The friend with a machine will surely not like being asked to do yet something else (everybody asks for stuff as if it didn't take no time)

Sometimes this happens to me and I usually take off the old waistband and I put in a zipper and make a fitted waistband since I would turn my old elastic waist skirts into an Edwardian inspired skirt.

I had a favorite skirt where i replaced the elastic by hand. The construction was simpler, so i just had to make a hole in the seam, cut the elastic, put in a new and sew thd hole shut. Later I had to mend a few holes. Then it got more holes, and when i held the fabric up to the light it was almost see through. The poor skirt was threadbare, and unable to hold itself together. My old favourite skirt is now waiting for me to take a patern and make a replica. It might take some time, as it consist of many bias cut panels that have stretched.

I hope the last bit was sarcastic. I sew. I have had friends/co-workers come up, thrust projects at me, and expect me to do them for them. The one person that doesn't act entitled to this will actually pay for materials and bribe me with food.

I've been knitting for about a year longer than you. I think you are doing great. I'm currently doing a fish lips heel on the pair of socks that I have been stressing on.

First pair of socks will make cozy slippers and the second pair look great :)
