so nice
@@drdexter33 thanks Doug
Great video! I think maybe using a software to make chord diagrams and printing them out would make it a little more clear and easy to read
Cheers, thanks for the feedback, i might try this at some point
I've played and composed by ear for more than 15 years and took my first theory lesson a few days ago. Jeez there's a lot to understand. This kind of video helps! Cheers
Im glad this was of use Georges, I have a similar background myself. There is indeed a lot to understand, too much for one lifetime lol. I would say my attitude is just to gradually give names to the sounds I'm familiar with for organisational purposes, with the whole goal being to make things as simple as possible. Cheers
@@RayGarnerGSU Seems like a pragmatic approach! I've heard you mentionning a chess puzzle in the video, i am a passionate chess player since 8 years and it's pretty much the same : it's so complicated that you need to progressively recognize patterns, name them, classify them, practice them untill they become a second nature. Trusting the process!
@@georgesenmusique ah nice. Ive tried chess myself but found it much too frustrating :)
This is so helpful, thank you! I hope you decide to make more :)
Cheers Matthew, im very glad you found this useful :)
@@RayGarnerGSU of course, if you ever sell an online course or patreon lesson series I'd buy in a heartbeat.
@@matthewserino6786 thanks very much Matthew
Hello, nice. Very Hendrixy and SRV liked it
Cheers :)
Nice! What gauge strings do you have on the tele?
11-48 ernie ball power slinky, tuned Eb standard in this video. cheers
Ray could you make a video discussing and demonstrating how to create lines in a blues where you set up going from the I chord to the IV chord; the IV chord back to I Chord as well as maybe the I chord going to the VI chord? In a way that sets up the change naturally?
Hi Jamie, thanks for the suggestion. I'd like to help so i may make a video along these lines at some point. In the meantime I would suggest just listening to the classics (BB King, Hendrix, SRV etc) a massive amount until its in your blood. This is how I learned it but I wasnt listening to learn, I was just listening cus I loved the sound so much (and still do). I must admit when I learned what I know about blues soloing I wasnt even aware chords could have numbers or anything like that lol so I would probably try not to think about that stuff at all and just focus on feel. Keep it really simple, if youre consciously thinking about the chord changes in a blues youre probably overthinking it. Cheers
Don’t underestimate that advice, it’s like learning a language. The scales are words and your improv creates the sentences. The best way to learn a language is to listen to its native speakers
Yesss .... What we've been talking about for ages.
I hope this is useful :)
@RayGarnerGSU Yes of course mate.
my left hand actually, not my right
hey ray.been typing to much and I cant use my right hand for some runs on the guitar. hope the numbness goes away. Frustrating.
@@Barbara-e2u hi Barbara, im sorry to hear that, best wishes to you
Massages, heat an ice and stretching. Good luck! I’m struggling with forearm pain. Limits practice time. Paying the price for not stretching etc and questionable posture.
@@demejiuk5660 I think the feelin's startin to come back a bit-a way to go yet though
Sweet
@@malcolmbags3594 Cheers Malcolm
Very helpful cheers
I have needed this sort of discussion and couldn't find it so thank you
Cheers, I'm glad you find it useful :)
Beautiful work!
Thank you
Hey I’m a complete beginner and wanna be able to play cool riffs solos and songs one day, do you have any tips or advice to get better, I can’t been get chords to sound right let alone switch them to another one. Subbed btw
Be patient and dont give up :) See if you can link up with some local musicians and also make sure your instrument is setup right (important). Focus on playing actual music rather than studies and schoolish stuff for the most part, focus on sounds that excite you and avoid monotony. Its kind of different for everyone so just try loads of stuff and see what sticks. Best of luck, cheers
Beautiful Ray Lenny Breau would love it Just as I do Wonderful as always Nana x❤
Thanks
You're very welcome
Stunning! Is there a vibrato pedal at play here or is that from your hands? Love it
@@samhealy5484 thanks Sam. Im plugged straight into the amp here with a touch of tremolo on the amp. Im pulling on the neck to get the vibrato on the chords

Why don’t these people get in some decent practice before they commit something like this to UA-cam! Only joking of course…… excellent stuff!
