People in STEM are known for being ultra-rational, and atheism is the norm.
I myself was an atheist for most of my life and had my share of jokes about religious people and their irrationality.
But after 20 years, through reading, studying and reasoning, I joined the Roman Catholic Church.
And now I want to chat with believers, and learn more about their experiences in the field of science and tech.

What is belief? Ep 17 - John Larsen
My guest today is John Larsen, a software developer from Norway, who enjoys PHP, and doesn’t seem to like Java very much. He was raised into a fringe Christian Church with 8 siblings, and after seeing that Church dissolve, got into his own path to test his faith, landing where he is today.
At some point he has read 200 books in a year, with more than 40 in a month. We talked about the Church Fathers, the Didache, and had a very intellectually satisfying discussion about what constitutes belief.

Thank you guys for an open conversation like this
just me or primagen's audio is bit out of sync with the video?
loved the video, but the host needs to be bit more receptive and present
Awesome discussion. Thank you guys
Glauber, I would advise listening to Matt Fradd podcast Pints With Aquinas, The Catholic Gentleman podcast, The Council of Trent etc, so much good content available on UA-cam.
yes, they are all very great channels and I follow them often.
Aaron's story hit so close for me. Thank you so much for sharing.
This needs more views!
let's make it happen! Subscribe and share
As someone who is an atheist, the resilience and overcoming shown is beautiful. At the end no matter what spiritual choice we make the main thing is how we understand our part within a really tough situation like that. Thanks a lot for opening up this story to all of us <3
Thanks! I've had Atheists on the show as well (check out the episode with Lane Wagner), and the whole premise is that I myself was an atheist for 20+ years. I am happy that you're here, and please keep coming!
❤ thank you
Jesus is not God, he is a messenger of God.
you are free to believe that, but the evidence is overwhelming in the direction of his divinity.
❤❤❤ I came here from Twitter. Specifically for 19:00 . God bless you Aaron
❤ thank you
I'm not a religious person however I am a staunch believer in the non-dual nature of things. It's striking how much what you talk about resembles many of the teachings of non-duality at it's core. Buddhism, Zen, Hinduism etc. Many concepts are repeated: one entity in control of everything (except one entity IS everything), as such we are all god / that which makes up the one thing, free-will doesn't really exist how we think it does, we aren't in control of anything, what's going to happen was always going to happen, there is no self or people, only stories we make up about what we perceive. I buy into the Christian story, but not necessarily believing the stories at face value. I think like you're both alluding to, they are often wonderful analogies for a deeper meaning. Much respect to you both, we are all one!
The resurrection itself is not an allegory, but a historical event. Understanding that is what did away with my 20+ years of atheism.
@@the_savefile I definitely am not an atheist and I don't dispute anything you say since you clearly have spent much more time than I understanding the theology. I just find it absolutely fascinating that the core of the message of Christianity is shared by many other religions throughout history. There's something to that. Thanks for the great video again!
@@DavidThorpe it is in fact fascinating! I am glad you are enjoying the show, please subscribe and keep coming!
Thank you both ❤
It is great having your support!
First. Actually she is Henry’s partner in the hope in source pod
Man, I love this. I am so glad I found this channel. I can't wait to watch more of these. And hey, if you wanna interview a not-so-nice Mormon I'll go on the show xD
Send me a DM on X!
This is so good. Thank you Aaron for sharing your testimony. This glorifies the Lord and through you, His grace and sovereignty was proclaimed.
I am glad you enjoyed it, Jeff!
❤
It would be great to see Greg Johnston (Leptos) and Carson Gross (HTMX) here!
I don't know them well but will try and reach out!
This podcast gives me so much hope. 🙏 After a troubled past, finding Jesus helped me turn my life around, and I decided to go back to school for software development. However, I’ve noticed that religion is often viewed skeptically in tech communities, which made me worry that I wouldn’t be given a second chance or find others who share my values.
I am happy to hear that!
Thanks for having me on the podcast Glauber! Loved our chat ❤
Glauber is catholic because he believes it’s true, not because it was culturally expedient.
30:23 Saying that a religion is just culture is getting it backwards. Cultures are religious, not the other way around, religions are above, or outside, any one culture. We can also see this by different cultures, even over time, sharing the same religion, how is this possible if the religion belongs to the culture? Pekka needs to correct his hierarchy of objects, this is very bad OOP.
Wow I can't believe you got Joe Rogan as a guest, gonna give this a listen now!
Really good episode, Lane comes across as a great guy
quality was good, so I just published the live version
Damn this was just th VOD upload so I need to watch this twice??
Aaron's testimony is powerful. I, too, am a misty eye person when it comes to my testimony of God's glory and power. Praise God for His sovereign will and His grace.
Fantastic series!!
great talk
@the_savefile To me one of the greatest evidences, if not the greatest, for the resurrection of Christ is the testimony of the apostle Paul. The finest jew of his time among the religious elite, a man who had a lot to lose, who brutally persecuted the church, suddenly believes this Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God, the Savior, is alive & sitting at the right hand of God, proceeds to live, suffer & die for Christ. This should be at the very least "curious" to unbelievers. Btw, I loved the interview, I'm so happy to find that The Prime is a believer.
I love this podcast, this is so great.
Thank you! Make sure to like and subscribe, and spread the word. I started this quite recently.
The host does a good job of staying interested and keeping the conversation moving even though there are parts he doesn't agree with. Great conversation as usual.
I'm surprised this video hasn't got more views, such a great conversation.
thank you for doing this, Glauber. The world needs to hear more about Holy Spirit. Loved Joshua's testimony! So heartfelt and honest.
Amen brother. Thank you for tuning. Glad to hear you were touched by it :) God Bless you.
i'm loving this podcast series. Appreciate your heart, Glauber. The world needs more of this!
In terms of like, having your first spiritual experience, I don't think just being mentally ready is sufficient, you almost have to practice your intuition and get used to using it in your daily life. If you've played Disco Elysium then it would be to level the "Inland Empire"-skill lmfao Multiple scriptures across many religions mention intuition being our gateway to the metaphysical. I started interacting with it on a rational level, that intuition is the background processing of information in our subconscious that later reveals itself in the form of dreams or gut feeling, and I noticed that it was often more accurate than my conscious thoughts when it came to larger life decisions. However eventually I was starting to have idk, "occurrences" I guess, predictions, gut feelings, that in no way could just have been my mind. I was becoming increasingly sure that my intuition was being guided by God and/or the holy spirit. Things escalate from there to where I know feel the presence of God in my life quite regularly, but it very much started from just taking intuition seriously like a skill I needed to develop, kind of like training your third eye I suppose.
I agree that you can open someone to the idea of taking religion and the metaphysical more seriously by having a rational discussion, however I think the idea that there is something beyond this material world almost has to be experienced first hand in order to really take root.
Oh wow. I joined the live stream late and was wondering why you were discussing Jesus. Didn't realize it's a podcast on religion. ❤ Love this! Prime got delivered. These moments are real folks!
glad you liked it!
54:00 The book being referred to is "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl, he outlines the basis of his theory of psychology called "Logotherapy" that is "based on the premise that the primary motivational force of an individual is to find a meaning in life."
yes, thanks! As I age I am having more problems remembering names =) This is a great book, that I read many years ago, still as an atheist.
@@the_savefile I was also still an atheist when I read it, or a christian atheist whatever where I believed in the rationality of belief and meaning but wasn't necessarily spiritual and actually believed in the metaphysical. I think the book that really turned me was "Man and his symbols" by Carl Jung. Initially I just interpreted my dreams, which was powerful enough to make me believe in something beyond, however once I started interpreting the symbols that appeared in my waking life there really was no turning back.
the original quote was by Nietzsche "If we have our own why in life, we shall get along with almost any how."
I love this conversation. We need more of these conversations in the world for sure 🙏
Thank you! I am only getting started with the show, and it means the world that other people see value in it.
@@glommeryt I'm so glad you started this channel, its one of my favorites already. Tejas as your first guest is epic 🙏 Can't wait to watch the next episode with Kent. They have been two of most influential people in my dev journey.
