Building a Roll Cage for the Honda Talon
We spent some time custom fabricating a roll cage for the '22 Honda Talon to replace the factory cage; which is of questionable durability.

Dissecting Honda Talon R Shocks

We pulled down the stock Fox 2.5 shocks on the 2022 Talon R (non Live Valve) to replace the existing coils with Shock Therapy springs and check the stock valving for future modifications. We are certainly by no means shock experts, just stupid enough for our own good.

Way to wide and you didn’t have it in the ground is this supposed to be a joke
put some shoes on.
One comment, 150hp for a 13' chisel plow? I can pull my 12' with shovels with my 62 horse oliver. Grabdfather in law does a 20' with his 80hp deere. Both are 2wd.
That is awesome. Would like to see the finished project. My wife and i are buying a 4 seater talon. I'm not sure how close you are to central NY, but i would love to have a caged built.
Can I have a utv
Beautiful build man, really digging the center console. simple and effective.
One additional question for you. Does the air horn cover come off the intake baffle without cutting? Bolt or snap off? Thanks.
Nice, simple approach. I've spent the last few days evaluating all of the different schemes/products out there and each have their own warts. Be it complexity, cost, interference, noise - every approach had something that felt like a compromise to me. This approach however is German Shepard simple. Love the usage of the Honda engineered sound baffle manifold (noise, check). Love that it's still under unaltered covers (no cutting/alteration, check). Love that with 4 pop pins I can get into service the filter (easy access, check). Love that it's not consuming my limited trunk area or requiring power to run (complexity/interference, check). Totally KISS. There is nothing wrong with Honda's air filtration system - it's top notch. What they lack is exactly what you've suggested. All that's missing is a Honda built access door and a manifold pre-filter option.
Great video. I’ve got a new 2023 1000R and want to put in ditch lights and a light bar. I was gonna use a Polaris power distribution bar. Where did you get the switches and do most switches fit the blanks in the dash or are they proprietary to Honda only. Many Tks.
Not Proprietary. Pretty standard snap-in rocker switch size.
@@WhiteCollarRedneck Tks for that info. I wasn’t sure.
I’m looking for one now, 2024, can anyone chime in on approximate cost for a used 2019 over, let’s say a 2022 or 2023? Have they depreciated anything like a car or are they holding value. Assume they are clean machines. Just trying to gage value. There is a used 2019 here and a dealer has a used 2023. Tks
Not as easy as it looks getting the clip out.....
Please do an update on this when you service it.
I’d love to see the full unedited video from the talon. There is no video online of someone pushing a talon that had on dunes
chisels do not work well in sod. run disc over to brake sod up. the chisel will aureate soil
i had lely big skank, pull with IH 2+2 350 hp 11 shank pull 12 mph. fast is what you need. that looks like i NICE chisel
Just from the thumbnail, tractor is not only too small, it's like 100hp too small
Buys the biggest Toyota truck you can get. Puts an American flag on the back window...
I have the 2019 1000X, and I actually like the rawness of the gear shifts. These Talons ride stiff, and just feel “tight”. Great for high speed driving, however they do lack the softness, and plushness on a slow ride. It’s also VERY hard to not be jerky on the throttle, when riding it slow, over rough terrain. Those are truly my only complaints. I absolutely LOVE my machine!
Nice job.
It's all in the tires 😊
Drivers and non drivers 😅
Curious on the control arm setup.
Rubicon express long arm
@@WhiteCollarRedneck so I can use stock control arm mount brackets?
@@gk_sofresh9917 we reinforced the stock axle control arm bracket and built the lower shock mount into it.
@@WhiteCollarRedneck I’ve got some more questions about the setup, can’t find anyone willing to help, is there a way I can message you outside of the comments?
Hello, Are you interested in testing our products? We would like to invite you to test the Rear Windshield for your Honda Talon R 2019
It's called a cultivator
I pull a 7 shank with my 6610 and it does ok. I really like pulling it with my brothers old JD 130 hp. Love the power.
U can’t plow virgin soil with that! Lol. Tractor is a little small too but if it’s flat and already been broken up the yr b4 you’d be fine
Any luck with shims?
Thats not a chisel plow .
The smart and dumb 😅
i know this is an old video. hope you get this. what brand and where did you get the schrader valves. a link would be great.
I got the ones in this video from Schmidty Racing I believe. www.schmidtyracing.com/Nitrogen-Reservoir-Schrader-Valves-p/n-shr.htm
do you have a pipe bender if so what kind of
It’s Custom built with an Air over Hydraulic jack and using a ProTools Die
did you guys ever revalve them talon shocks? Would love a update as I own a 20 talon r and HATE the ride..
Too BIG.
How much stretch did you achieve on the front?
Wheelbase stretch or axle travel? They are 12" coils directly mounted to the axle, so it gets near 12" before it starts to bind up on the trackbar. Probably 2 or 3 inches more if you articulate one side vs the other based on the coil location compare to the tire.
@WhiteCollarRedneck sorry I meant Wheelbase. Thanks for the info
Im retired steamfitter/welder..love your fabrication..and the shop!!!!

LSK came out with a kit for the Talon that looks really similar to the one you build here now. Really considering there setup
Need a 5 shank or a a lot bigger tractor
Doing this this week. 3800 miles on my X4 Talon. Zero nitrogen left from hard riding. Hoping this makes a huge difference. If not spring kit will be next
You guys are awesome. Wish I could rip around with you guys!
Chisel plow is to big you need a tractor 🚜 at less a 100 hundred horse 🐴 ⛮ power l used to Chisel plow with a 9600 Ford tractor 🚜 135 horse power that is what you need.
Not enough tractor my friend
You need a LOT of tractor to pull that plow!
I think it make a better field cultivater.
Was always told 10hp per chisel at the minimum
Nice video. Thinking about taking my tj out there. How many miles of trails do you think a tj on 33 could handle?
Everything but Red/Black. Maybe not some of the blacks if it rained and you don’t have lockers.
So it's mid-September here in AZ and having warmer weather is an understatement. Just wondered if you've had time to try any new valving? I got the "we know just what you need" treatment from ST, so went with Weller. I told Weller I wanted it to ride like a 1973 Olds 98 on the softest setting. not sure they've ridden in one? The suspension is definitely softer, but they didn't get to the '73 Olds level. We've ridden it 1500 miles, almost entirely on the softest setting. Once, I sneaked the setting up to #2 when my wife wasn't looking. In about 3 minutes, she said "Did you stiffen up the shocks? This is too stiff for me." When i asked Weller, they said they put in the softest of the shim sets they use in an R. They also said they don't use the dual-rate shim stack (flutter shim).
That's barely scratching the ground, need a bigger tractor.
Hey im new to the sxs world and im trying to see how i need to splice the key on power. Do you splice it into the fuse box or to the relay and how. TIA
Starting around 2:05 you will hear the Hess Override switch we installed has a key power piggy back connection in the harness. You could also cut and splice in a heat shrink butt connector with a new wire. We would only use the key power to trigger a relay coil and not feed directly off the key power.
So I also have run 8ga from the battery to under the hood but I haven't hook anything up to it yet. My concern is when I put the fuse block in and connect the 8ga wires, won't that make the fuse block hot all the time? How did you get it to be key on block? I heard you say on the hess plug there's a key on piggy back but, did you run from that plug to the fuse block? Just trying to figure it out.
