Something I'd say that lends credibility to Jacket's line of events being canon (ignoring the second game as you established) is the sheer amount of drugs you see in Biker's apartment right before his fight with Jacket and the fact that Jacket goes down so easy. I posit that Jacket won the fight but didn't kill Biker (leading to him getting the hit put out on him by 50 Blessings) only imaging he did so in his coma dream, Biker lost the fight but went on to the rest of the levels with a splitting headache. Needing to nurse his bruised ego he makes up the story in his head on how he beat some chump in a Chicken mask.

I feel like the up or down thing can also be compared to religion, especially from an American perspective where Christianity and atheism or areligiousness are the most common perspectives people have (from my observation as an American and ex-Christian). In that scenario you could compare the big fish in the can rings to, say, a pentecostal church pastor and the tongue parasite could be akin to a televangelist. Regardless of religion, no one truly knows what religion is right or what will happen after death. All we have are our convictions.

I like death stranding as well lol. Don't know many people who do, it's a good game but the core concepts of basically traveling around delivering things and building things to help yourself and others isn't the most exciting idea and i understand why it's not liked by more people. Plus like most Kojima games it has a lot of random features and depth to features that few people use or even know exist in the game.

1:09:05 I don't think him taking "responsibility" meant taking care of Anya and the unborn child. I think he's trying to kill the evidence of a crime he did. He is a rapist whether he takes care of Anya or not. It's not because he's a father now. He is a rapist now and he will be persecuted when they get back to Earth. That's the reality he built for himself. That's what he is afraid of. If he truly cared being a father (which he never really did), he would've tried saving Anya from off-ing herself and saving his unborn baby.

I don’t know what it is about this game but it’s embedded in my mind deeply. I just keep watching video essay after video essay idk why. I find comfort in the story? Couldn’t tell you why, I’ve drawn like a bunch of fanart too. It told in effective story with it’s run, but I want more.

Totally relate to Swansea breaking his sobriety in that situation. At my lowest I was drinking mouthwash. I don’t recommend. I got clean but it took years for my liver to heal and who knows what the future has in store.

This is a really good video, but you can tell it was written by a man. Jimmy isn't wrong for not taking responsibility for the baby, but fir the rape. He should jot have "stepped up as a dad" because Anya would not have wanted the man who raped and terrorised her as a partner and father to her child. I don't think she killied herself because of the child- i think in the face of the horror of carrying a part of the man who took away her bodily autonomy, who was now continuing to control her, who was now loose to do more damage, she saw killing herself as a better option than being left to his mercy. Curly was also complicit in her abuse- he should have licked Jimmy away, for Anya to feel safe, but he didn't because he decided his friend was more important than his crew member's physical and mental safety. Both the people who had power over her abused that power, both directly and indirectly, and i can literally imagine nothing worse than being trapped in a ship, millions of miles away from earth, with a man who'd abused me and a man who should have taken a stand to protect me, but didn't. It's really sad to see Anya reduced to "a mother who killed herself because she couldn't care for her baby", rather than a woman who'd held out by herself, in one of the worst situations imaginable, who took a final stand to keep what bodily autonamy she had left.

Fantastic explanation- except the assumption that Jimmy is scared of taking responsibility for his actions towards Anya by becoming a "father" and "caretaker". He is not scared of becoming a father, he is scared of the physical proof of his crimes. (Compare it to the depiction of fearing fatherhood in Catherine). He could easily escape fatherhood, as Anya would have no interest in raising a child with him?!? He can't escape a legal charge and prison, which would further his downward spiral in life.

An interesting point to raise. You constantly bring up “in today’s world” when referring to how people work. In making decisions, dealing with choices, behaviour ect. I’d like you to realise (at least from my perspective) humans have always been this way. There is nothing unique in today’s politics or humanity. We have always by majority been indecisive, blindly followed those that are confident or seem to present intelligence ect. Scientifically, the human brain today is the same as it was 50k years ago.

Man I just discovered your channel and love your videos. The funger and mouthwashing ones in particular. Your analysis is top notch and this type of horror indie game analysis is what I’m really looking for on yt Side note; I think in the end the point a point you missed out on (although you covered many) was all the fish made such a big hub-ub about the choice, when in the end TO THEM it never mattered. Both lead to the meat grinder and the same painful death. Excestentially this is the same with humans. No matter what you achieve or what you do in life, it will end the same, in the ground.

This is not my cup of tea, to be frank. And that's not just cause I don't really enjoy horror as a genre, but more so because I don't like the execution of it. Even noir games like Cyberpunk 2077 have this light at the end of it all. V does have a chance at getting the chip out, and at living their life. Warhammer 40k is much the same. Untold TRILLIONS have died. And yet, the whole point of grim dark is 'Shit's gonna get *really* fuckin' hairy for a bit, but eventually you'll pull clear.' and that's why Humanity, and the Eldar, are still in the game, digging their heels in and screaming at the universe. Hope. This? This has no hope. There *is* no point for Curly to live on.

I am really glad to see such a good analisys of this particular game. tho I'd appreciate a lot if you pinned the most full breakdown of mistakes, so people would see your point much clearer about Anya. Also it's kint of ironic how we see cartoon about the CAKE before Jimbo forcing Curlie's leg in him. Since he WAS a cake in Jimbo's episodes. Sweet, but not as good as it looks like. Just like the position of the captain, like Curly himself, like the situation on the ship as Curly saw it. Idk if the cake was also a metaphor, but I am always drawn to this image. Cakes are awfully important for some reason.

I think the “double action hinges” are a commentary on the player themselves. All the fish only get once choice- up or down- and that’s it. They only pick once. The player meanwhile can come back again and again, choose whatever options they want, see every ending- every possibility. That’s strikingly unfair, and I think that’s why the eye-pods chastise you for it

In America, our bread is pre-sliced or at least in the packed type, be it wheat bread, white bread, Ive only eaten these before. Depending on the type of bread, it won't be sliced at all in the package. Banana bread? I'm sure it's not sliced and it's just treated like we're eating a slice of cake, same with any bread that isn't being used for a sandwich. The hotdogs buns in the grocery stores are sometimes pre-sliced, other times the hotdog buns need to be sliced by ourselves(I have a strong dislike for the hotdogs buns when they aren't pre-sliced). And of course 90% of everything we come across is gluten free now. I can't say I know much about bread beyond that cuz Ive only seen banana bread being served as a loaf instead of slices. As for the chemicals in our food, my anxiety about bacteria and diseases in our food often encourage me to fry or boil the hell out of any raw meat I'm preparing.

As a forensic scientist involved in crime scene analysis, I think that were the ship to be found as-is at the end, a decent and impartial team could analyse the scene and see many obvious signs that Jimmy is the one responsible, not Curly. On the surface you could say from the outside the might think he was disgruntled, try to do take them all out, failed, then hunted them down and finished them before stumbling into cryo. There’s so much evidence that’s wrong, from the fact that Curly is way too injured to go on a rampage, and the fact the one person to die by their own hand is Jimmy, (abs he died last) which is suggestive of guilt. Curly never could have carried his dead co-worker to the table, and likely couldn’t have severed his thigh. He was too ill to do anything but lie there and moan in pain and possibly a desire to be taken out. I think a proper investigation would have shown the truth pretty quickly. I’m not touching on every reason, just some major suspicious discrepancies.

1:31:30 This isn't even just your personal canon, this is ACTUALLY canon! The Crow Mauler's story makes it EXPLICITLY CLEAR/canon that the creatures in the dungeon were at some point normal Earth life including humans that were slowly corrupted over time by the dungeon's influence. 🤷

I completely agree with your ending canon (ESPECIALLY Le'garde still sitting on the Golden Throne after becoming Le'ghoul) except for who hired Cahara to break out Le'garde. 🤷 I'm quite confident that it was Le'garde himself who sent out that mercenary request, only just pretending that it came from Rondon officials. He deliberately let himself get captured by Rondon to get himself AND the Cube into the dungeon and then hired someone else to free him from his cell so he could actually achieve his goal. Of course his plan didn't actually work, but that's what why you have a hopelessly brainwashed woman (D'arce) as a back up plan lol. 🤷

Why put sugar in mouthwash? To make something foul tasting more palatable. “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” Like putting a day/night cycle screen in the cramped common room of a space ship. Or a cheerful Pony mascot as the face of a corrupt corporation. Maybe a half-remembered old propaganda cartoon about how when companies do well, they will treat their employees well. Or the belief that those in charge will keep you safe. Or some promise of fulfillment, power and happiness if you work hard enough. Or if you keep the peace, look the other way, and try to be everyone’s friend, you can make one big happy family. Or that one “good deed” can wash away all the bad ones. If you keep washing the bad taste out of your mouth with sugar, you’re only feeding the rot until it can no longer be hidden. And it’s too late to save what is left.
