Comfortable Car Club
Portugal
Приєднався 4 сер 2020
The Comfortable Car Club exists because I own a Citroen C5 X7 Tourer, a car made for going around in comfort. Hence, my predilection for a compliant ride, but I also aim to help other C5 owners if there's something I find out about the car that may be obscure or useful. I also like to get good fuel averages. If possible, I'll talk about other car-related stuff as well.
Thanks for watching.

Car Ownership: How it's about to get a lot worse
Переглядів 23 тис.Місяць тому
Car ownership used to be more or less straightforward: You'd buy a car, keep it in good fettle and eventually sell it or scrap it, and that would be that. However in the 21st century, things got a little bit more complicated because, as you can’t just fix it with a 13 mm spanner and some gaffer tape. You needed a fancy scan-tool to plug into the car just to see what’s wrong. That's bad enough a...

Who doesn’t like concept cars? From the zany and outlandish, the sleek and superb to the downright weird, concept cars show the extremes of the automotive world. The Volvo S60 (P2) | An unjustly ignored masterpiece
Переглядів 9 тис.2 місяці тому
I've been trying to make this video for more than a decade, when I actually owned the car in question. The original S60 (or P2 S60, which was the name of the platform it was designed around) was, along with the S80, the car that cemented Volvo's shift away from the boxy looks that had characterised its cars for the previous couple of decades. But it was so much more than that. Lovely car-themed...

I Bought Cheap S t Online For My Car
I had a 1.1 Ax and loved it. With the backseat down i carried all kinds of stuff ( i was renovating my house at time). Easy and fun to drive in town ( i can remember a friend asking to me: "is it a sport car, a gti or something?"). I also remeber the day i had to drive to the airport a friend who was late to catch his flight: 130 km in less than a hour. And like you said: ecnomic and very reliable. I have to confess i don4t taxke much care of my car, and this one made a lot of km with insufficient oil or water. When i had to abandon my car the guy of the garage asked me: "does the motor work?", " of course, how do you think i came?" " well, it's surprising since the injection system is burned and melted".
I hope people realise holding and owning tangable items like cash, dvds, cds, newspapers, birthday cards etc brings a sense of freedom.
I agree with all.
32bit Win7 with no antivirus and no internet. Passwords are in a file on the DVD. Sorted.
My parents own one, and I love it. It's a 2012 Tourer Exclusive with a 1.6L petrol, and not a single problem in the 2 years we've owned it already. Sadly doesn't have the hydropneumatic suspension, but it's still more than comfortable, even on long road trips. Kinda wish it had it though, would help a lot with towing my parents' caravan. But still a phenomenal and underrated car, and still loving it to this day
Auto gearbox? It's a solid car. I'd love one myself, diesel is a bit unrefined! Thanks for the comment
@ no, it’s a manual. Also diesels and V6s are sadly more expensive to own in my country, which is one of the reasons we have a petrol instead
In a previous video you also said your father had an Ami 8, and also did my father. He had a 1969 model with the 2CV engine and he owned it for 20 years straight. After that he also ha a Visa 11 Re, from 1985.The family hasn't owned any other Citroen ever since, here in Portugal, but we sure are Citroen enthusiasts. 👍
I try today and take down the light because the reading lights in front and in the back not working, but I have one cable just for the central lights but not for the sides, what is to do in this case?
@@baleacosmin99 hello. What model is it? If it doesn't have those two cables, it's possible that the car wasn't equipped from the factory to have the reading lights. Check the manual, it might say something there
@comcarclub Hey is a c5 2010 model combi
@baleacosmin99 is it a base 1.6hdi? Are there cables in the front and not the rear? That seems very strange, C5s were very well equipped
@@comcarclub yes is 1.6 diesel and come just with center cable
@@baleacosmin99 according to the 2010 manual, you should have reading lamps. Have a look or a feel inside the headliner
I had a Citroen Xsara estate which kinda looked like the original C5 from the front & I had that car for 11 years best 1K I ever spent, when I were looking at cars to buy again recently I looked at these but ended up with a C4 picasso which I kinda regret now not that its given me any grief at all but a late C5 I think would have been a better bet. To many channels promote German brands & in their day they stood for quality but not any more as they have just as many issues as other brands these days, lets face it 90's Mercs started to get shoddy & they've got worse over time, sure they might be fast but should something go wrong repair bills are huge.
I have a 2007 s60 with the 2.5T engine and automatic transmission. I'm a engineering student in the US and I hope to keep the car for a long time. Bought it with only 100k miles, 1 owner who worked for the Volvo dealership. Cleanest 18yo car ever.
You are so, so right. I think the best level of electronics is what cars had back in the 1990s. Great channel, by the way.
@@MS-yy2dh thank you very much indeed!
I also like the V60, but I have to say prefer the practicality of the V70. I have owned the same 2002 V70 from new. It is now on almost 200k miles. I have also owned a 1994 850 from new that is on 222k miles. These are very durable cars if well maintained in my experience. I do as much maintenance and servicing myself as I can. I also owned a Volvo 244 for about 30 years and covered over 300k miles in that.
Wow! I had a 1994 850 estate as a loaner for a week and it made me want to buy one.
Cheers mate, hope you continue to improve and gain more subs. For anyone that has a C5 your channel is a must sub! Saved me quite a few times with doubts and learning overall about this car
Thanks for the kind words!

Very interesting approach!Just a question from a non specialist: Is there any chance to install electric tailgate in the c5 from scratch? (my 2009 sedan c5 has not).I saw for sale at aliexpress, but is this possible?Thank you in advance.
I really don't know for sure. In theory, yes, but you would have a lot of wiring and reprogramming to do.
Will the buttons on steering wheel work?
Depends on the head unit.
Upcycling is always a good idea! Especially when you’re using German UHU glue (an eagle owl is an Uhu in German). Yesterday I packed my navigation stuff and cables in a square Tupperware box that I found in a charity shelf in my neighbourhood. The gear fits perfectly in the box and the box perfectly under the driver’s seat. So: two clowns, one idea! 🤡🤡 Thanks for this video and see you soon on your channel. Bye »»» Martin 😊
I did something similar back in the day, but it involved a drill and suitcase, never again!
Hugh Laurie called a mike shield a "spoffle". I think that deserves to be used more widely.
That is real ecology
I drove a 90 for a while. Cramped, slow, noisy, uncomfortable, thirsty, crap A/C, unreliable and no, I hated it.
Thumbs up 👍
We can do more on our own than we think… The cap of the radiator (Citroën C1) was broken. I replaced it with a 35 mm film container. 😊 Thanks for the video, Senhor CCC. See you on your channel »»» Martin
I have C5 also... i've just finished small service as we call it (change oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and cabin filter) I think i hear camshaft noises, but that one is hard to do by my own without garage. Still I m watching videos trying to figure it out on my own 😂
@ 👍🚗🇫🇷♥️👍
There are some nice custom-cut mats that I have in my C5, a fasionable diamond plate pattern. I think I got a set for about £25
Do you mind if I ask where?
Don't have a farm, but I do have a winter from time to time and don't like my feet taking a bath while I'm driving, thus I do not like rubber mats.
I'm not a fan either, regular carpets are much more welcoming. But rubber mats are so much easier to clean
Probably not a great idea to let me near a Stanley knife...
😂
Cool UA-cam, like you say why are car mats so dear , I remember looking for some for a jaguar xe they were £120 , and now I have a Mazda mx5 they are £150 ?. Some after market ones on eBay were £175 for the Mazda mx5 which is only 2 mats but for a 4door car 4 mats they £145 for the same thing ?. Going back to you UA-cam brilliant they do the same job , and let's face it no one gets in your car and says nice mats lol .
As a 21 years old guy in Germany and a BMW head, born and raised around BMWs since birth. First family car I remember is the legendary E21. Now for my first car I decided to buy a 2001 S60 2,4 non turbo. Amazing, aesthetically pleasing and super comfortable. For anyone wondering it had one previous owner born in 1949 and all services done at Volvo. Great car. The Volvo S60 will soon start appealing to more youngsters and it will be driven by Gen Alpha for sure. It is an amazing, beautiful and definitely not a weak machine. The sound of the inline 5 is just incredible.
Oh wow! Great story, that's marvellous! Thanks for sharing
that part where you're talking over yourself is a bit hard to understand, you might need to work on your audio leveling a bit more
You're utterly right. My audio was utter s**t. I bought cheap microphone after cheap microphone in the hope just one wouldn't be absolute crud, because a decent microphone is hideously expensive. But I've invested in a decent setup, and hopefully you should be able to notice the improvement in the last couple of videos. The feedback is much appreciated.
To me, the epitome of the perfect car is the mk3 Caviller. An option for everyone reliable as a swiss watch and up 50 mpg from most of them. I also loved the Maxi as the best ever, but it really did lack the safety.
Mk3 Cavalier is a good shout, especially the hatchback IMHO, though the following generation is my personal favourite. Very balanced, good choice of engines and a lovely interior
What a marvellous video to watch! I've enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks very much, you are a wizard, mate. Greetings from Germany and from a great C5 Fan since 8 years. Cheers 😊
Thanks!!
Good day, i‘m thingking about buying a c5. Here in Switzerland, our market only has the bluehdi 180 or the 3.0 240 engines. What are your suggestions? Greets
Well, the Bluehdi 180 has the adblue, which can clog and cause issues, and can be expensive to replace. The 3.0 V6 is a big lump and working on that engine is tough. My mechanic says there a few instances where you can't fix things on the engine while it's in the engine bay, you have to drop it out. I think perhaps the bluehdi 180 will be less of a headache.
@ ok thanks for your advice! I‘d like to get the 2.2 HDI but there just arent any. It shall be the 180 then.
Oh for a comfortable ride and lovely velour seats that were soft yet well cushioned. I haven’t sat in a truly luxurious car for years.
FYI: Peugeot 508 has a different worm gear on the shaft, meaning this motor does not fit. Also can't find a replacement anywhere... guess i'm stuck with a winking car.
Thanks. I'll pin this in case other 508 owners see this. Which generation of 508, the 2010s one or the current one?
First generation prefacelift. Also worth mentioning mine has two connectors, 10 pin and 6 pin. It's a 2013 GT.
I know, all of "modern democratic" people hates this country. But watch the situation with EV in China. Why ttis commie can, but you can't? $14.400 for 60 kWh pack from tesla? In china you can buy NEW car for that price, with the same battery pack. Is someone still shocked, that Elon, the richest person in the world?
ha.....with all this work I've put into the GS, I don't have the heart to give it away or scrap it. It'll hurt me a lot if I scrap it. We even modify my friend's Xantia little by little, and even HE finds it hard to give it away. And all this with the state putting extra taxes and fees on old cars, just to make us get rid of them and buy new ones. Oh no dear state, you can't brake us just yet...😂
@@深い寝 keep it!
I’ll start before watching. Physical buttons, not touch screens. Colours other than those on the greyscale.
I've railed on so much against touch screens I hardly mention them any more so as to not constantly repeat myself. They're symbolise everything wrong with cars today: very snazzy-looking but ultimately a bad idea for driving. Much cheaper for manufacturers but a big cost for users if they go wrong, and can't be easily fixed or replaced at home.
@ Agreed. My 2003 MX-5 will be repairable for decades to come, but with every single function on a car these days being a “module” of some sort, once the manufacturers stop making the spare fontal collision module, or lane departure module, or the touchscreen, or brake assist module etc, these cars will be deemed unroadworthy, and god knows none of these modules are repairable in by way, and they will have to be scrapped.
For me I'm getting sick of everything on the road being massive might not be as bad in Europe but here in Australia everyone is driving SUVs 4x4s and 4x4 utes I just want a new car that doesn't have all the useless shit comes as a sedan wagon manual and auto rides well and handles well and has a reasonable build quality doesn't even need to be that cheap something like the 406 or xantia line ups with modern styleing (even thow I love how both of them look)and maybe hands free and android and apple car play and cruise control
I always loved the look of that later C5, like what you have. Is yours a Euro 5? I was put off them due to videos warning about them demanding a new DPF at 125k despite not being needed, and Elyos fluid. As a compromise I ended up in a Mondeo which uses the same Peugeot HDi engines but without elyos or the DPF change requirement. When that was written off, I bought another Mondeo, this time an estate. I think that era of car are the last ones that are relatively simple to work on compared to anything newer. Having said that, we once thought these ECUs would be the end of home repair yet tools have become commonly available and cheap enough for us to continue working on our cars. As for bodystyle, you can't beat a decent estate for space and comfort.
Yes, it's Euro 5 compliant. I've already had to replenish the eolys on this one but it's cheaper than cleaning the DPF as I had to do on the previous c5
Great vid, I agree on all points.
Cars dint understand my Texas axe cents neither..
You have no idea how long it took me to get that 😄!

Robert Downey Jr could stay out of fashion indefinitely.
I like him in the MCU
Great to see Portuguese blood with such great accent!
With that said I totally agree with you. It’s a seeking profit path manufacturers are chasing, unfortunately
I would like to see velour upholstery make a comeback. The seats in a 1990s Renault Scenic looked more enticing than the generic cloth seats in my 2018 Hyundai. Choice of colours is another thing. As the Dacia Sandero was mentioned in this video there are only a few choices available. Compare that to small cars of the 1970s it's disappointing. Would like to see compact saloons come back but I doubt there's a market for those any more. Something like the old SEAT Malaga but with a few extra creature comforts and safety kit. There's the Mazda 3 but that's quite a broad car now and costs £30,000.
1000% agree on everything, especially the velour seats. God, I miss them. Getting into a car during bad weather and feel that velour welcome you was magic
Idk I'm quite partial to the alcantara seats like I had in my nightmare of a ds3 sport
Do you have any Idea how we can make this compulsory viewing for car designers - and, more importantly, the public?
Well, one way is for these things to become very widespread, until a car maker took a punt and made a car in this way. Then it would be successful and cars would go back to being nice again
If I can ride a car for 4-6 hours and not be tired and shaken when I exit the vehicle, that would be great. Car ride comfort is incredibly underrated these days. There is something ironic about cars today being impossible to take care of yourself, but never has it been easier to obtain information on how to work on (older) cars through the internet. Imagine if we had UA-cam videos in the 1990s to show us how to take care of our cars.
I had a 2008 S60. I loved it. Now I have a 2012, even nicer if not quite as sprightly as I remember the 2008 being.
