I needed a song in which all strings are used to set up my newly acquired Schecter Stiletto Stealth-4 bass properly, and this Mastodon's lovely piece (the third track from their "Leviathan" [2004] album.) seemed like the right thing ... the last riff is a total killer 🤘. Hey, may I ask you a question? I play bass, and im trying to break through playing 16th notes in bpm above 130 (song i wanna play range from 130-160). How would you aproach this if you were just starting? Would you stay with 2 finger plucking or try to learn 3 finger technique? When do you think 2 are not enough? Hope u see this, cause not many ppl play so tight and fast with fingers as you, you are truly an inspiration man.

    Hey..great cover! How is the GK Plex preamp pedal? I have the same bass but its the 4 string BEAD version (Pro EX)...i love the GK tone but havent been able to demo the pedal anywhere. What are your settings? Your tone is sick

    • @TomMarello
      @TomMarello 2 місяці тому

      Thanks! I change the settings on the Plex depending on the bass. For this Stiletto, it's amp model 1, bass boost (1 or 2), slight mid scoop (1) and a touch of compressor. However, it's hard to distinguish the Plex itself from the rest because there are 5 other pedals that affect the sound as well

    • @OnThaCode

      @@TomMarello yea i just paid attention to your pedal setup..lol..you have damn near every pedal that im looking at buying. care to do a pedal run-through? you are literally the only bassist i can find that has the tone im looking for. My setup is basic AF right now..i have a 2x8 peavey maxx (i think i fucked up getting 2 8in speakers instead of something that can handle the low B like a 10,12, or 15in cab..just couldnt afford it..this amp cant handle the low end at all it get soooo muddy) amp and the joyo double thruster "overdrive" pedal..its just too much distortion. i dont want to sound like a distorted guitar or sound like Nolly with all the high mids

    • @TomMarello
      @TomMarello 2 місяці тому

      In terms of grit, I prefer stacking them by having one overdrive (first) and a distortion (second), each set at lower gain stages, and tweaking blend and gain pots on both pedals to find the desired sweetspot. Having one od/dist pedal often ends up in an oversaturated and non-articulated sound....to my senses at least

      @TomMarello 5 місяців тому

      Thanks! The neck is awesome, very fast and ergonomic. The body is kinda smallish and light, which cuases some neck-dive and I had to put lightweight tuners onto it because it annoyed me a lot. It's a nice bass for metal but not much versatile for other genres. And string spacing is 18mm which is OK for slap if that's important to you.

    • @ilyagrigoryev26
      @ilyagrigoryev26 5 місяців тому

      @@TomMarello wow, thank you for your detailed answer! I should’ve guessed there might be neck diving considering its parts configuration. I have been wanting an active metal bass for a year and my main is a Yamaha BB435, but it’s absolutely not for heavy music (I got some heaviness with my pedal though, but when it came to playing heavy version of Cranberries’ Zombie it lacked power so much😭, but still BB435 is one of my favourite basses, and I play all other stuff on it)

    Great playthrough! I'm actually looking at that bass right now, as a potential replacement for my squire vintage modified jazz bass that I currently play live. One of the things that's attracting me to it, aside from the tone, is from what Google AI tells me is the weight of the bass. I've got some nerve problems in my neck, making the squire bass a bit painful to play. How does the weight of this bass compare to similar basses, in your opinion?
