thanks for sharing your van-life stories. This one was about how to deal with the heat. In most parts of the country it is quite a challenge. As a motorhome dweller for years, my strategy for beating the heat is to seek high elevation. Luckily I am familiar with AZ and NM, where you can easily find camping at 7000 + feet. I am in northern AZ where I see highs of 80-88 for a few weeks with overnight lows in the 50s. The arid climate is a huge plus as well. I'm sure CO has similar opportunities. In this dry climate, a portable evaporative cooler set in the doorway would work wonders. The southwest is truly a nomads' paradise for the reasons given, PLUS there is so much public land (compared to the East) and much of the time your camp fees are zero. Lots of high elevation.

What part of the country are you in? I am in Houston, Texas and about to be homeless. It's insanely hot here. I don't think me and my little Shih Tzu will survive in this heat.

When a storm comes through I put on my airpods with noise cancelling turned on and it really cuts out the loud booms of the thunder. My poor cat hears it all, though. Sophie might like a ThunderShirt, which is used to calm anxious dogs who react to loud noises. They have a website.

If you enable the voice command feature, you can say "Lock the Video" and it will save the recording. It includes 15 seconds of video footage prior to the point you said the command. I turn Off the G-force sensor because even on the highest (least sensitive) setting, it still captures and saves clips to events if I go over a bump or pot hole 🕳️.

I don't care about all that hocus pocus, but I've been wanting to head for Salem for a family reunion at the Pickering House. My maternal gggggreat grandfather John Pickering built the oldest standing house in Salem, 1660. They give tours there too. How neat you were able to stealth camp there?
