As an old person I can confirm that “No backses no penny taxes”- something people actually said (mostly for not giving up a place in line after cutting at the cafeteria- or no giving back something “earned” on the playground from a bet, ie one of those good pencils you get at the library) was a signature key and peele line from the “man up” sketches on mad tv.

Sometimes what seems like the dumbest movies, like Gremlins 2, are portraying a much deeper meaning, in this case, about satire, anarchy and corruption in business especially Hollywood and also society in general. The first is a classic horror comedy with no really big deeper meaning. The deepest it goes is the cringe worthy santa in the fireplace expostition. Gremlins one is a better movie. but gremlins 2 did something brave, that ultimately never slows down and is actually sticking 2 fingers up at hollywood by making something unique and not a rip off of Gremlins 1. Would you really want something along the lines of A nightmare on elm street part 2? or something really original. Sure i find this video funny but the fact they perhaps cant look behind the gremlins wacky personlaities shows a certain lack of intelligence as it still sounds and feels like a gremlins film with the same actors, even with horror at times, and jump scares. Meanwhile noone complains about Batman vs Superman or Man Of Steel??!?! A straight rip off of an original movie can often be much worse as is the case with those movies, the same could have been said for a straight forward sequel to Gremlins. Gremlins 2 is certainly no Batman and Robin.

I genuinely think Gremlins 2 is a fun movie, it’s the type of manic ADHD film that a 5 year old version of me fell in love with. What if instead of imagining himself as Clark Gable in the first movie, Gizmo idolizes Rambo? It’s in the movie!!!
