1st Back Bay Striper Trip 2022
Переглядів 179Рік тому
First back bay scouting trip of 2022. The water and air temps had just started to drop and the flats behind Avalon and Stone Harbor should be pretty productive for getting stripers on topwater. I tried some new areas and was able to produce some stripers in a short amount of time. Early, while the water and air is still on the warm side, you have a much smaller window where topwater is affectiv...

New Jersey Flounder Regulation 2022
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
My quick thoughts on the new New Jersey Flounder (fluke) regulations for the 2022 season. While I am not entirely convinced that the small slot size is a good idea, and that there should potentially be a bigger size range, I am excited about the season being open earlier. The earlier season extends the short season that the tackle shops and charters have to make their living. But with that bein...

I need to add a trolling motor and batteries, but first I need to run the wires and there aren't any chase wires (rope). So the first thing I'm doing is running the chase wire from the bow to the helm and from the stern (bilge) to the helm (cockp...

    So they had to cut a hole in your anchor locker so you could bolt down the trolling motor? I have a 2023 19LS and wanted to add a Minn Kota i was wondering how it was mounted.

    so to make a long story short. He's got rigging tubes in the hull and he snaked the runs with a lead ball weight and some fishing line to use to pull the rope, which he's going to use to pull the wire. this is a no brainer and something a 7 year old can do when you have proper rigging tubes. In a boat that has none and the wires are bundled and single conductor, you'll have to pull the garbage thats in there OUT first, then chase your wires. ALWAYS make sure you secure a chase wire to whatever you are pulling out. then you run an extra chase with your actual wire. You always need a spare wire or chase rope left inside your rigging tubes when you finish. That way next time, you have a pull string. Without rigging tubes it's a nightmare. you will likely need a wire snake and a wire pull rod set to get wire from your batteries to your trolling motor. Make sure to use proper Marine grade tinned wire AND use the gauge recommended by your trolling motor manufacturer

    Next time try a walk the dog/spook type plug like a Zara Spook XT or Rebel Jumpin’Minnow when they are not being aggressive on the poppers.

    • @capt.barryhtscharters
      @capt.barryhtscharters Рік тому

      O yea those your favorite? But I use the smack it jrs because I can still walk them. My theory is when you still have those hot days, like it was about 70, that makes them sluggish and doesn't turn on til sunset. Just have a smaller window. Also upgrade the hooks to vmc and over the thinner one bc one bent and definitely think the hook up ratio went down. Because they were blowing up on it multiple times, later in the season, and not getting stuck.

    • @Skolmann
      @Skolmann Рік тому

      @@capt.barryhtscharters It’s been my experience that when I find stripers that are not hitting a popper (FYI,I love the Smack-It) but are just swirling on it , that if I follow up by throwing a spook type plug right behind it I will get the fish to strike 9 out of 10 times.

    soon its going to be like the other states that you need a saltwater license to fish the ocean, bays, back bays and the marshes they should leave it alone as it is and focus on more important issues.

  • @anglerissues2309
    @anglerissues2309 2 роки тому

    I don’t like the new Regs, I’m sure jetty and pier fishermen love it and the charter guys, but us guys that open ocean fish and the tournament fisherman are probably not too happy with it. The more smaller fish you keep takes away from the breeder stock in the long run. But any way you look at it, it’s good for some and not for others. Let’s all just keep fishing and leave some for our upcoming generations. 👍

    • @capt.barryhtscharters
      @capt.barryhtscharters 2 роки тому

      Yea it def was a drastic change in direction of management. Still think having the one slot fish to start would've been a better option. In theory, letting the bigger breaders go, who can produce more eggs than the smaller ones, should help increase the stock but thats pretty much theory now. Eventually it'll have to be a bigger slot range or go back to what it was.

      It's definitely a little tougher for us down here compared to our north jersey counterparts lol Looks like we should have some good action this spring. I haven't done much with clams around the banks. I've stuck with using artificials. Low tide is definitely becoming my favorite time to target them.
