TailWheelsRock!
United States
Приєднався 5 чер 2017
Been a pilot for over 20 Years and now having more fun than ever flying a tail-wheel Aviat Husky out of NY, after years of flying a Cirrus SR22 (WHICH I LOVE AS WELL!). I fly all over the Northeast and do many trips to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket , Vermont, Maine Virginia so you will see some truly beautiful country and fun flights. My kids are starting to get the bug and I'm excited to see them develop and learn!
When I’m not flying I am working on tackling the near unbelievable inefficiency in GA Aircraft utilization where the average pilot flies 3.3 hours per month, with their plane sitting on the ground nearly 96% of the time. I started www.sharemyaircraft.com to easily allow a pilot to post and share their plane with another experienced like-mined pilots - Think of it like an Airbnb for pilots. - Check it out and I would love your thoughts and help to get GA growing and costing less for all!

All kinds of fun videos flying around the Northeast!
I am located in Manhattan and fly all over the Northeast and video the flights. Many of these video were simply created to keep a record of my flying as I transitioned from a Cirrus SR22 to a Husky A-1 - essentially going from a powerful nose wheel gear plane, to a powerful tail wheel plane! The two planes compliment each other extremely well and each have their own mission. I am no videographer, but have enjoyed learning imovie, and now Final Cut Pro as I make the videos better and better.
Please feel free to comment and provide feed back and I do appreciate you visiting my channel! -- and of course subscribing!
Also check out my current aviation project called www.sharemyaircraft.com! Sharemyaircraft.com is working to solve the unbelievable inefficiency in general aviation aircraft utilization whereby the average pilot flies 3.3 hours/month with their plane sitting on the ground 96% of the time. There are very few pilots/planes that would not benefit by being SHARED in the meantime. !

Thank you so much for this! I'm planning to get this soon.
Very good, you said the right word conventional gear lol yes it’s mostly tail draggers and we came for an event called the Wentworth airdrome something or another or WAD. So it was understood we were all meeting there. I would just go meet the owner. I can get you his name if you want you can send me an email at raj@willowcreekct.com.
How was it getting permission to land at nh96? My brother owns property literally right across the Baker…so naturally, we’re interested in what flying into this place is like. I know they tend to specialize in conventional gear airplanes over there
Is there a way you can load an approach into the 660?
I needed to change the tire on the Scott 3200 tail wheel on my Citabria and found your video on this topic. It is what I was looking and helped me somewhat. However, maybe some editing to remove non-relevant scenes is called for. Also, should you get to film this again, please include the hub assembly process, which is not shown. The torque setting on the 4 bolts holding the hub together is 120 in-lbs.
i flew my Piper Cherokee 180 from Allentown PA to Katama in the early 70's. Hitch hiked in a Ford Falcon, had to sit next to a gorgeous girl.
Do you know why the map is sometimes purple?
Nice 😇😇😇
Really cool review!! 😊
Yes - when you live in NYC every thing else is backcountry lol!
Backcountry ?
I couldn’t tell you about that product. But it connects automatically in my plane to the GDL 39.
I just got the 660 installed in my Piper arrow but it doesn't connect automatically to my flighstream 210. I have go into the tools/bluetooth menu and click "connect" everytime I powerup my airplane. Isn't autoconnect working?
She should look into the reliefband device no worries about ear sickness, or any kind of not sure at that point
Thanks fior the important video. Good to point out you have to have a bit of extra speed for the roundout/flare. PS I used to fly out of Candlelight Farms years ago with Nutmeg Soaring.
As soon as the music kicks in you can't hear wind noise or engine throttle changes, which I assume was the purpose of this video.
Can I ask what mount you have for your 660 in this video?
Wow, this brought back so many memories. My wife and I lived in London for several years. We miss it terribly. We were right around the corner from the Natural History Museum and would walk Hyde Park daily. I hope you went to Borough Market. I used to fly out of Elstree and White Waltham. Thank you for the great content.
We’re going back in April, can’t wait to see borough market and have a scotch egg and sausage in a roll!
It would be nice if you also show us the building and sourrounding of the airport, not just the landing and parkings.
Are you happy with the product overall? And why did you choose this over the 760?
Because the 760 was not around when I bought this. I would definitely get the 760 as a friend of mine has it. It’s beautiful large and has additional features. Don’t ask me what they are right now. I think it has to do with ifr charting.
Yes still love it!
Three suggestions; first, I would have made sure the bead was broke (unseated) before removing the wheel half bolts. Second; I like to use tire talc. Talc meant for personal use is mostly corn starch. You can get tire talc from Aircraft Spruce or an automotive parts supply store. (It's fun seeing the look on the clerks face when you ask for it. The youngsters have no idea what your talking about. Then the manager says he has to order it. But it'll be in the next day) Third; please get a tripod for the camera. I was getting woosey.
Thanks for posting this
First time seeing this on UA-cam - Fun seeing it from the cockpit view - I literally walk around this every day (sometimes when it snows or when the temperature is below freezing I miss that day bcoz black ice ) there is a great bike path along the perimeter of the airfield that leads from South Beach across the Island to the Sound on the northern shore and continues on to Oak Bluffs - a great biking, walking, running area - kinda the first (or ‘last’) bike path in America - right on ‘the Edge’ - Oh and nice landing AND that old metal hangar with the wind sock at the end is no more… it’s gone.
Awesome, going to try to go there tomorrow from Saratoga N.Y. about 1.5 hr trip in a c-172.
Great Video you two...
MARK! -- I did not know this was you!
Thanks for the video. I came in with the Cessna mass arrival just ahead of the storm on Saturday. Where was that hotel you stayed at?
Hi Roger, that’s the Hilton which is at the end of runway 27. It’s great if you get there the first few days otherwise the rates go up dramatically it’s pretty crazy but we do this every year but it’s a little tricky getting a reservation happy to help you if you need
Had to miss this year..thanks for the memories!
It’s my favorite vacation of the year. When we land back home I start planning next year! I just ordered a pod for the Husky so I could bring more stuff! Lol hope to see you next year we will certainly be within the first 4-5 rows as we get in early.
I retired at fly by the last Sunday in 2018. Working osh has been the high lite of my atc career. I’m 3 years into a rv14 build now. She might make it next year…but 2024 for sure!
@@danruehl6231 I love it, I seriously would love to build an RV as long as I have some one I can pull the rip cord to and they will come in and finish it! LOL
Hey guys, you popped up on my suggested video list. Great video. Hope to catch up with you folks again next year and thanks for the Cirrus Event invite, had a blast! Clear skies and tailwinds!
It was great meeting you! Keep in touch send me an email at Raj @Sharemyaircraft.com
6 hours on airplane... I was riding Oshkosh on motorcycle from Norwalk, CT... 20 hours ))) and 17 hours back through toll-roads.
Got to get your pilots license. :)
Great video! How’s the autopilot treating you? Was that nice landing in OSH an autoland? 😂
Haha. Yes the GFC500 rocks. No this landing was all me. :) but the autopilot is a game changer!
Generally what speed on shot final? What's your technique now?
64 over the numbers. Trim back and Tailwheel low then pull tail wheel to the ground. In any wind condition. Love it.
I just bought the GDL 50. Are you using the GDL 39 here? I can’t get weather on the ground like you are. I’ll be flying with it today for the first time. I was told I need to be about 500’ above the ground before it works with weather but you have it. Any info you can share about this? Thx do much
I use the GDL39 -- works well - on the ground it is using the internet - make sure your unit is connected and make sure you go to menu and tell it to choose AUTO when it comes to weather - meaning internet or FISB
@@TailWheelsRock thx so much!
Great video. Does this receive ADS-B directly for traffic or does it need to be fed from something like a Sky Echo2 etc?
Needs to be fed -- I use the GDL 39 --
pairing a 660 up with a gtr-200 and a gdl in my 12 this next week! pretty excited for the upgrade
Working on my PPL this spring.. Hope to make this flight in the summer of 2022.
I’ll be honest, I still prefer your cockpit. I do like glass cockpits., but when it comes to the Husky I prefer the standard gauges.
The music….killing me
YES -- I will do a new one - sorry about that!
NERDS!!!!
What is the small locking doodad in your hands at 3:44?
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006Y3IDEM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
IT LOCKS THE HUSKY's WINDOW -- very good -
@@TailWheelsRock I thought so. No way to lock old 55MA. Reminds me of the latch that protects the high priced scotch at Total Wine. 🤣
You are doing airliner size patterns?
YES -- when I started
The most crosswind I have landed my Husky in was 25 gusting to 35kts...(it took me six tries)! A really good skill to have, since sometimes one cannot go to another airfield. I could have landed at a crossing taxiway that day also, I suppose.
Flew Husky 55MA from HHR in So. Cal. to KOSH in '16 and '19 and will go again in '22. I'll look for you there.
We will be there. We usually fly in by Friday and party Friday night Saturday night and Sunday and then camp for a few days. Our mo is To stay at the Hilton Friday and Saturday nights which is generally an expensive and available, so as to relax after a long day of flying. And then enjoy camping for the week. What is your name I look forward to meeting you!
I have 1600 landings in Husky N55MA, 5 of which I would show a video. Not the easiest to land. BTW my 2005 was purchased at McCreery Aviation in McAllen TX, hence the MA registration. I suspect your 2007 may have originated there as well.
It did! I bought it in 2016 from Jim Taylor at McCreery aviation. It had 100 hours on it when I bought it has mint condition as you possibly could get, and the seller paid for all these additional things to be done like the 2200 pound gross weight upgrade change the Lord mounds change the fuel site tubes so many things. Jim Taylor of course recommended that and if I were ever to sell it which is doubtful he would be the man to use! Yes believe me for 40 hours I had a pit in my stomach every time I was on short final. You read so many stories about ground loops and tail dragger‘s but I found a husky to be very benign. I also believe that the 26 inch Goodyear tires weighing 44 pounds each help keep the plane a lot more stable! Thanks for watching
Great video! Awesome autopilot.
Panel porn.
Husky 55MA from So. Cal. to KOSH in '16 and '19. We'll be there in '22. Great memories via your videos.
Previous SR22 owner now interested in a husky. Please compare the two as far as flight characteristics and difficulty. Obviously cirrus is faster , more for distance and getting used to a tail dragger will take some time. Thanks Doug
Happy to speak to you directly about that. Feel free to text me your email and we can talk either way 646-320-1817
Nice panel. I have the sister husky, one serial number younger.
