Lunchtime Seminar Michael O'Shea
Michaels' lunchtime seminar will discuss how print, through the appropriate use of materials, colour, format and techniques - and the relatable human connections these elements reference - can elevate the public’s relationship to a message and aid knowledge retention. Through personal projects and wider examples, Michael will explore how the unique nature of print can facilitate human-centred communication by helping to reflect lived experience

Can I use a u.v. grow light.
Thank you Steven. Brilliantly explained. You brought together some ideas and approaches that I’ve been developing in my own visual work. Inspiring.
I've recently started asemic writing out of curiosity after using it in a piece of my artwork and find it compelling though couldn't say why. I enjoyed this lecture very much, thank you.
Ouch, ha nnno. Go… ddd.. scr.
Great video. Very interesting to see how apparent randomness can suddenly settle into fabulous patters. Just wondering, (thinking about wall paper stripping by wetting the wall). if these papers get re-wetted the glue will absorb water and things could get messy?
Great! I love this! Thank you. What is the name of that blue tape you use for keeping the paper down please?
🎹 🖐 smashing CONCERTina X
I have no need for paper paste. I have never had an interest in paper paste. I will never use paste and I still don’t know what it is used for I was sucked in and watched the whole darn thing. 😊 I did watch it, though in anticipation of the blue tape to be removed and seeing the actual pieces… Regardless, it was interesting.
please look out for beings who are in the plant materials...
A beautiful film with beautiful imagery and words.
really cool stuff
Loved to see all these beautiful works. And the video, too!
Wonderful video! And a new use for my collections of potato mashers -- yay! I'm excited to get into my tools that I used for batik and deconstructed screen printing. Gotta love it when the stuff you already have gains a new purpose!
Keep it up Iftikhar Ali, an energetic scholar. Hope he will endeavour and contribute more new ideas and inventions into the field of material engineering. Hands up and crossed for ifti.
Keep it up 👍
You fell down a rabbit hole just like i did 😁
I don't want to see degenerate art.
This is mindblowing stuff. I really appreciate it!
Thank you for this beautiful film!
Can we use food colors?
Thank you for your time. yes it is inspiring. I like your presentation.
Amazing thank you!
I started the Artists Way Pages recently... and failed. I couldnt find meaning in anything I wrote, I felt the pressure to write something meaningful. Then I realised that linguistic meaning didnt matter... and in art and music I have found that making marks that are initially meaningless then find meaning in the subjective later viewing very therapeutic. Great lecture, thankyou.
Wonderful lecturer
Great
Wonderful interesting artistic work with these products it's a subscribe for me kk from nz kia ora
Watch the pigments you use. If you’re getting your hands wet in a water soluble paint, you are softening your skin and some pigments can be absorbed. It is a myth that oil paints are toxic. It was real turpentine that was toxic. So people assume water based is safe. It is LESS safe because of the above reason. Just know your ingredients. Also flour can attract insects or rodents to your books. They don’t seem as attracted to pure starch. Wallpaper paste has fungicide and sometimes an insect repellent. Wear nitrile gloves.
Language is so weird that it may be that all writing is fundamentally asemic. Religious and political pundits seem to be regular practitioners of asemic speech and writings. 🤣
Maravilhoso.. gratidão por esta aula ❤
Why do you mix a paste/binder in with the pigmented paint when the paint already has a binder in it?
It helps to keep it wet, viscous, and workable. Otherwise, the paint dries out too fast.
You wouldn't get the lucious, gloopy effects caused by the thick/thiness of the paint when it dries with just the paint binder,. Plus, I'm pretty sure not even an acrylic gel mediun would be as responive to the slightest mark making gesture. as these paste mixes but th efinal result would then be permenant.
Well done. I loved the handpan music in the background also!
This is a masterclass on paste papers. Thank you so much!
Great presentation with much food for thought!
I did semtic writing before I knew it was a thing...so interesting to hear about it and thanks for sharing your knowledge...Awesome!! øljnæ ojingødkhb åoiigjøadof øpokadøpgj !! 🥳🥳
Fantastic demo. Thanks so much for taking the time to be so thorough and informative!
Well done. Great tutorial. Appreciate the tips, storage, paper and all the steps towards a wonderful finished product. I’ll give it a go.
Hiii, there , can i have your business email or contact, i am also illustration artist from London,
What is the probability of mold or bugs? I mean, if you just added milk casein to the flour you'd be pasting with gravy glue as well as potato glue and wood cellulose glue... is this some of what attracts bookworms to old books?
In archival bookbinding, there are materials and methods used that reduce those risks. There's even bookbinding that doesn't use any adhesives at all. Most books only have these sorts of decorative papers inside the covers, not in the main book block which is the primary concern. 😊
The best tutorial I’ve ever seen on this subject!
I find it curious that asemic handwriting seems to have gained popularity at a time when the world in general is largely enamored with keyboards and computers.
My art has been based upon automatic creation of marks due to my neurological condition of Aphantasia. Whether ink drawings or painting, It is similar to channelling . I found this very interesting as I just started a new 12 month project of this form of writing and hey presto my UA-cam feed fills up with Asemic writing.
I have that ‘condition’ too.
Every now and then, your "asemic" wandering through UA-cam, throws up some gems. This was an utterly captivating lecture. The clarity of his thought process on a difficult subject like this, is exceptional. In my exploration of this field, no one has come through with such effectiveness, Thanks, Steven.
I loved it. Thank you❤
No credibility. Cake flour has no protein. That's the whole reason flour paste works at all, what kind of ignorant bullshit are you sharing?
A delightfully melancholic meditation on a particular type of rainy day. Visually the artists have done a beautiful job. As an aside, I love to see knitting (often so underrated by those who don’t knit) used in this clever and poetic way. My heart is touched.
Great video - thank you, Did you have a preference between the three types of paste?
that poor slug!!!!
This was an amazing vídeo. Thanks for share all those techniques 😊❤
Beautiful!
Fascinating! I've contributed to several WBN call outs since 2017 so good to catch up on the earlier projects.
