Little speed test between copper and fibre
Hows it been any problems mine gets installed tomorrow
Hi, everything working fine still. The only thing I might do is buy a better gaming modem/router, one that let's me use my VPN right from the router. The pro router doesn't do that. Other than that I am still happy with the service. Hope all goes well tomorrow, maybe you can let me know how things go for you, eventually.
Hey, I heard rumours that Vodafone likes to block VPN's. I am a little bit concerned, as I use it to WFH. Is that the case still?
I use vpn and don't seem to have any issues. The only thing I know of is that the pro router doesn't let you connect direct to VPN as the connection comes in. I am going to buy a gaming router that will let you route everything through it, you have to contact support for your login and password from them, along with a few settings to put into your new router
Yes Vodafone is looking good, getting 931 download currently. BT prior to this was around 450. I have the Vodafone pro 2 with 6E router and mesh. The speed I am getting is ethernet connected to the mesh/booster with wifi backhaul, so all in all very good
I have just upgraded to the pro II for better wireless coverage. I hope it is as good as the original one was
@@smig72 It should be, the pro 2 mesh router and boosters are excellent quality, only thing is there isnt much you can configure but saying that there isnt much need as they seem to run perfect, I am a PC gamer and ping is perfect!
Unfortunately I have to wait till 2026 for fibber to the house because I live in the middle of nowhere
That's a raw deal. How fast is the current one you are on? I think you can try speed things up if enough locals show interest in the same
Vodafone is really good on upload compared to virgin media, for example I have 360mb package from virgin and the upload is just 36mbwhich is really bad, should be 360mb
That what really attracted me to Vodafone. The upload speed and cost were the 2 big issues I had with Virgin, the service was fine for me otherwise. I have just had cause to get in touch with Voda, my Wired items kept dropping out, I thought the router had gone bad . I gave them a ring and they updated the router software whilst I was still on the phone with them and then phoned me back over the next couple of days and did checks at there end to see if things were still working. I must say that I was very impressed.
Looking at getting Vodafone but its not possible for anyone to be digging any channels across our shared driveway, I'm sure there's fibre all the way down the street , but not to the property, what do they do about this ?
They brought it over the local telephone pole. Sounds like it would be the answer for your situation. 👍
@@smig72 None of them on our estate, done some research and I think they can use BT ducting that's already there under the driveway .
There is always a way 😂
umm very interesting private registration searches you have been doing, cookie monster don't lie ! 😂
😆
Excellent video. Was it openreach who installed the ONT , and did the equipment arrive first?
Hows the service?
Absolutely fine at this end mate
the blackbox on the wall is a calix gigaspire... its ur ONT or fiber modem.... the box on the table is just a router
Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if it was some kind of phone/fibre splitter box
@@smig72 an ONT ( optical network terminal) converts the light coming through your fiber into electrical signals that can pass through the copper Ethernet cable and out to ur router and computers
Any installation price. Or landline with it???
Mine came with land-line on the same fibre, I don't use it. There was no charge for installation and it was installed via the telegraph pole, I was glad as my previous virgin install came in through the garden wall, bit of a messy job
@@smig72 so about £30 plus a month
Hello bud. I just got this 910mb wifi today however ive never seen above 600mbps its always around 300-400 when im close to the router and around 200 when im far. Whats the issue?
Try testing via ethernet from pc to router. You wont get those speeds over wifi.
Because you have to wait a week for your Internet to settle, whatever results you get on day 1 will never be the same as after a week once settled
Just ordered this week can’t wait to get rid of sky.
Hi mate, just wondering hows the ping and speeds so far? Im currently at the end of my virgin media contract and wanting to change provider and also in leeds, but only openreach network in my area for now but vodafone told me i can just switch to the city fibre network once they are in my area and are offering the 900mbps package for £36 per month
Hello mate, I have just taken a speedtest.net on my phone on wifi and the Ping is currently 8ms. You can't go wrong for £36 and for me it is still running trouble free, no buffering while we are all on it. I can't complain mate and I will definitely stay with them when renewal time comes round.
The 910 package is currently 29 quid a month for 2 years , just signed up
I'm glad to see that they are still doing the £29 introductory 2 year deal. I hope I can still negotiate a similar price again at the end of my 2 year.
I have been with Virgin media, i started off paying £30 per month but iver the years the oruce has been going up, currently paying £81 for virgin, they now want me to pay £97 per month. Im also only getting about 18-20 mbps. Vodafone citifibre have promiced my a minimum of 455 mbps and at only £39 per month. Im going to switch next month. Virgin media have just gotten greedy and slow over the years.
Hey Steve what ethernet cable do you use, and also do you have the wifi 6e booster? If you do have the wifi 6E booster can u test if there is a big difference without it on wi-Fi, cheers!
Hi Steve what speed do you get if just do the test on WiFi? Cheers mate
Hi craig, just done a couple of quick tests from upstairs on a Friday night. Getting a little less than 485 with a ping of 7 or 8
Cheers mate am getting average 300 on both with test on wifi seems low as advertise 900. Waiting on Vodafone getting back to me. Cheers for the fast reply mate👍
@craigm7821 I don't know if it's my phone or not but I never get much more than 500/550. I just hope it doesn't go up massively from the £34 I currently pay at the end of the 2 year deal. Take care mate
3:32 how much was the number plate ?
Lmao 😂
😂😂😂
Hi Steve, I am user city fiber Gigabit but my ping is 17, I don’t use WiFi.How can I improve my Ping and jitter?thank you
Hi, I'm not too savvy regarding ping and jitter but after a little reading it appears that 17 milli seconds is quite good. Have a read through this and I hope it helps you thegeekstreet.com/lower-your-ping/
Thank you very much for answering
same issue here... most likely you are one of the "lucky" users like me who get routed via Scotland instead of a local server...
How’s the ping like mate? Also does it cut off at any time or does it stay consistent?
Morning mate, ping is still very low, will update this post after work with the actual ping mate. Never dropped out as of yet, would recommend mate. The lowest speed that I have ever had was in the region of 850 up and down, that was one weekend at peak times.
hi, how you get that speed for this price ?
Hi, when they put the new fibre in my street, it was a 2 year deal
Does these speeds still stay the same if using Nord vpn
I have used a few different VPNs in the past and never achieved anywhere near these kind of speeds. I would guess that most people are still using ISPs that still offer very slow upload speeds, there will be many factors that slow things considerably.
Was the computer on WiFi or Wired??
Getting this at the end of October, can't wait to finally bin my crappy Sky Broadband!
You'll not regret mate
I just switched today from Sky to Vodafone 900 FTTP, will be installed Dec 1st. Can't wait to say goodbye to 3mbps download speed. How's it going so far since your activation?
@@lovejetfuel4071 Pretty good. WiFi on the router itself is a bit crap but installed a TP Link Deco M9+ mesh network which massively improves it. Getting about 400-700mbps round the house. I plugged my laptop in and got 937mbps! Also, no disconnects. My Sky Broadband would drop connection several times, it even happened 17 times in a single day!
@@lovejetfuel4071 Hey mate, I've done the same but mine will take a bit longer please tell me how it is when it's has done
@@lovejetfuel4071how's your experience been?
Ps. It’s Vodafone not Vodaphone
Are you from Leeds?
Yes
Wow ! that’s fantastic speeds! the ping is very low aswell. I’ve currently got Vodafone Superfast 2 FTTC which is still good but at the moment we do not have the FTTP available in my area.
Can I ask as I'm useless with all this stuff, what is FTTC ?
@@topfuelteddyfiber to the cabinet
Its getting City Fibre to actually come thats the problem. They keep cancelling their installation appointments without any reason, and then it takes weeks to get another, which they then cancel. Endless merry go round.
People will be crossing over in mass amounts I would of thought, trouble with that is the delays I guess. It is bad business though, isn't it
CityFibre came to install mine via a Vodafone contract and when the team arrived they couldn't do the install as the telegraph pole was deemed unsafe and also was at capacity for cables! Overall not impressed with CityFibre offering high speed internet but not actually being able to deliver.........in our street at least 🤬 😢😢
That's the first time I have heard that, couldn't they bring it in underground, like Virginia do ?
@@smig72 No😏 In my area, the connections are made from the telegraph poles. CityFibre did formally contact me to tell me that they do not 'own' the poles and that the responsibility for the poles is held by OpenReach and so if CityFibre need to utilise that pole, they have to go cap in hand to OpenReach to ask for the required works to be carried out and that currently, it could be a 12 month wait for that to happen. Funnily enough though, I have spoken to BT who are apparently OpenReachs primary customer and they have stated that OpenReach say that there is a connection available on the pole to my house! This possibly/maybe means that OpenReach 'reserve' connections for BT and providers like CityFibre are put to the back of the queue ??? Anyway, I've booked for a BT installation in a couple of weeks so I'll see how it all turns out 🙏 If all goes well, I'll finally be able to break free from the monopoly that VirginMedia currently have in this area with their fibre optic network!!!
@@Krog360 it makes sense because openreach is owned by BT but "operated independently" what ever that means
@@smig72 Not everywhere it's possible to deliver undeground. I've got also Vodafone from Cityfibre since 18months so far. Got earlier VirginMedia. So happy that I was able to show middle finger to Virgin. To the point. I just got fibre cable throught pole to my house.
CityFibre operate they own infrastructure. Did you see they teams burring they infrastructure on your street some time ago? If you didn't, they might be sent by Vodafone to connect you to someone's else network. Vodafone use thirds party networks.
Hi Steve, how is the internet holding up now? Thinking of swapping to this service
Hi Joe, working like a dream mate. I haven't had to restart the router at all and speeds are pretty consistent. Even though we have more devices, no one has had any buffering whatsoever.
@@smig72 Brill! I'm glad it's working so well for you. How is the Wi-Fi? Because I'm on Virgin right now and their Wi-Fi is bloody awful
I have just bought this package and was with Virgin. I am quite excited for these speeds it looks great but I've seen people with problems through Vodafone
@Joe-vn6cb with Virgin I would run it in modem mode and have another good quality wireless router upstairs, which I still have but haven't had a need to set that back up at the moment.
@aftabsaquib1892 Hi, that's really why I made the video, I had only seen fairly poor reviews also, so thought it a good idea to put a positive one on. They are building a further 100 houses fairly locally just now, there almost done, let's see if the demand effects things over the next 6 months or so. I hope not 😩
Awesome little place you found there.
I used to spend many times away with work and as you know, one hotel is very much like another. This place was some kind of hotel overflow cottages in Gretna. I was very lucky to stay there. Be well Kevin :)
I love virgin but I wish they had fibre. 14ms of ping isn't doing it for me. Currently on fibre with 8ms or maybe 6ms ping.
love your video guys😍
Looks to me like you have a corroded phone line, high pings almost always means noisey phone line. The bad news is these lines always pass talktalk's own internal diagnostics so they will try to fob you off. What you need to do is demand the issue is escalated to an open reach engineer (not the talktalk bright spark engineer), tell them there is noise on the line. I had the same problem, after the new line was fitted my speed went from 3mbps to 23mbps. The whole process took over 1 year to do and talktalk gave me compensation of just £8. Unfortunately fibre isn't available in my area but I'm more than happy with my ADSL speed now.
is your talktalk Fibre medium? if it is i might have to go for talktalk fibre large, because i need more of a upload speed to do live streams...
0.70 upload thats what i get
I'd love to see a screenshot of you surfing the web as this test is only part of the story.
ping is extremely high on both. not good.
Is it holding up ok?
