That’s why all Race cars like nascar, F1, Indy cars, there all RWD, AWD is only for people who wanna go fast on the street. RWD is for professionals.
If RWD is better or not has nothing to do with that. Most of the time they just use RWD because it is cheaper, easier to repair and lighter. And the grip level is so high on modern tires, they don’t really need AWD. But in other Racesports like Rallye or DTM they often use AWD. A lot of sports cars for the streets use AWD too.

For acceleration, much better. For turning and max speed, it's worse.
Not really, they’ve done lap time with xdrive and Sdrive BMWs and they are practically the exact same. Not sure about top speed but I imagine the RWD would have a slight edge. At higher power levels AWD makes much more sense because traction is likely the limiting factor. At lower power levels, like an STI or 330i it makes a little less sense in terms of performance.
