First Motovlog Ride (featuring the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak)
Was listening to a funny story with an extremely veteran adventure rider. Each time he talked about his drops he mentioned he had a picture someplace!! Hmm, ok. Some time later I drove a mountainous route to a large store. Only 15% of parking spaces taken up. Could have parked anywhere but I'm on a bike, should get closer, but also want to face outward. Start doing loops around the lot, through spaces, picking up a little speed, bike leaning, starting to get a little nervous. I pick a spot and drive through a car and truck that were kitty corner to each other and stop - the bike is barely leaned over, in gear, full tank, NOPE - I drop it - D: 1200 GSA with panniers! I stare at it... calmly turn it off, open a case, get my phone and take a picture. Hopefully won't see too many of those, but it gave me a chance to loosen up. A dude came and helped. He was on the wrong side but I grabbed the handlebar and pannier strut and he helped it not go OVER! That would have been classic and worthy of another picture. Put it on the center stand and big thanks to that guy. Just shook my head, and as I started walking to the store, noticed there was a dude right next to me in the truck with tinted windows. Pictured him taking a picture of me taking a picture of my bike. But I'm just glad it DIDN'T FALL INTO THE SIDE OF HIS TRUCK!! Could be more embarrassed than I am, but nah... whatever. Should have slowed back down, could have parked ANYWHERE, and when those things are stopped, they need to be UP RIGHT. Still getting used to the beak staying straight as I turn the bars. It happens, thanks for sharing. And something to think about (a pic). The rush to get it righted with the adrenalin can really mess stuff up... like a shoulder.
I can't make out what you are saying lol

It happens bro... Dropped my V4 PP while unloading from trailer. Saw similar oil leak. Nothing to worry. Celebrating second anniversary of mine this month. 12800 miles ultimate pleasure. Last week anual service my dealer installed two software updates. One was for fuel injection. After that the bike is much smoother in lower rpms. Love it. Enjoy your rides.

I dropped my V4S Multistrada back in May on a trip out east. I have no crash protection on the bike but realized after dropping it, that the handlebar hand guards, mirror, and most significantly the pannier are the points that take the primary impact in a tip over. With the panniers off, the pillion foot peg takes the impact at the rear, like you experienced. I realized after that experience that the factory or after market crash bars sold for this bike would have done very little to prevent damage to the bike. I would have prevented minor damage to a couple of plastic parts but would have wound up with most of the same damage, plus scratched up crash bars. On flat asphalt surfaces, your better off without the crash bars cause they don’t really protect the engine and the hand guards, mirror, panniers or rear foot pegs are still going to sustain the same damage. So I decided to save the expense and weight and forgo the crash bars.
@@keithkeller6509 same here. Luckily got a refund on the crash bars and decided to add some sliders. Same as your drop, minor damage to handlebars and pillion foot pegs. Somehow the shift lever was bent. Thankfully, it wasn’t an issue since that metal is mailable and so I could bend it back in place.
Few years back my GS slide beneath me at a stop light on a hill on my ride back from pickup brand new at the dealership. it happens. Just ride on and enjoy it. They are such big bikes that once that start going to the side you exert a ton of adrenaline trying to stop them and get the shakes. Didn’t look like you had any damage good thing. Enjoy riding !

Rule number one. If you drop your bike, do not get back on and ride it straight away, if possible. Take a break for half an hour or so and let your adrenaline come back down. So many follow-on accidents happen because of this.

@@elithegreat6463 honestly, I think it was my balance. Originally I thought it was because I had the fork turned and braked abruptly. I rewatched this several times and I don’t think I planted my foot correctly and lost balance. Embarrassing for sure because, despite its size and height, it’s actually a pretty easy bike to ride. I do miss my Scrambler though. Smaller bikes are more fun IMO.

Looks a bit big for your build tbh. As a 6ft2 230lbs guy I still think smaller lighter bikes are way more fun if you don’t absolutely have to ride with a pillion most if the time. I still remember when I owned a 675 street triple R, I looked like a bear on it but who cares.
@@valebliz I think it’s perfect. Yes it’s a bit big, but it carries its weight very well. I’m 5’11” with a 32” inseam and can flat foot on it. I just made a careless mistake while “white zoning”. A good lesson to learn. I do agree that smaller bikes are more fun. My previous bike was a scrambler and it was a fantastic bike, especially for riding around town. I wanted to do more touring so hence, enter the Multi.
@@sgtfixer yeah I switched to a crossover too, I tour and I often ride with a pillion. Still I wish I could afford to add something like a 765rs or a mt09 SP as a second bike just to have fun.
@@valebliz I totally agree! I’d love to have an mt09. I loved my fz07 I had years ago. Talk about the ultimate city bike. Super fun, plenty of power and very reliable. I occasionally ride with a pillion as well, a secondary reason I got the Multi. The Scram just wasn’t cutting it in that department.
Glad your bike and you are ok. There’s a low seat available - I have it on my bike to help with touching the ground. It’s probably the top box making it more difficult to keep upright. I ride with a small backpack which keeps the weight off the bike.
@@aminfamily6716 nice tips. I don’t really have trouble with its size or weight, even when my girlfriend rides with me. This whole accident was really strange. I feel like I just didn’t have good balance at that moment, partially because I wasn’t paying attention. Thanks for the nice comment.
I will not worry about bit, that had happened to everyone, about when you wore cleaning the engine I couldn’t hear if you found oil? I have the same beautiful bike and one time when I put my bike on the stand I saw oil on the same area, and is because the water pump was seeping, I know is a water pump but some how leak oil too. So I took it to the dealer and they replaced the water pump under warranty. Good luck :)😊
@@CarlosSilva-wn8qq thanks brother. Nice, how do you like your Pikes? Love mine. It’s so much more bike than I’ll ever need. I’ve owned it for three months and still discover things about it. I think the oil was from the bleeder. Haven’t seen any oil anywhere since the drop. Rode it for about an hour the other night and didn’t have any issues. Rode like the dream bike it is! 😉
Buys Pikes Peak, takes no courses, rides the speed limit everywhere, starts shaking like a leaf after dropping the bike, go ahead and hand this thing back to the dealer and get a Harley.
You've made some ignorant assumptions in your comment and Harley's aren't my style. I like them, just not my style.
@@sgtfixer I mean an experienced rider that has some courses under their belt wouldn't slam the front brake, and ride so cautiously everywhere, you looked about 20 times before you pulled away from the stop sign and you used improper technique to pick the bike up which for someone your age could throw your back and send you to the ER...
@@Waldo1122 I think anyone who swings a leg should be continuously training, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being cautious. I do agree on the lifting technique, tried it the right way and was a no go, so I need to work on my legs a bit more.

Silly mistake. I think I just lost balance. It doesn't appear I had the fork turned, but I know I gave it a handful of brake. Felt like a dummy! Lol
@@sgtfixer That's the thing w the Multi, they are tall & top heavy, and once she starts to go, she's gone. This is why I sold mine, Too Big, To tall, To expensive, To wide, To heavy.....and who really needs 178HP.
I was backpedaling mine out of the driveway, like I had 20 other bikes, and she started to lean & there was just no stopping her. Don’t beat yourself up on this. It can happen. At 6:19, you touch what appears to be plastic venting. It appears to be dual purpose drop protection/venting. You may consider checking the price to replace the venting should you ever need to, if less than sliders? Just a thought. Congrats! Beautiful bike! I’m enjoying the 1260 MTS at the moment.
