That smaller black hand isn't the alarm, that's the calendar indicator. You can also see it on the dial, it goes from 1 to 31.

Pardon the unasked for criticism but It might help to be more specific and catchy with these video titles, mainly to differentiate what each vids about and the specific parts of restoration or preservation you're gonna delve into. Maybe even ask a question which the viewer, upon discovering would want answered by watching the video, yknow? it might help with views, as it can be hard to engage with a video like this especially considering how many have the exact same title on your channel, there's nothing that helps the other ones stand out in any way. Something as simple as the make/model or specific parts of it which really stand out that you go into detail with helps when people would look into that stuff specific, because when they look up "Clock restoration" they're bound to find the highest viewed videos first, but if they're looking for this kind of stuff specifically they'd be more likely to find it. This piece is absolutely phenomenal looking btw, insanely interesting stuff, thank you for taking the time to share this!

Mr. Perry, does the restoration of pieces such as these involve the use of hand tools, or is the use of power tools permissible provided any obvious signs that a power tool was used are removed?

Minor correction, I know Mr. Perry, being a student of history, simply misspoke when he stated that Aaron Burr was killed in his duel with Hamilton. Indeed, it was Hamilton who lost his life, and the resultant scandal sealed Burr’s fate as a somewhat unsavory character in American history. I think this treatment is unfair. For all his peccadilloes, he was universally considered an extremely generous man who took into his home and supported numerous children, a struggling artist and others. He often did so to his own financial detriment. He also fought for the abolishment of slavery, the franchise for women, and openly contended, to Hamilton’s dismay, that women are the equal of men intellectually and should be given the same educational opportunities as men. He was also most welcoming of non-Englishmen and the foreign born, again to Hamilton’s horror. And let us not forget that his skill as a soldier during the Revolution initially won him the admiration of his peers and of Patriots alike. However, Burr was well known to be politically self serving, not adverse to subterfuge, an atheist and a self-confessed sexual brigand. If he was anything, he was complex, and in my opinion, a far more interesting and compelling man to study than Hamilton who was, and I’ll be blunt, an authoritarian and proto -corporatist masquerading as some great scion of Liberty.

I've found that caretakers of historic sites tend to become very defensive whenever obvious flaws in their preservation strategy are pointed out. I have my own story of volunteering at an historic house museum. The BoD would have a hearty chuckle amongst themselves as to how often the preservation program at a nearby university would cite their ongoing enterprise as an example of what not to do with an historic building

What was the caging function for? Just security of the booze and paraphernalia? Surely they wouldn't keep money in there after closing? Seems like the daily proceeds would be taken and put in a safe or more secure place.

Hi, very interested in your dial restoration, especially in the reverse of the chapter ring that you discovered on removal. From my reading and what I can see on the video I think this was originally engraved for the Turkish market which European makers exploited from the 16th C. , The numerals on the reverse of the chapter ring look like the ones I have seen in horological books illustrating clocks made for the Ottoman market. Presuambly it was not used or recycled for some reason as brass was expensive and producing a chapter ring with the tools available then was a time consuming task. I might well be wrong, but could be interesting to research. Currently cleaning and repairing a Longcase of the same vintage (c. 1710) with identical spandrels. The chapter rings on my clock have had a plain brass finish for many years and debating whether to leave them brass or to silver..... Do you know if Chapter rings of the period were invariably silvered or were ever left with a plain brass finish. I do think the contrast of the silvered chapter rings looks better, but I don't want to 'restore' them to a state different from original.
