Exploring the FTR from South to North on a solo adventure. Until now, I had not seen all of the trunk road. Now I can say I have driven all of it start to finish, epic camping, some time for reflection and a few unfortunate low points make this a memorable adventure as I experience being a full time content creator for a short time.

Hello guys, this is Raffi n Patrick from Edmonton, we met you guys few weeks ago (labor Day weekend) @ the Shell in Edson AB, you were heading to Jeep Jamboree... Just wanted to send our regards and keep up the great work.. Beautiful to see you and wife always together 🙏🇨🇦🇨🇱
Yes, I remember! It was great to meet you 👍
I recognized many of the places you visited in the video. I believe the border crossing closed in 1996 after the main road washed out during high water. I'm not sure that that was the only reason for the closure but it did contribute to the decision. Thanks for sharing.
That stands to reason since the road is still washed out, thanks for the info 👍
I am so confused. How is overlanding different than car camping? I do similar trips in a 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger.
Tomato, tomato 😊 Overlanding is usually more focused on the journey than the destination but we are splitting hairs here. Way I figure, if you're out and enjoying... you're doing it right👍
@@VoyagerOverland Excellent way to see it. Thank you
Their just looking for excuses to shut all the back country down and the idiots that are out there are giving them fuel for the fire respect Brother
Vote for this man for Prime Minister 2024 make Canada Great Again imagine all the ideas out there with common sense to make solutions for these problems Awesome my friend Hats off to you
I said to the wife, "Many people travel to Banff and Jasper for the mountains, but us folks in BC... almost every corner, no matter the road or trail, we get thise stunning views." We will have to spend next season heading East (from our home). Another great adventure you guys!
Jasper and Banff are awesome, but... the backcountry is were it's at, so much to explore!
would a been great to know the name of those Rec-Sites, in order to see / follow your journey on a map 😂
The hunt is the best part of the adventure!
would love to check out that border crossing
It was nice to visit👍
Do not cross the border in BC any where , they are all a holes
This is a wicked awesome idea.
@@GreatOutdoorAdventure What can I say, once in a while the wires touch and the light turns on 🤷♂️
Great idea. Love it!
That is something I am proud of Canadians for, is cleaning the garbage they find. Even on my walks I carry a bag for picking up litter. The public land pass pays for so much upkeep and the officers needed to catch the bad ones. I gladly pay the little amount they ask for a year of camping. Great video on this subject, good job.
Thank you, and keep up the good work!
Great idea!
Wow loved the idea! We camp most of the time in crown land too. But I hate it if I see lots of garbages like cans/bottles. Best regards
A little effort goes a long way 👍
Just cleaned up way too much garbage out in kakwa falls! Great idea
Kakwa is so remote, you would think that people would take better care.
So of the places i bin at if we did not clean it will come to be a no camping site. Waiparous Creek
@@KM-je5xt Protect what we have right👍
I like the idea! Kudos for coming up with ideas to help clean our backcountry. Thanks!!
@@wanderingtrailrider Every little bit makes a difference 🤷♂️
You said, "You have no phones and hard to look at the App." Which app are you using? Depending on which one, It should still work as long as you don't shut it down. Just put it to sleep (minimize it). Also the "downloading the maps for offline use."... cool video though. Great area. I'm showing my wife this video, and the "Rail Trail" we are now going to have to do that next year. "So much history, I'm loving this." No doubt you are, that looks amazing
The smoke forecasts changed so quick this summer, information would go out of date overnight, there was no smoke in the forecast for that day but there was a new fire just west of us the day before. You would like the C&W rail trial 👍 Thank you for your comment!
Great video! I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing. Sub & 👍61
Thank you for subscribing, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 👍
I did a bikepacking trip down the Columbia & Western rail trail last summer. Had no idea you could drive it! Was really cool to see the Bulldog tunnel & the trestle bridges again! Excellent video.
My son and I bikepacked it from Castlegar to Penticton a few years back, 400km and 6 days on the rail trail, absolutely loved it!
Always love watching your channel and always happy when you post a video 😊 Thank you!
Thank you for that, I appreciate your comment 👍
That looks like an awesome trail. I would like to do that someday
You should, great place to visit and connect with the past 👍
Oh wow. We love all your guy's videos.. this was awesome.
Thank you for that, I appreciate your comment!
This doesn’t really seem like a ‘secret spot’, will you tell us where it is?
The hunt is the best part of the adventure 😎
@@VoyagerOverland Fair enough.
I love that you each have your own ride. saves fighting over who gets to drive…:)
I find myself a lot more cautious when travelling solo, with two Jeeps, we go anywhere we please knowing we always have back up👍
Thanks for sharing the beautiful trail. Its definitely on my list.
This was the third time I go there and I find something new every time, well worth the trip 👍
Beautiful. Is that bc recs spot you were at accessible by a Class C? Care to share which one it was? I have a google map of places I want to go...hopefully someday...
We ended up using the Rec Site section of the Backroads Map Books, it gives locations and access descriptions. For example, it tells you if a site big enough for motorhomes of it is 4X4 access. That information is available on the BC website as well.
excellent channel. thanks for the adventures 👍
Thank you for that and I appreciate your comment!
I miss the summer adventures already😊
Tell me about it, Jean and I have now canceled two weekend trips in a row, first I was sick and now she is. Next weekend, we go!!
Is there any costs for these BC rec sites like crown camping pass in Alberta? Every video you two put out the views are amazing, thanks for sharing.
Some have fees but most do not, especially the more remote ones 👍
What lengths do you make these extensions and are those 2 and 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch square tubes
24" as shown by the tape measure in the video, measure the inside diameter of the legs for your particular application👌
I went to harbor freight and bought the 1ton shop crane to do exactly this. Your idea compared to other videos I've seen is the cheapest, safest and effective way to mount and remove my RTT. I don't keep my RTT on my truck full time. But when I want to install it, seems like no one wants to help me so this is the best method of doing it safely for one person. I would change a few things though about it. 1. The hook point, I would rather have to be 2 chain links then the hook with a bolt going through the frame. 2. Add threaded rods at the rear of the hoist near the casters to basically have a spot to put weights on as counterweight only if needed. I rather have about 100 lbs of counterweight to be damn sure that the hoist has enough weight on the back even if its only 110 lbs of RTT I'm lifting. I have a Toyota Tacoma so I might have to tweak the design a bit anyways.
That's the beauty of DIY, you build to suit your needs 👍
Congrats once again on the win. Good times😊
Looking forward to the next one👍
What’s the weather like mid sept?
Hot, cold, sunny, rain, snow, hail, who knows, anything is possible in Alberta.
way to many people out there it is ruined
At the AOAE? No, not crowded at all, that's what we liked about it.
Man, I wish I would’ve went a lot of UA-camrs there I would’ve liked to met Especially you two
That is very flattering, thank you. Maybe next time 👍
long weekend you venture out to avoid crowds. I stay home 😂. nice event though, really nice people to hang out with. cheers
Not a typical weekend outing for us but we really enjoyed ourselves.
great event, we're already looking forward to next year. would also just like to say, classy move donating that RTT back to GTFO. you are great ambassadors of the community. thank you.
Thanks for that, some times I do come up with some good ideas 🤷♂
Really cool event!
It was, you should go next year 😉
Thanks for sharing ! We were in BC last week as well. Manning Park, Coquihalla area Rec sites after the long weekend. Very Quiet
I'm liking BC Rec Sites more and more. Especially those that are listed as 4X4 access 👍

@@jennifermorphy7361 Unfortunately they are discontinued by GSI Outdoors but they still have similar products
How heavy is your new tent and how high is it to the top where you’re lifting? I watched your previous video and this one about your system and I like the idea. I’ll be installing a 272 lb (huge) RTT on a Ram 2500 and I think I’ll have to install/remove from the rear due to the tires being in the way. I’ll need something that reaches about 3 feet inward from the back of my truck at a height of 87 inches to the top of the tent. I’ve thought about having a hitch mounted crane with a swivel built as well. Just not sure what the best way to go is yet.
250 lbs, 10ft high with a 6ft reach 👍
