Some of it's a little too simple like calling doctor love. He could have done more with that bassline.

Van Halen was a really probleme to these bands when they appears. Everyone would want to copy them.

Most of those licks could of been major hits and great back ground to compose a tune around. We need more bass in more tunes.

It was actually mostly a bass version of Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" to my ears. The riff was broken up but all that was missing was Page and Bonham and that classic Bonzo groove. Or am I tripping? Lol

So I've been researching this heavily and it seems in his favor he is able to write some catchy bass lines and back in the 70s when he was doing bass solos and stuff which can be seen on UA-cam he was actually reasonably proficient. Not a superstar, not a virtuoso but pretty damn good back in the day...HOWEVER now it seems he has HEAVILY regressed over the decades to the point where can barely play a scale or learn anything as kind of displayed in the Carol Bass Lesson video, he didn't know what was going on. It also seems he has simplified a lot of songs and made things easier and we don't even know IF he plays live anymore, there's my two cents anyway and yeah in this video he displays himself as someone barely at an intermediary standard.

I read a hilarious article where Gene says that Rush was opening up for KISS in the early days. I think it was Rush’s first album, but he says that he taught Geddy Lee some blues scales or something on bass. I’m like dude you really are starting to believe your own bullshit
