Pretty simple IF you can get to the lever and assembly. Mine is a TDI. I'm going to have to remove the fuel filter to get to the passenger light, and the airbox to get to the driver one. Although, if I have to disconnect the battery anyway, just removing it would make things easier...

Life saver I will be doing this on my wife's 2006 VW Convertible beetle which seems to be having the same issue. Unlocks some times and other times it wont. Has to be a crack in the solder.

That's very helpful thank you👍 mine is not as bad but hard to open from outside and easy to open from inside so thinking it could be the cable to the outer handle either stretched or needs adjustment

Mine stupid light housing will not lock in place. New lamp fell out somewhere when driving across town. Second land won't lock in as well. Shitty design

what if my lense cover shattered ? A rock totally shattered the plexy-glass and now I have to replace the lense cover, bulb us untouched😢

I replaced my whole lock actuator but i lost the set screw for the lock cylinder, and the cylinder keeps falling out, do you know what kind of screw it is? also when i bought the car the regulator on drivers side didnt work, so i replaced that too. but when i went and took it all apart someone had just stuck one or 2 screws in the regulator panel to hold it in place so i cant use any of those in the lock cylinder hole, thankyou!

Excellent video. Having to do this a second time now, back to midnight car alarm going off. In my case it's the micro-switch failing and simulating that the door was opened when locked. Also turns interior lights on and off as if door was being opened and closed while underway. Mine is not the problem of cold joint, or failed solder joints. It's the contacts within the micro-switch itself. As an electrician I've encountered many failures of micro-switch contacts. I had a pool with automatic control valves, and I had a standby supply of spares on hand all the time. The first time I did this job, I was able to spray contact cleaner into the switch the best I could, and exercise the switch many times to work the cleaner into the contacts. This helped as that was now 3 years ago, but time to go at it again.

Okay, I did all this and it all works fine except now the window won't roll up all the way. I tried seating the glass a little higher in the clamps, but it's not enough. The motor just stops too soon. Did I do something wrong?

100% he didn't break the windshield. He went to use his wipers and it was messed up and broke the wind shield. Just happened to me.

hi I know nothing about cars and I just got a used '99 beetle yesterday. It was working perfectly fine yesterday when I was driving it home but today I noticed the alarm kept going off when I went to start it and that light was blinking. I was wondering if this effects the battery at all? Because it wouldn't start this afternoon and im not sure what could've caused it because the previous owners said they just recently replaced the battery :(

I owned a 2000 New Beetle back in 2015. I had an alarm issue that was the same as this. The video of explaining this came in handy. Now I own a 2007 New Beetle and it looks like I'm going to have to do the same repair job on it. Thanks for the video...very, very helpful.

@oldskool1964 - on the off chance you still check in on these videos, I wanted to let you know that I'm the current owner of this exact car lol, before I ever picked it up I found your videos when doing some research on the cars to make a decision and it's the coolest thing ever that you made these videos. I wish the car was still in this condition, it's still in great shape overall but the body has seen better days. It still has the Stig sticker on it lol so there's no denying it's the same car, I have it here in Omaha and hope to get it in great shape over the next few years.

I know this video is really old but for anyone who still watches it for support on how to fix the lock module. The spring that was mentioned in the video that you got to be careful as it will fly across garage... well that spring should be set into the arm for pre tension before installation! Most of the time doors get dead locked because this arm from outside handle doesn't return to its original position to reset ! Very important

Question...did u use hub rings to mount your wheels or are they just wheel to stud mounted?

VW changed the design. Some model years are very difficult to change. What year is your car? Yes, the drivers side is much harder. You are quite likely going to break off the lever. A few years and there is so much road grit the lever won't budge. Push too hard and it breaks right off. The lever part is separate from the head light assembly and not very expensive but getting it out is tough.

Hi buddy, do you know anywhere I can get one of the black bolts that hold the mechanism in place ? What you needed the special torx bit from? Some reason I’ve lost one and it’s v annoying

When red light flashes, Unlock the trunk, open the trunk then close it and unlock the door of red light stops blinking

I took the entire door panel off to put in a new door cable, and the same thing happen to the window 😩🙄

My doors will not open from the inside, but they do open from the outside. I took the door panels off to check, and the door lock, window, and door cable works fine. Any suggestions? I hope I dont have to do this.

Really would have been cool to show how you re-routed the cables and positioned the sliders because that's one of the most crucial parts of this job, and the part I needed to see because my cables came apart when I was replacing the door lock module.

Problem Child. I just purchased my 3rd New Beetle. 2000 GLS, Automatic, 2.0. Luckily, I have the service records for the last 6 year. Yeah, she’s been practically rebuilt. My other New Beetles were covered under warranty:) 2003 GL, 5 Speed, 2.0 2005 Turbo, Automatics, 1.8 Other Beetles: 66, 68 and 70. Thanks for the videos!!!!

Great job. I bought some Detata wheels off Ebay for a steal but they are bright bright chrome. And my Hummer is yellow. So that is not a good combination at all. Plan on plastic dipping my wheel as soon as the weather breaks.
