 435r with a 30HP Mercury 4stroke I’m very undecided could use your advice I’m also in pacific waters in Ventura Ca
I am curious about the hydrofoils myself, but I don't have any experience with them. My biggest hesitation with trying one out is I don't want to drill any permanent holes into the outboard. My little 30 does pretty good, but there are some times like when I have 6 people on board or 3 guys with full scuba gear and 6 scuba tanks when I think a hydrofoil could help me get on plain faster.. I wish I had some hard facts for you that I could tell you how great they are, but I don't.. Try reaching out to avowilor.. He has a youtube channel and I noticed he has a hydrofoil on his Tohatsu 30.. If you get one let me know... I love to know how much one helps....
@@pacificadventure5792 Thank You!
Woah I am planning of buying a WHALY 435, my question is, when you pick up your whaly to the dealer are they all assembled? I mean the steering wheel and wirings.
Mine did not come assembled and that was not an option when I purchased it. It may be an option now tho... Putting it together was a fun project for me. I did it over the course of a weekend and really enjoyed it. Doing it this way, you get to pick and choose each individual component and in the end, you have a much better understanding of how the boat works..
I notice your engine is not fully mounted.
How was the fishing experience with the rod tower in it? Is it hard to fish with it blocking the back side?
I don't find it to be a problem. The Nav Arch actually adds a ton of functionality to the boat. It gives me a place to keep fishing rods out of the way so the rods won't get damaged, you can troll with a rod in the holder, I use it for my navigation lights, I use it to hold my dive flag, its a great speargun rack... The list goes on an on. My last boat didn't have one, Im so glad that this one does.
Whaly fam!
I have a 435. I'll upload content soon. New subbie!!!
Awesome!! I hope that you love the boat as much as I do... Looking forward to seeing some of your videos...
