McKeever Hills XC Ski Trail, U.P. Michigan - 2024-12-26
Conditions at McKeever on Boxing Day. A lot of those annoying beech leaves in the tracks and whatever it is those pine trees are exploding. Some new snow would help but there's about 8" here so can't really complain. I did all 11km of the trails yesterday and overall conditions were pretty good. Tracks were set on A and B. C was rolled and plausible; despite the warning sign advising not to ski C alone, I was the second person to do it!

Just a normal day out driving in my neighborhood in the UP. My dashcam catches me almost hitting a bald eagle. And some other fun things.

Skating wild ice in Cincinnati, Ohio is a very rare treat that Chris and Matt were not going to miss! This was taken before I really got warmed up (I'm still in my orange jacket) and before I got used to the tricky surface. That's my excuse for looking so stiff. I got a lot better by the end of my 23km! Matt brilliantly put on a smooth skating masterclass from the start!

1km of rollerskiing in southern Ohio. Just me doing my normal rollerskiing. I'm not bragging about the speed, just trying to give an idea of what a non-pro pace looks like.

Probably best not to watch this if you don't want to get motion sick. Also, don't ride a bike in the snow or in icy conditions because it is quite dangerous. If you must do it, get some spiked tires, discussed here:xed.ch/b/2019/0423.html . Actually, best to not ride a bicycle at all these days. Better to take up a safe hobby like smoking cigarettes or restoring antique loaded guns.

Should have given more details, Like Game settings for example.
Any plans to open source the project?
Well, having carried the hypercracker tool around for years and used it in plenty of 'creative' ways, I recommend using it in the bike frame as the manufacturer intended and just pad the frame-tool contact with a piece of wood, a plastic tire lever, a sandal...whatever you have at hand. No need damage your frame! The main reason for this opinion is that if your cassette lockring is loose enough to remove in the fashion shown in this video, then it is too loose to function correctly for long. (Watch how tightly they crank on the lockring at a good bike shop!) If not tightly secured the lockring WILL loosen up while riding, and you will start to notice poor shifting that can't be adjusted with the cable - because the problem is loose cassette cogs. Eventually you will start to hear rattling cogs on rough terrain. For home use, just get a chain whip and cassette tool. Worth it on the first install, $20 busck or so...
I've always found the prescribed way a pain and agree it puts a lot of pressure on the stays. I just found this video and it spared me having to give up and go to the bike shop. Thanks very much - top result.
Ok, everyone, I thought it was obvious, but Ron is describing how to use this tool as designed. I'm showing the more experienced (impatient) way. It's a good point though that even if you're in the middle of Death Valley, you can still use this tool all by itself to do the job as Ron describes. I just consider it a pain to put in and take out the wheel an extra time. As far as damage, I'd rather take my chances on the cassette teeth on wood than the Hypercracker on my stays.
Um, while I'm a big fan of hitting things with rubber mallets, that's not how you use that tool. What you've got there is a Pamir Hypercracker, which is designed to remove the cassette all by itself. Remove the wheel, put the tool into the lockring, and replace the wheel. Now pedal forward. The tab on the tool will contact the seatstay, and the lockring will back out. You don't need to wreck your cassette teeth on a guardrail or beat your tool with a rock.

Nice video. It's interesting to see how fast and at what speed you were traveling. What programs and equipment did you use to create this?
HD?
Thanks for that!! I've been wondering about this...
I bet your mother is sorry she ever doubted you.
Bravo!!
