Hello. My name is John and I live in Moray, Scotland. I have created this channel in order to share my love of my country and the beautiful scenery it offers, hoping to appeal both to those who live nearby but would like to see familiar places from a different perspective and also to those who may be in other countries and are interested in what Scotland has to offer. My content isn't exclusively drone footage but is mostly!
My current drone is a DJI Mavic2 Pro but I have content here from my earlier DJI Phantom 3 Std.

Torvean Caravan Park, Inverness, September 2024

Three days in Inverness with the caravan to Torvean (pronounced 'torvane') Caravan Park. We know Inverness well, as it's only 45 miles west of home but this was our first time at the caravan park for Margaret and me and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was beautiful and I was able to fly the drone several times to capture the 3 swing bridges in action. The Caledonian Canal links Fort Willi...

Loch Ness Shores is a site operated by the campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk at the lochside village of Foyers on the SE side of the loch. My wife and I took a 3-day break away with our caravan and as you'll see from the video, the weather was perfect! The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and we could not find fault whatsoever with anything! We will be back!

A virtually unedited video from Sunday 19 May 2024 in Aberdeen for my first ever ride for this excellent cause. The main part of the video was shot in the car park of the hosts, Shirlaws Motorcycles Aberdeen, as the bikes and riders were gathering prior to the ride out in the city. The later part of the video shows the bikes gathering by the old tram lines off Beach Boulevard. A great event!

Spynie Palace, also known as Spynie Castle, dates back to the 12th century. It is mostly in ruin, except for David's Tower on the N.W. of the site. I visited the palace over the Easter weekend 2024 and flew my Mavic2 Pro drone around the site, having ridden there on my motorcycle. I recommend visiting my friend Chris's website for the full information on the palace at: www.livebreathescotland.c...

This is my first attempt at a video with my wife and me in it, so please don't be too critical! This was our fourth visit to North Alves Holiday Park and I'm sure we'll be back there again, as the owners Lee and Sam are excellent hosts. The site is mainly 'seasonal static vans' with just a few pitches for tourers and tents. The main attraction for us is the variety of animals which are so frien...

This short video gives a quick overview (excuse the pun!) of a beautiful campsite just across the Kessock Bridge from Inverness. Kessock Caravan Park has only 10 sites for caravans/motorhomes but there is in addition, room for many tents. The site is on Drumsmittal Farm and sits amid lots of lovely trees, giving a feel of seclusion but not isolation! The toilets/showers are brand new and there ...

This drone flight took place over the Fort Augustus locks, part of the Caledonian Canal where it enters Loch Ness at the south-western end. In the video can be seen the River Oich flowing alongside. Towards the end of the flight, the hull of the ice-breaker tug Scot II can be seen, where it has been moored since being towed from the Isle of Bute where it had lain for many years on the shore. I am a strong believer that Scotland needs to become an independent country and join the other 200 or so other countries, making it 'normal'. This video was shot in July 2021 in 5 locations around Moray ... Buckie, Burghead, Cullen, Elgin and Hopeman, bringing public attention to the cause. My thanks to the Graham Brown Band for their music track 'Caledonia'.

The flight starts just up-river of the bridges between Fochabers on the east side and Mosstodloch on the west. The video ends where the river flows into the firth, with Spey Bay to the right and Kingston to the left. It is the second longest and fastest flowing river in Scotland. The river is famous f...
Dunnottar Castle and Stonehaven War Memorial

Dunnottar Castle is famous worldwide, which is not surprising considering the stunning location on a headland with only easy access from the west side. Most of the buildings date from the 15th/16th centuries. The castle lies approximately 2 miles south of Stonehaven. The War Memorial shown in my video lies less than a mile to the north of the castle. Plenty of information is available online fo...

@@DesmondsDonders David, I'm hoping the weather won't stop play but it might be Spring before the next part! 😜
@johnluckwelldroneenthusiast. Awhile since I flew. Grace is my excuse 😆
@@DesmondsDonders it's a good excuse!
Hi, Could anyone help out with some information about Kingston, Moray? I will be moving up to this area (moray) due to a job transfer. Can someone tell me the pros and cons (if any) about the area? I have been looking at houses in Moray, Cullen, Findochty, Portknockie and even further afield such as Aberchirder. I will be based in Mosstodloch, so a half hour commute would really be the limit. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Hello Colin. It's late, so I will try to reply properly to you in the morning. 😊
Thanks for sharing John Hope you are both well.
Nice smooth drone control John, was this recorded with the Mavic or Mini 3?
It was the Mavic, Lyall 😊
Thought as much John, I love the way they move.
Always associate Scotland with engineering. Travelled around Ireland a lot but not encountered a "swing bridge". Maybe forthcoming upgrade of River Shannon might feature one or two!! But who doesn't yearn for the romantic nostalgia of the ferryman, not sure Chris de burgh would have had the chart topper with swing bridge in the lyrics. Good job John, fascinating watch, nice music. Loved the barge pic. ❤
fascinating!! the bridges moved quicker than I would have thought.. we've invested in a microcamper, so will be having adventures next year , using your vids a tour guides!!
@@Joy_56 enjoy your campervanning Joy 😊
Great vid John, that was a you tube recommendation for me and very peaceful and enjoyable on this windy sunday afternoon. Jolly decent of them to operate all 3 bridges just for your video taking purposes, the car drivers may not share your appreciation. The 3rd bridge opening was spear headed by a duck who must have felt very honoured at the respect shown to him...or her...and will later be recounting his/her adventure in their duck pub later. Quite a slick operation I thought, unlike the level crossing shutting at Billingshurst when they close the road 5 minutes before the train comes through (it's probably late so they have no choice.) Thanks John, I enjoyed that.
@@williamclough6850 Glad you enjoyed it Will 😊
Do I need to apply for any permits to fly drone over the SPEY River?
No, none at all. Where are you? I hope you liked the video 😊
Hi John, what a beautiful few days away for you both. Bit surprised to see the ducks, thought Nessie would of had them like croutons on soup. You were .just a bigger crouton, so bravely paddled. Years ago returning from a trip we went low level over Loch Ness and dropped a sonobuoy in hope of hearing Nessie doing her thing. She was very quiet that day. Great video and amazing weather.
Will, I've been called many things but 'crouton' is a new one! 🤣
Thanks John, loved it. Glen Affric for us with the same weather.
David, Glen Affric is amazing, especially if you're into waterfalls! 🙂
Thanks for the memories! 7 1/2 great years there (but far too long ago)! 24 Mar 1980 was the last time I flew XV244 (while it was still the MR1 spec).
Thanks Nigel ... I'm glad you enjoyed the video and with it, good memories. What was your role at Kinloss? I was Avionics groundcrew and spent most of my time at Kinloss on NMSU (RAF Findhorn!) I was there 1978 - 1990
@@johnluckwelldroneenthusiast. I was a pilot on 201Sqn 1977-84 so our dates overlapped. Sorry, you probably had to keep fixing the stuff I broke! I left the RAF in 1990.
@@nigel9903 I wonder if you know my near neighbour in Mosstodloch, who is a retired Sqn.Ldr Nimrod pilot from (I think!) the OCU. His name is Rob Wigham.
@@johnluckwelldroneenthusiast. The name rings a bell but I can't be sure. Got a feeling he arrived just as I was leaving and on 120/206 not 201.
I take it you had to gain permission to fly Here?
No, permission not necessary, as I flew outwith the base boundary. Findhorn Bay is now not restricted, as it was when RAF Kinloss was active.
Great footage of the Commando Memorial.
Thanks Kylie and I'm glad you liked it ☺️
Great scene at Buckie Harbour.

That’s a good view from your helmet cam.
We have never made it to Spynie. Not sure why. Enjoyed the ride home I have been working on Lindsay to get me on a bike again.
Glad you enjoyed the video David. Being on a bike is great therapy for the soul!
Another superb video, I love seeing the different perspective that the drone gives, and the ride back was a great addition, as was seeing you introducing the video. Hope we have lots of 'drone suitable' weather for you this year.
Thanks Joy! It has been a while since my last video, so it was good to get back into it again. x
I shall visit there this June. So different from my home here in Bangkok!

Hello Mr. Luckwell, is it possible to get in touch with you regarding a collaboration?
Hello ... what sort of 'collaboration' do you have in mind?
@@johnluckwelldroneenthusiast. I was curious if you would be interested in contributing some drone footage for a film. We don't have funding so there's not much budget, but maybe we could work out some kind of trade or affordable fee.

Hi John, just been introduced to your channel by my brother Will Clough. I He claims to know you. I am considering getting a drone, and you've done some great photography here. Will says you're the man to consult on this matter, so I may come back to you with questions. For example, I saw drones in action on Series 2 of Vigil and they could fire machine guns and drop bombs! I will keep looking, but I imagine you've spent quite a bit to get some first class cameras on your drones. Keep up the good work. Jim
Hello Jim. You might not remember but we have met! I only recently made contact with Will again and we had a lovely long video chat on Friday past. If you ask Will to give me your phone number, we can chat about drones! Don't give your number on here! Glad you liked the video. Margaret says 'hello' too 😊
Hi John, just found another of your videos, beautifully done and really good to see the shots of Forres too. Be in touch soon. Will

Hey John, what a coincidence, I get an ecard from you both at Christmas and for reasons I will explain soon I decided to look at Forres and look who appeared in my search !! Fab footage and brings back a lot of memories, never got to cross Findhorn Bay at quite such a leisurely rate. I hope you're both well and I will reply to your ecard soon. I was there at NMSU with the BAE Sytems CWP supporting the MK2 maintenance activities. Used to stay at the Ramnee Hotel. Living in Canada now. Sad about Kinloss.

Hi, I grew up in Cylinder from 1971. My family and I lived at Brookend for 10 years. We used to catch the school bus from outside Bessies newsagent shop to Hermitage Academy. My first proper job was at the Cylinder Hotel.
Hello Simon ... sorry for late reply, as not been on here for a while. I left home in Clynder in 1968 to join the RAF, so didn't really know anyone who moved there after then. @@johnluckwelldroneenthusiast. Yes Clynder was an amazing place to grow up in, unfortunately our old house, Brookend also burnt down. We used to wait for the school bus outside Bessie's shop and there was one day when there was snow and we hid behind the shop to get the day off school, happy days.
