    I just stumbled across this review of yours and just wanted to say a few words of kindness. Your delivery is so articulate and elegant. You must make your parents very proud. I've been into modern board gameing for around 20 years but have only just recently begun playing adventure games. I've been enjoying Arkham Horror LCG this last month or so. In waiting are Sleeping Gods, VagrantSong, Pauper's Ladder, and Etherfields.

    Out of curiosity in what game do you have a similar cube assigning and recovering system for your action? And that with the river tile as it work seem unique to me especially in skirmish game. One that has a really cool system is level 7 omega protocol with the adrenaline point. Maybe you could speak a bit slower and take time articulate more or nuancing more your voice to give a better melody to it. Boardg & co is clearly speaking too fast and articulating enough most of the time. ^^

    • @theorpheusvarietyshow
      @theorpheusvarietyshow Рік тому

      I haven’t played it but I think Conan from monolith has a similar river system. I haven’t heard about level 7 omega protocol, is it good?

    • @krusty1796
      @krusty1796 Рік тому

      @@theorpheusvarietyshow for sure Conan has the same river. But it was invented for Conan. And Batman mostly is a Conan reskin from the same designer so he is still the one that come with these ideas. My question is outside of these 2 game since you said it is something we have seen around I'm curious to know what game, because I like this system. Because to me yes assigning cubes or anything that symbolize action point is not unique but what differ is the way it is executed. I.e L7OP has a token system but totally different from Batman and any other game. The river in Ark nova is just an other thing that might look like it but it's not. And 1st it came after Conan/Batman and 2nd it just don't function the same way. For gameboard mechanism it's better to look at it properly. Otherwise every game with cards or dice can be categorize as the same. In boardgame a small tweak can make a difference. I.e not reshuffling your discard pile in a deckbuilding game and boum, when you play, what card and order will become more important. To be precise Fred Hendry's design for Conan/Batman is called Tactical Homeostatic System, THS. . One point that is fun is the Flexibility of being able to do your turn in any order and to the scale of only 1 action per player and not being forced to play your whole turn before the next player. For now I might only know one game like this that, it should be spirit island. For L7OP you should watch the dice tower review , and spoiler they adore it :) . Other than that, too big, too expensive , too much iconography without any player aid, too constraint for the heroes since 1 gem is pure gold in this game... it's kind of too much for me too. ^^ That last point imply the fact that the game is to easy for the overlord make it less fun for me as I'm always playing OL. But after a couple of game with the balance variants introduced in the new rulesbook, it seem better on that point.

    Wow, Jake, I stumbled upon your channel when I found the link to this video on bgg. I don’t know how long you’ve been doing these kind of videos, but I think you do a phenomenal job at your young age. There are a few things I like especially: the structure of your video is very clear and you keep a nice balance between scripted text and talking ad-lib. Some constructive criticism, if you’ll let me: at some points I’d like you to show the viewer what you’re talking about when you’re talking about it. For example: when you were talking about the components, we got to see some footage of the art book. Why not show footage of the time dials when you mention them, why not demonstrate the card mechanism while you’re talking about them, see? Secondly, although you speak very eloquently, I sometimes wished you went a tiny bit slower. And lastly: breaking up a longer talk with a small joke for example would keep the attention of the listener better. I’m going to subscribe to your channel and I hope you can rise up to the level of my favourite boardgame reviewers “shutupandsitdown”. You see, although I really like most of their videos, they are a bit too anti-Kickstarter games and you don’t share that view. I’m hoping you could balance that out a bit. Perhaps you can watch some of their videos and steal some ideas or techniques from them… In any case, you’ve definitely got my humble attention and I hope you can make me a full-fledged fan.

      Wow that was so kind of you thanks so much! I also adore Shut Up and Sit Down! One of the challenging things with B-Roll for this video was I didn't want to exactly spoil anything for the game, which is why I didn't show the dials in the book of secrets, but I definetly will change that in the future. My family comments on how fast I talk and I'll work and that and jokes. ;) Thanks for watching, this meant a lot to me!

    Batman: The Animated Series Adventures is the closest I’ve seen to this game, it’s made by IDW and based on there game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles City Fall/Change is Constant. As for storage, it got much worse in season 2 with the picking zone (every mini in a separate box). I’m currently backing season 3 for there updated rulebook/character sheets, Solo/Co-op mode and there new storage system for season 2. I’m also getting all the new material in season 3 just because I’m a Batman fan but just season 1 is plenty if you just want to play the game.

    Thanks for the review! Very well structured and articulated. I'm wondering about one thing: how tight would you say the game is? The reason I ask is it seems to have that Euro concept of tradeoffs between resources (advisors that convert one resource into another or tack on bonus acquisitions etc.) but I don't know if the game is quite forgiving and lets you build up an engine, or if it is quite punishing and you barely scrape together the resources to enact your plans.

    • @theorpheusvarietyshow
      @theorpheusvarietyshow 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the reply! I haven't played a lot of euro games, I prefer more amertirashy :), so I don't have much to compare it to. In my experience you have time to build up an engine, the difficulty can come from when other players take an advisor you want or won't help you fill up a worker placement spot (because then it won't activate and you therefore won't get the resources) But in general I have enough resources, and if I really need more they aren't that difficult to acquire. Hope this helped!

      its good but I still prefer unmatched. Just not a big fan of Dice games I guess, but its still a fun or good game.

    A bit of feedback - from around 6:34 to 7:15, you kinda talked yourself in circles, when just one or two of you phrases tied up your ideas nicely. "It's straightforward, but it's a bit wonky in how it is executed." worked perfectly, and you didn't need to elaborate unless you were going to give an example.
