Yamaha outdated and super heavy.

Yamaha...because mercury is poop.

I always had Mercury although i did have a 100 hp Johnson in the 70's. No trouble until I bought a pontoon with a 50 hp 4 stroke Yamaha. After about 8 years the motor seized up(cracked block and bent piston). Had to replace it with a 115hp Yamaha. At least the controls were compatible. Hoping for better results with this one.

Does anyone else consider these as the “Kia” of bass boats? That’s all I hear. I personally don’t like the high seat position but that’s my only gripe.

Funny, my 2018 SHO has never been to the doctor for anything, I do all my own maintenance. Every single New merc owner I know has been to the shop for some kind of problem. A merc can’t be tuned for more power, my 200 sho is now a 332 with a simple tune, no new parts added at all. I had a lot of problems with my mercs in the past, and I will never own one again.

Yamaha for the win! I love my 300 and it literally never fails.

As a new Skeeter owner I love my FXR21. Phoenix is a great looking boat but I’ve always admired the Skeeter. The SHO is a beast of an engine. Owned a Ranger before this and have not looked back.

Dont forget you can actaully tune a Yamaha.. You can buy a 200HP Yamaha SHO and then buy a tune and boom, you have 330HP, reliable HP... Mercury cannot be tuned.. On the other hand the Mercury Sportmaster lower unit cant be beat for high speed prop surfacing applications.

Both these manufacturers make junk engines. Only Babcock & Wilcox will do.

It took Mercury 4 decades to catch up with Yamaha as far as quality and longevity is concerned. Yamaha was on all commercial boats until the past decade ,Of course Mercury was always faster.

Made in Japan is why Yamaha is more reliable. They have a concept called Kaizen which means incremental improvements every day to perfect the product, not drastic changes.

Skeeter it’s about to be 2025 stop putting helix graphs on your boats they are cheap and trashy get better. In bed with Johnson to sell their junk graph that costs nothing for them to make on 90,000 dollar boats. Have some pride

Yamaha dragged Mercury kicking and screaming into becoming more reliable by outselling them when boat owners got tired of spending so much on repairs

Mercury outboards are made in Fond du lac Wisconsin. In July they just laid off 731 people from the workforce that actually makes their outboard motors, not just management people. It is possible that Mercury is FTD (Fixing To Die) and go the way of Evinrude. Good luck with your warranty claims in years to come. Suzuki is now the top rated repower outboard.

Had both. Skeeter is a rough ride and phoenix spear waves.

Yamaha powers my lifeboat and can be retrofitted with capsize proofing. Both engines have been through some pretty tough weather and I've never had any issues

Both great boats with crappy trailers. Expect to make many repairs to the trailers. BassCat is the best overall “affordable” boat on the market.

You should have mentioned how each boat rides. From someone who has first hand knowledge on both Skeeter and Phoenix there’s NO Comparison…The Phoenix bass boat is the smoothest and most comfortable ride. If you want performance and best ride choose Phoenix!!

Nice video. But if you cover all bass boats. What boat under 20ft is the smoothest ride for a disabled person

Out of the two it would be the Phoenix but for ride Comfort ride security and speed neither one could never come close to a Bass Cat or ballistic

the profit margins on these are beyond ridiculou.. the consumer ultimately loses in this battle.

I believe the low warranty with Yamaha is due to it most likely not being used because they are so reliable

I owned a 2013 Skeeter FX20. I was in the market for a new boat and was seriously considering a Phoenix. The problem I had with the Phoenix was the lack of leg room in the console area. I was concerned that if I got in rough water, I would be banging my shins on the underside of the console. Otherwise they appeared to be nice boats, but that was a deal breaker for me. I ended up buying a Skeeter FXR20 and so far I have been happy with it.

Phoenix easy winner. Better ride, more speed, better handling, and just a better looking boat

Brands are like sneakers... one day, Nikki is the best until they have you hooked and then quality gose down hill... this happens to every brand, whatever the product... next week, it will be nitro

I have owned both and a Vexus. I now own a Phoenix. Unlimited color combos. Electronics of your choice. Power of your choice. Arguably a better built boat that doesn’t porpoise at lower speeds. Best customer service as well. Oh, and priced slightly less than a comparable Skeeter.
