Waterpump test. Stock Mopar 6-blade VS. PRW aluminium-pump.
Переглядів 3,1 тис.11 років тому
I have some issues regarding high watertemp on my turbocharged Mopar smallblock. Since I´ve read some bad stuff about the aftermarket pump for the Mopar bigblock, I decided to test my stock 6-blade pump (from an AC-car) VS. the aluminium version PRW has to offer for Mopar smallblock. It turns out the PRW version actually flows better on low rpm´s than my stock one. On about 1500 rpms and higher...

    Its well understood the 360 is a larger engine. Those that say its better are a little lost I think. The 340 has a higher level of nickel used in the block. Making it stronger. Its been many years since I messed with the LA engines. But if my memory serves me right. The 273 actually had the highest HP/TQ numbers out of the factory. All the people where you live I am sure look twice when they hear your auto.

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 7 років тому

      DobermansRock Yes the 340 can take a decent amount of abuse before it gives in. It's a fun little motor!

      They are rare in the US or at least seemed like it before Ebay. I can't imagine how much it had to cost for you. When I lived in Germany I did not see many American muscle cars. The ones I did seemed to get a lot of attention from the Germans. I can't believe I found a 383 B for $100. It is a 69 block with 906 heads. Something I can tuck away for a rainy day. I can sell the old cast iron water pump and housing for what I spent on the engine. Some people want everything original. Me original means block, heads, crank and what I dream up for the rest as my combination. I spent my free time in Iraq reading a V-twin engine builders manual. Then I put together a recipe for a very sound engine. Long distance reliability, can run pump gas and if I want to race. Then its just tires and fuel to change. Before my crash my Harley was giving the rockets a hard time.Post more videos. I would love to see up close video of your build and what ideas you came up with.

      Another thing that has taken many years is finding that magic combination. Bore to stroke or stroke to bore have been played with for a long time. Today the numbers are in and we can purpose build a reliable V-8 for a direct application. What does what for what. One of the best examples I can think of in the engine world of V-8's. That shows how much bore and stroke have to do with each other is the Chevy 383 stroker. Why put a 400 crank in a 350? Why not just use the 400? Because the 400 does not have a good bore/stroke ratio.

  • @DobermansRock

    • @DobermansRock
      @DobermansRock 7 років тому

      Ok I was a little lost. I just got a 383B and want to ditch the cast iron off the front. I have built LA engines but this 383 is my first B. So as with any engine. Research must be done.

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 7 років тому

      DobermansRock Ah I see! I haven't used the PRW pump for more than a year so I don't know how it will last in the long run. But the performance is really good!

      I love engine building Just wish my money matched my addiction. I dig your set up for the test its cool when people think outside the box. What kind of bottom end parts are involved in this, are you using a stock block because i have a stock '70 vintage 340 in a '68 Barracuda. I making about 380 on motor with 100 shot of nitrous and I've heard that's about all that stock bottom end can take safely and reliably. I want to go to turbo but I think I will need to beef up the bottom end. getting high octane pump gas must be nice. Here I have to buy 90 octane non ethanol ( the only grade available non ethanol, because here in the US we have crap corn ethanol, I cant run it, it gums everything up, thank you corn farmer cartel) and mix octane booster in.

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 8 років тому

      I run forged rods and pistons with the stock forged crank and everything is balanced. The block is completely stock. I think these blocks can withstand more than jus t 500 hp. Yes it's really nice to have 98 octane at every pump here in Sweden. Go turbo, you won't regret it!

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 7 років тому

      the mopar blocks are pretty tough. main studs/billet main caps and a girdle can probably take you to 700 hp.

    I'm riding a 318 turbo turbine which do you use? I'm thinking in my case one Holset hx 40 will have 8.5 compression 340 heads 360 cam 268/276 manifold engine holley street dominator carb holley 650cfm, MSD ignition, fuel ethanol 115 octane, if you can help me in the project I thank'm from Brazil Thank You

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 9 років тому

      +Marcos Dodge If you mean the size of the turbo, mine is 66 mm in and 82mm out. A HX40 seems a bit small for your engine, go for a HX45/HX50 if you can. I´m sure the rest of the setup will work just fine.

  • @MoparDODGETURBOmmWhp
    @MoparDODGETURBOmmWhp 9 років тому

    318ci? heads? compression? pumpgas? hp?

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 9 років тому

      +Marcos Dodge Nope. It´s a 340, in this video I was still using the X-heads with copper gaskets. It was about 8,5:1. Yes, 98 octane pumpgas. It hasn´t been to the dyno yet, but I would guess around 500-ish.

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 10 років тому

      8 3/4" rear end with Richmond spool and 3,23:1 gear ratio. I believe the converter is stock that came along with the 727 gearbox. It would need a new transmission and converter though, this one is kind of thrashed..

    What does your car rev to? And how much power

    • @sjowe
      @sjowe 10 років тому

      I let off at ~6500 rpm, it would probably take more but I don´t want to push things. It has not been on the dyno yet, but I would guess about +500 hp with 1 bar of boost.
