Heya! I'm Garr, my raven companion is 'raf, and we mainly play videogames. I'm currently on a quest to get good at fighting games, after not really touching the genre for about 30 years; can this old dog learn to keep up with the youngsters?

The machine i've been working on is finally functional!!! Obviously, it needs a lot of refining and a proper case, and all that, but it's fully functional! You push the button, it draws you 3 tarot cards (if the card is revered, the indicator above the card turns red), and then interprets the spread for you on the e-papper screen :D

Field Trip!!! we're taking a break from our usual Guilty Gear and hoping in a time machine back to 1997! I recall being veeeeery into the demo of Bloody Roar, for a bit; a fighting game that lets you transform into various super-powered anthro animals, can't imagine why that was appealing :P Lets see how it holds up!

Week 8! I was comming down off a PTSD flair up , and whole lot of stress, so decided to just take it easy this week. Just a glass of wine and some straight forward online matches with a familiar character and see how we do :) I like that Guilty Gear is kinda becoming a comfort-game for me :)

This week, we're taking a break from Guilty Gear for a field trip to see what things are like in another fighting game; MORTAL KOMBAT 11!!! We've not played a MK game since MK2, and still vividly remeber the moral panic around the original. How much can it have changed? Will we be as horrified by modern gore as our parents were? Will any of our old tricks still work? Lets find out together!

Week 5! Not gonna lie, we're struggling! We're backfighting online and getting beat down XD We're learning though! even if it is slowly. I'm getting to grips with blocking and combos are comming more reliably, once I can get them started. We've hit a steep learning curve. but not hit our limit yet! XD

Tarot slot machine
I was super tempted to go full-on slot machine with it, buuuuut I think i've going to be a more more reserved. Now, if I could find a Helluva Boss tarot deck, that would be a different story; That vibe wouldjust go too well with the 'crazy occult slot machine' look XD

oh god bloody roar is such a nostalgia trip fr, grew up with it but deffo couldn't play it to save my life.
Glad I saw this before getting past the design stage of my own cyberdeck project. my original plan left me wanting to add more and see some things I can change like adding the bars for screen protection
holy cow im blown away. nice work! :D
nearly had an orgasm just looking at the thumbnail
This is really cool! I'm getting a Raspberry Pi 5 for my b-day and I am thinking about making it into a cyberdeck :)
PDF for the print model? (For the shell)
The STL files to 3D Print the case can be found over at cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/cyberdeck-case :)
This is amazing! Immediately takes me back to my shadowrun days. I will have to attempt this when I get a hold of a new printer
Oooh! if you do make a build based on this design, send me a pic? I'd love to see how it comes out :D
This cyberdeck is so well designed and looks so cool that I just got joy and satisfaction from only looking at it. And it gives accociations with technologies from alien universe. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks so much! It really means a huge ammount to hear that people like my deck :D It was a very "form follows function" design process, which really seems to have worked out :D
very cool.
Most innovative cyberdeck I've seen to date. I love the use of the rail for adding other components (like the flipper0). This is a very professional looking build with many use cases (from my PoV). I'm checking out the build log and write up on Hackaday now with plans for potentially developing a derivative solution. Thanks for sharing this. Kudos on you :).
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is amazing. Well done!!

Nice matches! got some wins under your belt. I am with you on Chipp... He could take a chill pill. Team of 3 just came out this week so you are right, it wans't there before. you can play with other players on a team. is a bit weird at first but it can be tons of fun.
I'll definitely have to give "Team of 3" another go. I can see it being a lot of fun, I just need to get my head into that groove when i'm less tired 😅
Seeing people make cyberdecks is so cool. I really wanna make one myself when I get the money.
It's a really fun project to tackle, and lets you get to know your tech in whole new ways. Feel free to reach out if you need any pointers! :D
Really cool, gave Me a few ideas. I've been looking forward to building a cyber deck in a similar form factor
oh awesome! Check out the links in the video discription, if you want want a better look at it. Those write-ups also have links to the 3D models for the case, if those would be useful to you. I'd lve to see what you make, if you want to share when it's done :D
where can obtain estro noodl? asking for very un-cis reasons
hehehe, They feature in a lot of my cyberpunk art XD I would not recomend eating the ones in the pics as they're mainly plastic. If you wanted to make your own prop though , here's the design I made for the carton: drive.google.com/file/d/1rSwSRf553VXP75kVFjPWCjfsIyARxno7/view?usp=sharing
glad to hear you are feeling better! I also started playing at the beginning of this year and it has been quite a ride! a suggestion for next time, lower some of the in game sounds, it is very loud and hard to hear you in the middle of combat :(
Thank you! I've just moved all my streaming stuff to a different computer and didn't have a chance to properly test everything. I'll give it all a more serious shake down this weekend and hopefully that'll get it back on track :D
Imagine something like this with a framework main-board or the guts of a used mac mini
@botbot3698 I'd like to build another one with a framework mainboard, when my budget allows for it. From what I've seen of the specs, it should fit easily with only minimal modifications to the case design.
@GarrWolfdog that's awesome! I'm looking forward to it
brilliant! Lots of things I appreciate about this. I've been messing with this sort of thing for a while, using a quest 2 instead of nreal airs (I see you got into it before they were xreal as well?). My question for you is; how do you use hdmi to connect your airs? I've always assumed they need to use a dp over usb-c interface; do you have a rad converter of some sort? Cheers!
Thanks so mcuh! :D I use a HDMI to USB-C dongle to connect nreal/xreal HMD. You'll need to find one that can also supply USB power though. This is the one I use www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B09LGVNXPK Anything that can supply 5v USB power will work, I usually use a spare powerbank :)
This is such an adorable game!
Excellent. Thank you
Are you intending to do this entirely from scratch?
"from scratch" is kinda where i'm at, right now. I'm not opposed to getting info and tips from elsewhere, but most of the places i've seen that list tips and combos and stuff assume a level of base knowledge that i'm kinda lacking, at the moment. It's all probably super obvious stuff, if you're familiar witht he genere, but i've got an almost 30 year gap in my experience with these games. So far a big part of this has been learning exactly what I don't know, and how to name it. If you know any good resources, or things I could try, let me know! :D
@@GarrWolfdog I would start with Sajam's UA-cam channel
@@skittlz111 Oooooh! thank you! I will definitely be checking them out :D

Looks like it's got some heft, makes a good weapon!
@nihilgeist666 it's not super heavy, but it's still about 2-3kg when fully assembled. Definitely "solid". Sometimes hacking involves technical finesse, and sometimes it requires hitting things a bit lump of plastic & metal XD
Is your name Rache Bartmoss and do you plan on crashing the NET with rogue AI

Gorgeous!! I would be totally starstruck if I saw someone walk in with this hahaha
That is not portable. A clockware uConsole is portable. That is a transportable self short range concussion weapon, that can pass as a cyber deck at the airport security.😂
plays testament? nah already a god tier player
I really liked playing her! though I feel I need to work out her play style more. I think "Zoner" means i'm the one who's supposed to be doing all the long range nonsense. Soooo, I think I need to get better at pulling off those moves more reliably XD
This one was cool. You should do more builds. I would watch them. Or videos of use cases, understand that actual use cases can run into issues.
I've got a couple of builds I was working on last year, but then my house needed a lot of emergancy repairs and I've not had access to a proper work space or my printers since last autumn. Hopefully tat will get resolved soon and I'll be able to finish a few of the projects :D
@@GarrWolfdog That is a bummer to hear. I hope it comes together for you. I have a Pi 5, monitor, keyboard and some other stuff I have been looking for ideas on how to pull it all together into something cool. I will be working in wood and metal, no 3d printer. I do have a laser cutter so we will see what comes of that.
@ShamanETM oooh! I'd love to see what you come up with! You can do some awesome stuff in wood and metal, but I'm no good with such things myself 😅
bro copied RA01
@@doodocinawhat's RA01?
ah! did some googling, and I see what you mean. Strangely not though. I was initially inspired by ZackFreedman's build from a few years back. and deck designs from like Shadowrun and such. but the RA01 is new to me; check the linked build log, if you want to see my design proccess.
Do you have a Etsy store? Is there any way you can print me some of those parts?. I'm very interested on making one
I don't have an Etsy store or anything at the moment, but I might be able to print some parts (once my printers are back upand running again). Although, THe case model files are free to use, so it might be easier and cheaper for you to take the files to a printing service close to you and get them to print it for you; they'll likely be able to help with the finishing and stuff too :)
@@GarrWolfdog thank you. If you could make a follow up video on how to assemble it that would be great 👍
@@carlosc3899 I've been thinking about doing that, but my house is kinda a huge mess at the moment due to some house repairs. So, it'll be a while before i'm able to. coolest cyberdeck i've ever seen. it's bonkers that something so cool-looking is also practical for real-world use! the picattinny rails actually made my jaw drop, what a great idea, especially with the flipper... amazing job on this
Currently building this based on your design! Thanks for sharing it <3
That's so cool! I'd love to see your build sometime if you're up for sharing :) If you have any questions about my one or anything that I can help with, feel free to ask :)
@@GarrWolfdog Definitely will do <3 Hoping to finish up a good chunk of it this weekend, but it's been pretty easy to work with so far! I wanted something I could use that's functional for Neotropolis / a cyberpunk LARP and just love the design you have laid out, so it's been good to just run with it and only tweak minor things.
This is the first cyberdeck that I really like! Good job!! x3
This really is the coolest cyberdeck and after doing a bunch of research, imo the best I've seen in terms of fitting the cyberpunk aesthetic! I really want to edit the designs to fit my own project dimensions so I've been slowly recreating the STL files in OpenSCAD, I'm currently finishing up the body Piece but I'm not sure on your measurements for the mounting holes in the bottom, your hackaday page mentions they're designed for use with most SBC being able to fit in them but I was curious on why you chose those specific ones (58 and then 47 mm differences on one axis, 49 on the other), if there's a standard you were following for example? Either way I love your work and would be happy to share my code as soon as I'm done if you'd like!
Thank you so much! :D I based the hole placements on the mounting holes on a raspberry pi; as that's what I had handy, and it would mean most RPI accessory boards would also be easy to mount. And a lot of the other SBC I've seen also use the same spec, ornclose enough to be workable. If I was to make a v2 of the case, though, I'd probably put effort into researching that 😅 I'd love to see how your build comes out and what mods you make, if you'd be ok with sharing when its done? :D
Hello! I know this video is a bit old, but I was wondering if you could give me the links to all of the parts! I want to build one because it is SICK! especially the touchpad, screen, cable extenders, handles, and rollbars, as I can't find anything that might work.
Heya! Thanks so much! There's componant list on my hackaday project log. if you drop any of those item names into amazon or aliexpress it should give you suitable compinants : hackaday.io/project/191858/components This is the same modle of touch as I got: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001CX85I8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 if you open up the case you can then just take out the touchpad itself and remount it. The rollbars are just cupboard door handles. If you search for "U-shape cabenet handles" it should give you some good options. these are the ones I used: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MR5U43D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I can't find the link to screen anymore, but search for "8.8inch 480x1980 screen" on aliexpress and you'll get a bunch of suitable options. For the I/O pannel, just earch for "<connector you want> pannel mount" and you'll get options withe the right screws and such. Depending on the exact componants you can get hold of, you may need to modify the design slightly. but most of those mods will be on the frontpannel of the case, which is just a rectangle of plastic, with cut-outs, that bolts to the main chasis, so it should make any mod fairly easy in simple CAD software. Hope that helps! feel to buzz me with any questions though :)
@@GarrWolfdog Thank You so much!!!
@@GarrWolfdogI’ve finally gotten a good printer! I have most of the case printed, and I am wondering, how did you connect the case parts together?
@@PARADOXzss I used "Gorilla Glue Epoxy" and it's held up great s far :D
@@GarrWolfdog Okay! Thank you for your help so far! I'll send you a link to pictures of the finished thing when I can! (And hopefully it'll be as good as yours)
100% able to hack the Gibson. 10/10
Hey, do you have more information on your HMD? It looks to be 3d printed?
Heya! it's an Xreal Air HMD. the Xreal Air can eitehr be used like a regular par of glasses or with a black-out cover that clips on the front. So I 3D printed a new black-out cover that looks a bit more cyberpunk. Its a model I downloaded from somewhere and modifuled to attach to the HMD, but sadly I couldn't find where I got it from to credit the original creator.
This is so cool! I've been looking at making a setup for my current split keyboard that uses a fold out mechanism, did you ever take this further? Would love to know more!
Thanks! I ended up abandoning the project in the end. The keyboard "folding" mechanism worked well, but I couldn't get the rest of the build as sturdy as I wanted. There was going to be a screen that slid down so it could be used like a tablet, but then if you tilted the screen up, the keyboad would pop out from underneath. I might revisit it at some point. This mechanism worked nicely, at least, so it could be good for another project. This is as far as the prototype got: photos.app.goo.gl/Z3GBYTGyfY9qm9pu9 photos.app.goo.gl/AG2sP7BM9UvdFwag7 I'd be happy to share the 3D files for the mechanism if you'd like to take a look for your own projects :)
@@GarrWolfdog Ah it's a shame you couldn't use it for that project, I hope you're able to find a new one to use it with because it looks like it's very smooth design otherwise. I'd be very interested in seeing the 3D files if you're willing thank you very much! I think I know how I can tweak them to fit my build and if you like I can keep you updated if I do make a working prototype and have any findings?
@@AuroraCurios here's the file files, Hopefully they'll make some sense: drive.google.com/file/d/1MS5OXpMOgMAKC714nqXXqDeVeYUgfblY/view?usp=sharing I used small, 2,5mm screws to hold it all together, and 15x21x4mm bearings for the axle bit. I'd love to see any build you incorperate it into, if you feel up for sharing! :D It's a shame the overall build didn't work out, for me, but I learned alot from the process, so defintiely not a total loss :D
@@GarrWolfdog This is so helpful thank you so much ^_^ I will defo be letting you know how it goes and if I change anything, might be a hot sec though as I'm doing a lot of things for this one (funnily enough it's a cyberdeck idea I've had) so I'll let you know!
