Best Size for your First FPV Freestyle Drone?
Переглядів 8 тис.2 місяці тому
I should've prepared better for this video/made it a little more succinct, but I hope this conveys what it's like to fly FPV freestyle with different sized quads.
My whoop performed wayyy better after this...

If you've got a tiny whoop that you've been bashing around for awhile, it might be time for a good cleaning and perhaps a new battery lead. Perhaps you'll see a similar improvement!

Aside from some time on the simulator and one or two real life attempts with a micro, this was my first session focused on the trippy spin. These are much more difficult for me in real life! Perhaps next time I'll try with a higher camera angle.

QUADMULA DJINN F25 INDOOR FREESTYLE
great video! i will soon get a 3.5 inch with an O3 on it!
fire ending with that freaz frame was sick ngl
Ordered a Mobula6 a couple of days ago. its my first tiny whoop. cant wait.
Enjoy!
А чего не акро?
If you are referring to air mode, I have it on a switch between air and acro. Air mode flies exactly like acro for the most part. The differences are in stability at low throttle and bumping the ground or objects.
What drone was the 2.5 inch? Is it one you built, or a bind & fly? (Exuding the air unit of course)
The 2.5 inch is a quadmula Djinn f25 frame that I built with primarily tmotor parts
@@AlexGFPV What about the rest of the drone? (Motors, flight controller, etc.)
@@Witchcat-th2yb thats what i meant by the tmotor parts. 1404 2900kv motors, tmotor f45a esc f7 fc. I have the full build list in an older video but i think that covers everything. I wish I went with an AIO tbh just to save space/weight
@@AlexGFPV Ok, thank you.
Why do we go from inch to cm when we talk about whoops
You know I’m not really sure haha. It seems like most people refer to 2 inch drones and above based on the propeller size, whereas whoops are often measured in millimeters diagonally from motor post to motor post. Couldn’t tell you why off the top of my head - maybe someone else could tap in…
Wait. You're right about the diagonal measure. I didn't realize until now. Now I have more questions. Anyway. I love my 2" and 65mm whoops
Just go my Zorro and have no drone yet just running sims. This is very helpful thank you!
I Definitely want a tiny whoop to fly in small spaces so this meteor 65 looks perfect to be able to do trips/flips
Awesome! Thank you. Yes, for small spaces it’s great. Just modified mine to make it a little lighter
@@AlexGFPV Perfect!! About to watch the modified video I didn’t even see that
Just answered all my question I had no idea how to bind/find the right goggle/rates. HUGE!
I think I may have to get the v2 DJI goggles with the analog attachment so I can record and if I want to use a DJI o3 air unit
I started on the Cetus X kit and now I'm flying a 3" from AvionRC. Mostly got a 3" for the size. Its just small enough for my own yard and the transition from whoop to a 3" freestyle felt great.
Great! Love to hear it. Do you think the whoop step was worth it or do you wish you went right to 3 inch? Curious if it saved headache or felt like an unnecessary step
@AlexGFPV the whoop was definitely worth it for me, and I'm glad I did it the way I did. First, I got a sim, then the whoop kit, and then I bought everything else separately once I knew I was into the hobby. I even learned how to solder due because of this hobby, so once I felt more comfortable learning everything I did on cheap equipment, and now im more confident flying more expensive gear with the knowledge I've learned along the way knowing when something breaks I should be able to fix it and trouble shoot things.
@@orlinn3 sounds good. Thats the way to do it! I think I will be making a video about the most efficient way to get into fpv in the future. (tx, sim, drone, video system, etc.)
also grabbing myself a djinn… murders got me into it, and looks like u ripping it hard! awesome mang
Thank you! Murders got me into it as well lol, something about that review was just 👌. Quadmula should send him an extra massive care package
set up a binding phrase, i use it with all my drones and it binds in like 3 seconds when you plug it in
Ive been thinking about it but all of mine do that as well... Once ive done the 3 plug thing they all bind right away when plugged in (faster than the goggles at least haha). What situation would the binding phrase be different? Switching between TXs maybe?
@@AlexGFPV yea but you just set the binding phrase on all your radios that use Elrs then set it on any drone and it will still go onto any of your radios! Not just one, in my opinion its super easy
@@AlexGFPV also im thinking of switching to hdzero, apparently it takes like a minute to connect to the drone is that true?
Will definitely be doing this if I get another radio 👍
did you modify the PID or did u tune it from betaflight's preset? can you share?
meteor 65 is on the factory tune for now, djin I did my own then tried a preset for 2.5 inch, beaver flies super well on stock pids so i left it for now
@@AlexGFPV thanks bro.. thanks for the amazing sharing!
@@herotrojan1645 of course 👍
IMHO 3" or 3.5" is the best size for a starter. It's less finicky than a tiny whoop, flight feel is pretty close to a 5", but it doesn't have the mass to damage you, others or itself during most crashes.
yep, thats pretty much what i concluded after this. You get performance and durability. Unless sub250 or indoor is super important 3.5 is the way to start!
Can you get DJI O3 there?
@@nucik dji O3 is perfect for 3.5" quads that are too small to comfortsbly carry full-sized gopros, but can easily carry O3's to capture great footage
i think 2inch is better tbh. a 3 inch can still have a lot of power and depending on the location can still be a bit sketchy to fly in small areas or around people.
agreed that 3.5 is a bit too big around people (especially for beginner). That being said 2 inch will be underwhelming in open spaces so depends on location for sure.
How do u connect the integra googles to analog?
you cant
you can only use analog with the v2 goggles. I used the goggles 2 here for dji and the goggles v2 for analog in this video.
what was that module bro?
On the transmitter? Its the internal ELRS module
OHH just realized you meant the analog one. Its the eachine pro 58 module from aliexpress
Good job! Try new betafly AIR75
I'd love to! Maybe as a replacement for my meteor65 when it goes out...
i fly also a 2.5 inch quad but on 3s
Nice video
Nice!
you play any simulators for fpv if so what ones?? i feel like i see ur name everytime i get on uncrashed.
I play both of the liftoff ones because they run well on mac for me - I dont think i have uncrashed unless i downloaded it and forgot 😅 . Might have to try it though!
@@AlexGFPV ahhh okay that’s where I’ve seen you. I play most of the sims. Love the videos man keep it up!
@@0hhDeee Could be - its been awhile but i've done multiplayer occasionally. Your name does sound familiar too assuming its similar to the one you have on the sim. Thank you very much!
HALLELUJAH
My Djinn on 6S 650mah with Quicksilver firmware is s little breast. I just got the Flywoo baby nano 20 with walksnail i love the 3.5 inch more than 5 inch. Cheaper too. My Armattan BEAVER is my favorite 5 inch as my arms just came in today and the 3D printed LED feet by FLYHIGH FPV is my only 5 inch that is loaded with LEDs plus the included Armattan racewire that comes with the frame is the final touch
Nice! How is the baby nano 20? I will likely have a review of a 2 inch coming up soon. I almost bought the nano as my first quad. Have you used the warrantee at all on the beaver?
@@AlexGFPV I love flying the nano but if you crash it's really hard to find in tall grass. The warranty on the beaver doesn't replace the arms and other parts for free IDK what the warranty covers. I had to order another arm and top plate from a battery exploding after take off. But everything else was just fine. I just reprinted some parts for the drone and now I'm still rebuilding it and getting it back in the air again.
Hey man Nice Vid! I was curious what the 2.5 inch quad's build list was, it seems like a ton of fun!
Thanks! Its a quadmula Djinn f25 using a tmotor fc and esc, and tmotor 1404 2900kv motors. (VTX is DJI O3)
@@AlexGFPV thanks man!
Is this conteoller or the pocker erls better for beginner (also playing sim. on pc before buying a drone)?
Radiomaster Zorro probably ELRS
I started out on the included Emax remote w/ a Tinyhawk freestyle kit. I switched to a Radiomaster Pocket. It costs $20 more and it's like a 300% better radio. Check if it comes with the 18650 batteries. Some do and are priced accordingly, but mine didn't. The top USBC port is used for sims, the bottom can charge the batteries. No external charging required.
I had the pocket to start! It is a great controller if you dont want to worry about throwing it in a backpack. The throws are pretty short (the sticks dont move very far), which is fun for freestyle but makes it a little trickier to fly very smooth if you have fast rates. Both controllers work excellent with the simulator - its really a size difference and battery life difference. The pocket gets good battery life, zorro bad. The zorro has longer throws, pocket has short throws. The pocket is small, zorro is a little big with that screen sticking up.
@@AlexGFPV Thanks for the tips!
I am on a cetus x kit right now. Looking at going with the dji goggles 3 and O4 when that eventually comes. Or would you recommend one of the older goggles?
Box googles or anolog googles
@@monirakhondoker8945 I have the betafpv anolog ones. I was asking for upgrading to digital as a next step
@@PaladinSalt depends what you want to do. I fly primarily analog or HDzero for freestyle and racing but 03 air units for cinematic flying. The latency on digital systems make it tough for on the fly (no pun intended) manuvers
Hello. I suppose it depends what your goals are. If you would like to have one pair of goggles for everything you could do the V2 goggles with an analog module. However, those will probably not work with O4 and would limit you to O3. If you are set on getting O4 i would say your best bet is probably the goggles 3 as many are unsure about the compatibility between o4 and the older goggles.
@@AlexGFPV '03. Air unit works with the V3 goggles now.
Great video bro 🫡 great advice for the newcomers to! 🤙
Thanks brother 🙏
Amazing freestyle. May i ask do u use the actual rate or betaflight rate ? Can u share your complete setup
Thanks! Actual rates with 900 pitch and roll, 880 yaw, .23 expo on those. Also .18 throttle expo.
1:57 lol
Here is 2 answers for you questions: 1.The Air65 2.Trippy spins with 65mm whoop and this guy fly with 15° angle. ua-cam.com/video/mxB-htmChhk/v-deo.htmlsi=mXzfyqXEO869brfa&t=12
I can trippy spin my meteor 65, just feels different from a 5”
Does that drone have a screen for seeing live footage? How much does it cost? Is it hard to learn how to fly it?
You wear goggles to see the live feed when flying. An fpv setup can be pretty affordable (around 150) to very expensive (1000+). This drone costs around 100, and can be paired with any ELRS controller and analog goggle.
@@AlexGFPV would u recommend this over a more advanced drone such as the mini 2 se
@@AlexGFPVthe flight time, camera quality, and range seem underwhelming
@@blueflame2532 two very different use cases. This is a small fpv drone with low latency meant for racing, freestyle, fast flight, durability. The dji mini is meant for taking stable photos sitting in the air. If you are looking for video quality, DJI makes FPV gear as well. The DJI photo drones like the mini are very easy to operate. FPV drones require more time to learn.
@@blueflame2532 many of my other videos contain fpv drones using the DJI o3 system which has range and penetration closer to that of a DJI camera drone
Hey so this particular model has an issue with chewing up the batt lead. Try securing it to one of the struts with dental floss to keep it out of the way of the props 😊😊
Also before I forget - use some 20awg wire next batter lead replacement. Game changer as betafpv uses 22awg
No issues with prop strikes for me, but both the wire right after the solder joint and right where the new connector has an elbow was damaged. (the part that hits the ground during a matty flip if you crash haha)
Good tip on the 20awg - ill have to try that next time!
try direct soldering your motors, it is a bigger improvement. I will never go back, I cut the plugs off all motors now. more power, longer flight times. Also, you can make your own 90 degree bt2.0, just cut the posts down until they are maybe 5 to 7mm long, solder wires in at 90 degrees, then cover wires in hot glue or e6000
Solid. I wasnt sure if the plugs made a difference or not besides weight but sounds like its worth a try!
Do you use the Standard PID or have you done you any tuning?
I use the factory PID for this one
That just a BT2.0 connector... the elbow joint has no real meening (can be stright aswelll)
Correct. It came from factory with bt2.0. The elbow was to avoid damaging by bending the wires and in crashes. The improvement was from the better joints and wire, not the elbow.
Keep it up dude nice flying I'm getting into FPV my first drone I got was a hs210 line of sight a mini kids drone but I really am hooked in lol and I hope to get into FPV tiny whoops or something I love it
Thank you! Sounds like a good plan 👍. I'll have a video next week about what size drone would be good to start on for freestyle!
I was just asking Infinity Loops about this. I am thinking my very short flight performance is battery but he recommends this very fix.
Oh word! I did notice better flight time and was pleasantly surprised. I remember getting a new pack of batteries and being disappointed that my fight time was still low. The fresh cable seems to have helped a little for sure
Now get rid of the ducts and it will be even better
I was just thinking of doing this haha. I have a little carbon frame that might work with some mods. I gotta say I like the ducts for bashing around though...
So I just got a meteor75 and it comes with the elbow from factory! Great flying my guy! how do you record your flights?
Nice! Glad they implemented that. My normal cable was not holding up super well. I record analog video on the DJI goggles v2 with an adapter. The stick cam is just my phone on a chest mount.
Nice flying, can u share your rates?
Using actual rates I run 900 on pitch and roll and 880 yaw all with .23 expo. Throttle at .18 expo.
@@AlexGFPV 900 - spicy :)

I did bt 2.0 on all my whoops and they rip hard. Worth the mod
Agreed!
Your camera angle looks too low but you can definitely lock it in 👏🏾
Thanks for the tip! Concluded this at the end of the video if i remember correctly. Same thing on my most recent video haha
the metor 65 can do a trippy spin
yes it can!
How do you connect the radiomaster to it?
I just use the three plugs in quick succession on the drone and then sys > expresslrs > bind
