Pulling rods triple double
Переглядів 51 тис.5 років тому
Seen too many bad rig videos decided to make my own
My rig was a triple double. Nice post
I used to work Derek's when I was younger in the late seventies
I remember those days Mr Keith. Smashed fingers and stitches didn't count as injuries. In 2004. The Rig I consulted on cost 389.oo a minute to operate. Now if you get a bump. You have to fill out an accident report.
I operated one of JP OIL rig in Kern County Ca. For 3 years. It keeps you on your toes.
Those tongs are insane bro 😮
Is that thing you took off like a transfer for tubing? I only worked rod rig might get on a service rig though
Yep
Thanks for the video. Helped me learn the rod basket before I went up for the first time. Was rough the first few hangs but then started rolling. Appreciate it man
Your in a thinking man's position. Remember this. Derrick men die when they make a mistake. Anytime you read about one of you being injured. It is Always a Fatality. Keep your mind focused young man.
What! work rig's 12yr never seen block set up like that before.
How many wells do they service in a day? One, two?
Yea sometimes 3 is possible
Don't lean over to look down.
Monday is my first day as a Derrick man not gonna lie kinda fucking nervous 😂😂
You will be fine ....make sure they have a safety ring on the transfer ...good safety for new Derrick hamds
@@derektatro1640 I did all the deliveries for oil rigs anchors/ R drains/ fike drains/ polish rods /plungers/ pump rods/ bailers and flappers/ etc and got my foot in I’m just excited for this new chapter in careers
That is so fucking cool! I love latching pipe, but this is neater than a skeeters peter!!
👍🙋♂️🙋♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️

Old rig hand here I can tell you the margin for error is very small. This man has some good hand eye up there.
👍
I worked for JP Oil Co. In kenr County and our rigs were equipped with speed kits. 12,000 ft of tag. In the hole in 1 hrs and 50 minutes. Out of the hole in 2 hrs. Driller and crew has to be in tune. Constantly alert.
Kern County, California.
@@RobertCHoweSr use to do the same thing with a conventional 6 line franks.
@trevorlayhe1936 6 lines yes, I also
How tall is this rig?
Not sure where I was standing is prob about 60 ft....rig to crown is prob about 90 ft
Hey, what's the clamp called that clamps the rod on the platform. The thing you see the rough necks always slam shut and swing open? My dad is a machinist, and ya'll rough necks are abusive on shit man. You got my dad working past retirement, lol. You all pay your bills, too. Well, Encino does anyway. God bless Oil and Gas.
I'm assuming you mean elevators...yea they pretty strong piece of equipment they go a long time without breaking as they should pretty important they don't break
I have no idea what the process is but it looks complicated
I WANNA COME!!!!
Hell ya looks like fun count me in
fuck that nope. not me never.
No thanks but thank you!
Not enough money in the world
O hell no not for a billion dollars
Nope
my boots are on layaway
Magnetic boots?😊
Nope.
If I was the safety man you'd be wearing ' SAFE BOOTS or you'd go home.
You have a preference more fitting than steel toe boots?
Are you talking about the exposed steel? If so, you've never worked somewhere where you are on grating and steel all day. I have a $300 pair of Chippewa's . As soon as I can walk again (broken leg) I guarantee you will see the steel in less than a month.
@@acme_tnt8741 much the same thoughts I had. A month is about the maximum anyone can realistically hope for the survival of the leather over the steel in high impact work environments. In all the years I've been a welder it's never been more than a month that I can recall.
@@acme_tnt8741 I worked in the oil fields fore 11 years .
pickling 3/4" rods
Awl shit hate it lol , I like the tubing board don’t like rods probably because my transfers were junk . You got that weird open block never messed with those on the tubing board just push and pull on the dead line for tall tubing 👍
Yeah mine too. Freeze up like a bastard in the winter. Even methanol wouldn't help
Крс
Those four liners shit an get it
Nice bro
Thanks
Speed kit dont see that much
That is essentially like a rod transfer but for a double stand of tubing, correct?
Yes it's connected to winch line with a foot pedal to work it
Jam Up
I just started learning rod basket a few weeks ago. No pointers and I was struggling. Watched this last night and today I did a lot better
Hell yes man glad I could help
@@derektatro1640 now I just need the operator to be more consistent with how fast he moves the blocks and I think I would do way better
Does that bottle just latch?
Or do I have to turn it before I latch it onto the box
@@Drf35k0 usually they have a ring that you hold up with your thumb and pinky until you line up the square on the transfer with the square on the rod. Once the rod is in the transfer, let go of the ring and that'll hold it.
This is really interesting. I’ve never seen the speed kit actually being used
Oh dam had to give you a shout out, glad I found you
I'm on the board of my big rig right now. I always wanted to try one of those hay rake boards.
Sure flush fast though.
Wo ? Stop !
Not sure what is going on?
Technology hasn't changed much since I was in the derrick 40 years ago. I do like the open blocks though. Are they good for avoiding stackouts when pulling pipe?
It helps I guess but they are intended for the speed kit
That would be one cold ass place to work in the winter. On my old rig I’ve got a birds nest with a heater in it
I worked Derrick in Northern Canada for 30 years. I got folded up in a Rod Basket once when the Blocks caught it.
I was working the bird basket and the operator miss counted rod boxes and crowned out. I jumped out of the basket because I knew what was next. I heard him clutch it in and I instantly knew it Was going to be bad. Luckily he didn’t snap the drill line
@@kylepatterson2679 holy shit man. what do you mean you jumped out though, I know you didn’t jump to the ground or you wouldn’t be telling this tale right now
@@Naltddesha I jumped out of the basket, to the outside of the derrick where the ladder on our was located. You don’t want to be in that basket if the blocks fall. Ours weighed 10,000 lbs and they fall fast
@@kylepatterson2679 tell your operator to watch his drum line it never lies that’s what I do I only look up to check the derrickhand pulling the transfer or elevators
Awesome
You dont even have to latch pipe! What the fuck!
Are you talking about one of my other videos with tubing ....yea it's an ideco speedkit
@@derektatro1640 I would like to try it
Yea it's pretty nice and really fast ..we can pull 4500 ft in like 40 min
@@derektatro1640 single four line could do an hour 15 maybe a little quicker if i had a good crew and that was on a 76 skytop 6 years ago lol
where is this? Colorado?
Kansas
