(TL:DR: This took too long to make and I'm tired of working on it. I almost didn't upload this despite "finishing" it, but here's what I ended up with anyway. Enjoy!)
My ambition has gotten the better of me here. This was all recorded from the end of January to the end of February, but I held off on putting the video together until my semester ended. I figured I could do all of it during the Summer and have enough time leftover to start working on the next big project I have planned, but no. Granted, about a month of that Summer I was unable to work on the video due to family matters both regular and unexpected, as well as working on other time sensitive projects. No I do not regret BREAD PROPAGANDA. Still, not getting this done before going back to college has really bummed me out.
This ended up taking about 4 months in total to edit, and roughly 2/3 of that was just audio. I thought to myself while starting to make this, "there's hardly gonna be any hard video edits for this, it's mostly audio, this'll be relatively easy!", but I was so, SO wrong. Audio mixing drove me insane for this project. Despite my best efforts to figure out a specific style and balance to the video before editing everything down, I still ended up having to do some serious renovating. Because of my amateur-ish ways, I ended up combing through the entire 5-hour project several times to readjust certain aspects. Think what I did for the Deltarune Chapter 2 video, but times 4. I'm pretty sure I ended up getting a mild form of RSI for a couple weeks due to heavy editing sessions while having poor ergonomics at my college apartment's desk. Lesson learned, that won't happen again. The moral of the story here is, even if you think you're being smart and prepared, DOUBLE-TRIPLE-QUADRUPLE CHECK AND STILL PREPARE FOR THE WORST.
Like, the video has technically been done for a couple weeks by the time of uploading this, but too many things with how I mixed the audio bugged me. Even now, some of the volume balance in the video still bugs me. The main issue is that the announcer dialogue varies in volume throughout, and that's especially hard to match with my voice with the filter they put on it. I also didn't really record my voice in a consistent manner, what with recording in two separate sessions and moving around while focusing on playing the game, so that doesn't help my case. Even after applying compressors and doing some other trickery, the volume levels for the commentators and my own voice could still be tinkered with more to get it as tight as I really want it, but there's only so far I'm willing to go, especially with a project I've already been working on for so long and am frankly sick of. Sunken Cost Fallacy can only take me so far, and I really just want to work on other projects.
Honestly, even after technically "finishing" the video, I debated with myself for the past two weeks on whether or not to even put this out. Like, "I spent all that time editing and THIS is what I have to show for it? Hell no, that's embarrassing. I'd need another month AT LEAST to get it perfect, and I'm not doing that so maybe I should just keep it in the vault". But, you know, why not? If I'm not gonna work on it anymore, I may as well put it out. Hopefully you'll get some enjoyment out of it, because volume balance issues I have aside I still really like how everything else came together. Maybe if I ever become an audio professional or something I'll make a remastered version, but I'll only think about crossing that bridge if I get there. For now, this is 'THE MADWORLD EXPERIENCE', blemishes and all. It's time for me to move on, do a couple smaller videos to de-stress, and head towards a more colorful future. Even if the past still has its tentacles on me.
(Also, I didn't plan for this year to be MadWorld's 15th anniversary or to have this come out close to Halloween, it just kinda worked out that way. Happy spooky 15th, I guess!)
