That's awesome! Which spark plugs did you use?
I cant remember they would be the same as i use in the pratts id say I bought a stack of new old stock plugs years back
Sweet!
you do not pre-oil the engine????
I do pre-oil my engines !!!!!
very interesting and nice job explaining this engine ! curious what the cost is for each start ?
The government forced me to waste all my cartridges so only fiel cost now ive converted it to electric start
Fantastic. Beautiful work!
Absolutely drop dead gorgeous!!!
Merci beaucoup l'Ami
👀
Flew on S -58 helos that had this engine, Thank You for the video and the sounds!
this does not seem to have an inertial starter as Microsoft Flightsim tries to make you believe.
It has a standard electric starter
Jets run for ages as they do not put any weight on their bearings while running.
nice clean burner!
love the bend!
I was buit from scrapped parts.
What I've heard: The Kinner has a fundamental cam system. Starts super easy. Valves run cool. It's tolerant to a large slow propeller. Old cylinder bores are rebuilt with nickel electroplating indefinitely. .. Correct me if I'm wrong.
'Strewth, mate! Bloody well done! 😍 It was a shame to have to destroy all those perfectly good starter cartridges but I'm so glad you devised a solution. Next step? I guess an after-burner from a ""EE Lightning" would be an interesting addition. 🤣 Though, that might invoke a visit from another set of bureaucratic "job's-worths" 🙄
Looks and sounds great Kudos! :o)
What is the point of your hearing protection if you aren't going to wear it?
If you look closely you will see that im wearing earplugs so not only was i wearing hearing protection , i had aditional protection if needed . Good to see that you pay attention to the small details, thanks
Australian is so hard to understand.
Batmobile
Wonderful birdsong. God I miss Australia. I still call her home 😊Thanks for walk through and demo. What a beauty 👍
Howdy neighbor, I know it's your hobby but would you mind keeping the noise down a bit mate? We're tryin' to watch the telly.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊😊😊
Mate, I learnt more in 11 minutes than I have in years👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Now to get a plane for it to fit in!
There must be a finite supply of those cartridges, do you have any trouble getting supply? Many years ago I used to travel by train each day to work along the Pakenham line, there were two Avons, all tarped up, sitting stored on the top of a shipping container, at a motor junk yard as we passed through Dandenong. I always dreamed of buying and a getting it going. The owner only wanted $1,500-00 each.
Watch my latest vid about the avon :(
@@johnrutherford9937 Thanks, that answers my question.
"I'll give a brief description". Me: skipping to 7:25.
Skip right to the end if you like, still counts as a view, thanks
@@johnrutherford9937 good because I did get to the end. What a magnificent piece of machinery!!!
Well done. Very impressive.
The starters had a habit of failing. I think they had a fusible link but you didn't know until the next attempted start when nothing happened after pressing the start button. Changed many of them on 360 sqdn at RAF Watton/Cottesmore.
under the old refectory at the St Lucia UNI were several r very old radial and rotary air craft engines often wondered what happened to them ,recall a 3 cylinder and a 5 cylinder can not recall what the others were know one was marked LE RHONE know they were there in late 50s
You never know they may still be locked away there what year did you last see them ?
John, im so jealous :) LOL - When they ask "Do you have a party trick"? - You reply." Hold my beer- just got to pop out the the "hangar" ;)
Ha ha ha something like that but its just a garage
Every man needs an engine and a shed.....in this case a big engine, and a bigger shed ! ;)
This is so cool
I could hear Reuben Fleet saying something about it. Thank You to showing inards.
lovely job, sounds great
Very nice job ,goes well and what aircraft was these engines fitted to ? Thanks
OMG, you have done a great job preserving history! Thank you for sharing !
Nice work!
One sweet engine 😊
What a great shame to have to destroy all those cartridges... Superb mechanical and electrical engineering to resolve the issue.
Great job. Thanks for showing the whole resto in one vid rather than in ongoing stages. I changed a sparkplug once , felt the same pride.😂 Nah, just kidding . Your work is inspiring.
Holy crap that's a hot paint job...... cheers from NZ,!
Gas from the cart trun a little turbine... In theory the same way the fule pump's on the engine's on the Apollo Rocket 👍👍👍 great video 👍👍👍
Beautiful job,and she looks gorgeous in black and green.
Beautiful engine John. Well done loving the videos and photos great to see real craftsmanship and such a high attention to detail.
Magnificent piece of engineering. A lot of work .a lot of knowledge....just fabulous at the end
Beautiful sir
Great to watch john I wish my meteor started that easy 😊
love the sound of radials
