I have been working in tech for over 10 years. I have a VR business and i enjoy technology products in general. I purchase and want to make honest review of the products i personally use. I believe only through application and use one can provide a proper, honest review. I also like fixing stuff so if i got any ideas of fixing solutions i will post videos as well. Thanks :)
MSI / Any Laptop Broken Screen Lid Hinge Repair Solution
If you bought an expensive MSI laptop, you probably didnt know how terrible MSI build quality is and now the screen hinge is braking off the lid on one or both sides. I offer a simple DIY solution to repair this and i also STRONGLY ADVISE to anyone to NEVER buy MSI. I apologize for the quality of the video. This was made in 1 take , unedited. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions or wish i remake this video.

yeah, fr. don't buy msi, use the money for asus or sumn. Mine's completely shattered on the left one bcs of the built up tension for whatever reason it is. Had to buy the cover and it's quite pricey for a flappy alumunium cover smh. I'll give up if the tight hinges problem happen again
Thanks bro you are saver❤
root cause analysis - thank you
I paid $1500 AUD for mine. Hinge mounts and screen broke within the first 6 months. Triend to get in contact with MSI customer support who said within my warranty period. They didn’t even respond. DONT BUY MSI LAPTOPS you will be DISAPPOINTED!!!
Mine broke down within 4 months of buying. No rough usage broke while closing the lid. I wonder how much it'll cost me.
MSI laptop prices are high but build quality is very cheap
Gl63 hardly close open both hinge open
Same here with katana gf66. Couple of months old, Tool good care but the left hinge just broke.
my left hinge also broke i think the left one always breaks because most people are right handed so thaey only apply force to right side
the right one for mine... but im right handed?
We can all agree that those hinges are cheap crap
@@rayzutohazt7201 yes they are cheap and low quality
Legit same Right hinge broke on gf66 after couple months of sitting on a desk and not moving Mind you this was my friend and he literally just gave this to me tonight and bought a new one (Not MSI)
Пиздец в европе вы как в деревне долбаёбы
I got a work laptop MSI GP76 model. Used it 6 months hardly today and poof there went the hinge. It scared the SHIT out of me!!! the IT guy was optimistig about it.... but before i could even save my work poof there went the screen too. 😫I am now on an ASUS that is 10 years old, that was <25 % of the price. Seriously THIS AIN"t RIGHT!
damn i have the same model the same term and the same issue f**ing msi...
Thanks.
I wish i could send a video to someone to show them how bad mine is so they could explain whether or not my situation is able to be helped. 😭
We're all here for the same reason. My msi is being held up by just the wires at this point. The hinges are destroyed.
any update ? I may try to fix mine with this method
@@mylittleweirdo Just recently gave up and bought a new laptop, lol.
I'm also a member of the broken hinge club, raider ge75 bought middle of 2021. Used gently no drops or any mishaps. So the toughest thing for me was getting the screen bezel off I used two medium guitar picks one screen the other on the opposite side and worked it around. Next hard part is loosening the nuts without a small box wrench. good luck. Thanks for this video!
Are you loosening the edge of hinge? Icant even rotate it
had this happen recently, laptop was already falling apart before this and its only 5 years old pretty sad how far msi's build quality has fallen.
Anyone have this problem with a ge76 raider?
Mine Just broke today
@@Turbiales Mine too xD Planned obsolescence, I guess.
@@lunalavoiemine just broke 5 minutes ago! I’ve owned my GE76 for less than one year. Owned 5+ laptops in the past, this shit never happened to me before 😭😂
This just happened to my msi laptop. Wish I would have seen this before and loosened the screws
Just happened to mine this morning too
It's soo good to hear MSI is finally being taken to court for the Hinge-problem. Just search: "Class action lawsuit initiated on MSI hinge defects"
Wooooow thanks for that comment!!! I came here cos my new laptop had this problem and i couldn't believe a new expencise model could be so badly made. I saw your comment and googled it. My model is part of the lawsuit. I am totale going check up on that! THanks for the info!
Fuck MSI... went to their service center to repair the hinge, and even then they rejected my laptop. Like wtf
WHAT! THAT MAKES NO SENCE!!!! I hate that kind of work ethics. Fuck that! I get a Windows comp cos I hate that kind of Apple mentality. BLEG! That is the last time i get an MSI!
First my screws got real loose, i tighten them, now the damn thing is separating and the screw wont tighten as if the receptacle is broken.. I take really good care of this thing.
Awesome tips man, thanks for help, i have the same problem in my laptop and i didn't know how to fix it. Thaks a lot again.
Nice! Thanks for the instructions...loosened the nuts. Works GREAT!
Leaving this comment here. If you have this issue within 2 years of buying an msi product, be sure to warranty rma it and have msi fix it. They'll fix it or send a replacement laptop.
@@krystal5887 yea. Mine lasted 6 months but it was 100% my fault that it broke. It hasn’t broke since I got it fixed so I’m not sure how him and others can say this happens to them without messing with the laptop.
MSI Laptops are absolute garbage. The software is phenomenal but the hardware is laughable. The fans in my laptop are always breaking and the hinge issue seems to be a common occurrence. Also, one of my audio ports are completely broken. I never had issues like this with other products, I've only seen this happen with MSI. Never buying from MSI ever again.. Unbelievable.
go for TUF instead, it's really good
Checking in with the same issue
Msi thin left hinge just failed. Msi must address this or lose their reputation. Any managers at msi taking note of this? Fix it msi.
Help! my MSI GL63 can't be loosen at the end bolt of hinge, is it the hinges type that cant be loosen?
MSI is obviously doing this on purpose what a bunch of douche bags!
Joining the club with my 2yr GL75. It's my second, but probably last msi..
Thank you so much! Same issue with my MSI Gf66. Left side...
Very interesting...I would try the same for my MSI GE 75 Raider which I have been using for two years...
Do you happen to know the size of the screws?
3 yrs old - MSI GF63 Thin 9SC is broken hinge joint at Left side ....same problem'
I'm a new member of the broken hinge club. 2 year old GE75, I'll try this fix
Cannot believe this failure. My 9 years GT70 is still in perfect condition! While my 2 years old ge75 has already broken hinge!
my gf63 have same problem
I also joined the broken hinge club of MSI :(
There is not one Laptop manufacturer that has some type of Achilles heel. It seems the MSI GE range has hinge and fan problems. Great video and thank you for sharing. Finally i can fix my GE72
My GE72 just developed fan problems - right after the hinge broke! I love MSI - but jeez.
Ugh, adding my hinge complaint to the pile. I bought a GE75 raider at the very end of 2020 and within about 12 months of use, the plastic hinge cover completely shattered, both the front and the back. It was completely busted, and while the main metal part of the hinge remains connected to the bottom of the laptop, the connecting screw must have flown out when the plastic shattered, because that part is completely gone. Because of this, the screen is no longer stable on the right side as there's no structure to connect it to the base of the laptop, so it's wobbly and droops down to the right slightly. The exposed metal hinge now sits behind the screen, completely useless. Since warranty had expired by then and I absolutely did not want to deal with MSI's customer support and fees required for repair, my broke ass taped the bottom of the screen so that it's connected to the base of the laptop enough so that it stays upright. It's jank and a poor solution, but as the left hinge is-surprisingly-still properly in place and functional, this provides enough stability for the screen to remain upright. That being said, I refuse to close the damn screen at this point out of fear of causing the left hinge to shatter, so it's never leaving my apartment now and remains just a glorified and horribly shitty desktop! Just trying to hold out until I can get myself a desktop to replace it. These "gaming" type laptops aren't worth the headache. Although the MSI GS70 Stealth I used to have did not have any hinge issues, it did eventually start to fail with excessive overheating, keys breaking/falling off, slow booting/loading, etc. Hell, the Lenovo G series laptop-that I had over a decade ago-also had a hinge cover shatter, so it's not even just an MSI issue. Such a rip off paying for gaming capable internals when the externals aren't of the same quality.
Super helpful thanks for also saying be patient lol
4:04 question..... in this step, if you put that to make pressure, wouldn't get glued to the tool?
Definitely, thats why you should use wax paper or tape or something to layer the pliers so they don't get glued. The pliers are definitely a good idea tho.
I'll never ever again buy MSI laptop. I had the same problem with GE72. I also had problems with touchpad buttons. They've just collapsed after some time.
ge76 raider left hinge popped out, whole frame bending on that side right now
Literally my situation right now man. The left frame is bending and I can’t close the laptop or else the left side’ll pop off completely. Gonna hit up a guy who’s fixed my laptop in the past and hopefully he can do it.
Any update?
@@icylosers no bro, im just not touching the hinge, just leaving it open.
@@mdjd.8893 I have the same situation. I'll probably fix mine this weekend. Im just not too sure how long a good quality epoxy will last. or if the bezel will break when i try taking it off, or if itll look nice when i try putting it back on. I don't think i'll ever buy another MSI laptop again.
Yep, same here. The exposed metal hinge sits behind the screen now...
Just had the hinge spontaneously explode on my GL75 leopard tonight. Gonna try this tomorrow, wish me luck!
Same happened to mine to tonight. How did you fix yours please?
@@dorcasa.8140 I used a wrench to loosen the hinge enough so it moves up and down without as much resistance as it built up before the hinge broke, then I followed this video: ua-cam.com/video/MDlndFcjq0Y/v-deo.html to apply JBWeld to reattach the hinge to the monitor housing. Good luck with yours!
Thanks
Hope you are still enjoying the pc after that
Nice useful!
Hinge just broke on my 3 year old GS63, just read through some comments, and now i feel quite lucky the thing didn't break sooner. Terrible build quality, not only on the hinge, but overall.
i have a gf63 thin and my hinge is so loose from the factory
MSI very terrible poor design with plastic. Just so they gain lot of money when reducing the product quality.
Thank you so much! I'm 11 and my MSI GE66 Raider broke its hinge. And an eBay seller told me I something for $400. My mom is very happy we found you and we subscribed good luck on reaching 100 subscribers.
Had my MSI GP73 Leopard 8RF for just over 4 years and my hinge just broke. First problem I have had with the laptop really. Gutted. I cannot afford a new laptop. I've fixed hinges on some of my other laptops so hoping I can just glue/chemical bond it and loosen the bolts a little bit and it will be fixed. Fingers crossed.
How'd it go?
@@rotatorcuffs8140 ok. Still going on that laptop although the other hinge has loosened off quite a bit now so the lid isn't as rigid as it should be. Could do with tightening it all up again but don't want to risk it now it's too frail and will probably just break.
GL75 sent in two months after purchase with broken hinge. Came to UA-cam to find a fix because it broke again (about a year and a half later).
Same just happened to me. I already paid to have it sent in and fixed once before.
I bought a very powerful msi laptop, chassis quality is horrendous. I recommend not buying one.
