Hi, I'm Cody and I'm not actually pretty.
Did I sleep on a classic Dungeon Crawler? | A Xanadu Next Review
I went into this game with expectations through the floor and walked away pleasantly surprised. Xanadu Next deserves better than it got. Sure it has problems. We all do. I buy too many doodads. But I'm trying my best. However, when I dug into this simple and to the point dungeon crawler, I was shocked to find out not only does excel at what it does best... it left a lasting impression.

Astlibra Revision Review | The game that took one person 15 years to make
Переглядів 6 тис.5 місяців тому
Sure it looks ugly at a glance... but there's something special under all those stock jpegs. If you spend 15 years making your game, are you making the choice to be old school or accidentally stumbling into it? Either way, Astlibra provides a classic action RPG fare that you don't see a lot any more... but is it fun? Spoiler: Yes. It is. Games in the intro: Zanki Zero: Last Beginning Eternal Ri...
An unnecessarily exhaustive look at Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology

Somehow released at the wrong time every time, Radiant Historia still has endured. Finding 10 (ish) Indie RPGs and Reviewing Them

Like a hog seeks truffles, I seek weirdo indie games in my spare time and it's time to finally lead you to the delightful, delicious treats I've found.. only for you to pull me away so that you can sell the truffles. This metaphor fell apart quickly, but I *am* a lot like a hog. No one can take this 1963 Ohio county fair "fine hog" blue ribbon I won. No one. 0:00 - Intro 2:45 - Vagante 9:53 - A...
Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise Review | Is the meme game actually fun tho?

WARNING: Spoilers for Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin all over this video Hey.... you teach a man to fish, he'll go fishing... teach a man to kill chaos and uh... I *need* to kill chaos. This metaphor got away from me. I played Stranger of Paradise expecting a 'so-bad-it's-good' style game... what I ended up with was something... really interesting. Something altogether cool. Squaresoft made a dating game? | 16-bit Japan-only Squaresoft games

I miss so many fun games here in the United States, but that's okay! because fan translators are out there being amazing. Inspired by a social media photo of a game I'd never seen before I set out on a quest to play something new. I did some light reviews and it was a lovely change of pace, but if you crave big RPG reviews like I do, fear not - that one is already getting footage captured. Do y...
I am Setsuna Review | Can it compare to the classics?
Переглядів 23 тис.Рік тому
Forewarning that I spoil the plot pretty hard so check the chapter markers if you're skimming around. In between gearing up for my next video I managed to beat this game and it got me thinking a lot about nostalgia and it's value in gaming and when maybe it works a little less... which made my next video delayed but hey! A surprise video with a surprise length. Some day I'll keep the script sho...
Star Ocean First Departure R Retrospective | A big ol' sci-fantasy sandwich

I bet if I was making videos in 2019 this would have been a fun, timely review, but I wasn't so we're doing it today for some reason. Does this port of a 16 year old PSP game hold up? Does tri-Ace nail the landing? Only one way to find out! I know this is a long one. I tried to break this into chapters since I imagine this won't be a single sitting sort of affair. Chapters: 00:00 - Intro 1:52 -...
How the hell do you get this game to load the save
For some reason the speech boxes and weapon leveling system reminds me of Dark Cloud, another simple but enjoyable dungeon crawler. I'm glad gems like this are being preserved on steam.
This game is pretty amazing but the number one major flaw that keeps it from being an all time classic is that damn key system.
I got a stupid big collection of gunpla, particularly Pg gunplas.
Wonderful game. Only the last dungeon becomes too grindy and tiresome
Just discovered your channel and I absolutely love your voice, delivery and writing. Big fan of the, like, cozy vibes.
This game is one of my favorite of all time. I will say though I think the bad jokes and adult jokes falling flat is on purpose as a play at typical japanese tropes. Your character reacts the same way as you do pretty much. they don't care about them, they don't find them funny, and their lack of reaction kind of makes it awkward for those making the jokes too. Even in the thick of tropes your character doesn't really care about them, which is pretty refreshing to be honest. Even the raunchy chapter has a reason for existing that isn't there to be fan service, but something more sinister all along instead. It feels like those jokes are set up just to tear down and make fun of.
I recently saw an unopened ps1 copy at a retro/used game store for 280$ canadian.
good paid advertisement here
I cant stop thinking of that ridiculous movie 😂
Xanadu Next is such a great game.I bought the CD version around 2007 when I was in middle school. And I played it again and again for every 3~5 years lol.I also got a steam copy btw.
That's awesome. One of the most unexpected parts of making this video was finding out a bunch of people had such a close connection with Xanadu Next.
Awesome video. I'm doing some research before tackling a playthrough video essay. I like your format. Great work.
I love Ys.. and my god I have slept on Xanadu aswell it seems!
If you like Ys, you're probably going to enjoy this one if I were to guess.
Well considering that many non 3A games today looks like they are from SNES area, Xanadu might fare better today. Just give it some spit and shine :)
Highly underrated game. I played it last year and had a blast with it. Wish more games like it would get made.
whats the game at 00:31?
Brandish on PSP
this is one of those games that has been siting in my library forever. i think its time i play it. I've been neding a game like this. for a while now.
Never played this, but now I want to. I have only played Tokyo Xanadu previously, which was ok (gameplay was fun. Story-wise, really tired of playing highschoolers and the shonen narrative trappings that come with it).
Faxanadu is another great game
Adding Metroidvania progression items to action rpgs is actually a pretty neat idea. Adds depth to a genre that tends to be sorely lacking.
I very much enjoyed this game; it knows exactly what it is. It does not overstay its welcome and they definitely stuck the landing.
Wild to think there's an N-Gage versiom of this game that not only came out first, it's an NA exclusive.
I had this Nintendo game back in the day called Faxanadu. I loved it!! Someone told me it was in the Ultima universe
You left out Faxanadu, which was the NES successor to Xanadu
Looks like dungeon siege or dungeon maker on the psp
59 minutes is too much, but having finished it fairly recently (yes even the endgame void dungeon), I want to say this: Use a cheat engine and add tons of keys. The game is still balanced gold-wise. Because grinding or "cool room which opens up the game next area? too bad, go to city and buy keys and come here again" backtracking takes this game from 9/10 to 2/10. Its atmosphere is excellent, as I would unironically claim its a mix of dark souls 1 and diablo 1. As for its combat, its the best of its shitty genre. I didn't expect to enjoy a mouse-clicker melee combat.
Whoa love your video man. Keep it up. Gonna watch your other vids as well
This games name sounds like a pharmacy drug
Faxanadu (Famicom-Xanadu) was also released on NES in official English released developed by Hudson Soft
Just bought this, thanks for the rec.
Just want to point out at this moment the game is on sale for $4.49 70% off till November 19
I've had this on my GoG wishlist for several years, just haven't got around to picking it up since i have many dozens of other games to play through as it is. Some day I'll get it, maybe.
The PS2 throwback is amazing
Falcom’s best game. If you enjoyed this you should also try the remake of Brandish on PSP, called Brandish: The Dark Revenant
What game is at 55:52?
store.steampowered.com/app/409890/Stranger_of_Sword_City/ stranger of sword city.
Aw! :3 That is the most ADORABLE little ice cream cone EVER!!!! D: D: D: D: I know, this video was about something else entirely but I couldn't help being intimidated by cuteness ^_^
Played this about 15 years ago on a Nokia NGage handheld. Likely one of the best titles for that system.
feels like Ys
It definitely has some oath in felghana-era vibes.
Sigh, fine...I'll play it again
18:00 man that soft opener for the crafting system got me good... I feel seen.
When I first saw this CRPG ass "you can control everything with the mouse including the character" PC game, and it was from fucking Japan, I thought I was tripping. To me, Japanese RPGs have always been 100% console focused like Final Fantasy, Persona, Pokémon, Dragon Quest, to see a legitmately classic style PC game from Japan was completely unheard of for me, and immediately caught my attention
I enjoyed this video, thanks. Some critique: that's not how you pronounce 'leitmotiv'. Articulation and mastering could use some work.
One of my fav games of all time. Having Nioh+Final Fantasy is a very odd combination but pretty much tailor made for me. Absolutely love this game, 500+ hours in it and every so often I play some more. It got snuffed by the trailers and releasing close to Elden Ring. Not to mention Nioh and FF fans can be super annoying and if a game isn't exactly what they expect/want, they just disparage it without even trying.
Wow a recent Xanadu Next review? Edit: Also watching this made me remember how good the soundtrack is. I played this a couple years ago and the most similar game to it, imo, was Demon's Souls. Really enjoyed this game as it felt like playing DeS again
Grandia 2 was one of my absolute favourite games in my youth. There were times when I considered Grandia 2 as way better than the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises. I played this game over and over, I must've completed the game tens of times and cried when Millenia got eaten every single time. I loved Millenia so much.
Awesome game
I have been BEGGING people to play this since it came out. There is just so much in this game that feels like the PS/Saturn era and the nostalgia the game it invokes is pretty powerful for me. It is such a satisfying a game to play.
I was super surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I've been super glad to see so many people in the comments section who also love it a lot.
You forgot the secret post-game dungeon, the chaos realm
It's true, I mention in passing at the time crevice, but I cut it for time on my edit. It's surprisingly more challenging than I thought it would be, too.
Man....Xanadu....thats a name I havent heard in 30+ years.
I played Faxanadu and loved it. I definitely would love to play this game as well
