Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium-sized onion, chopped
Half a small green bell pepper
350g ground beef
3 cloves garlic, minced
90ml ketchup
2-3 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tbsp tomato paste
90ml water
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp hot sauce
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper
3 tbsp. Butter, for bread
6 slices rustic bread
150g shredded cheddar cheese
1. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the onion, then the bell pepper and cook until soft. Add ground beef, break it up and cook until there are no more pink spots left. Stir in garlic, ketchup, mustard, tomato paste, water, Worcestershire Sauce and hot sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Allow to simmer until thick, then transfer mixture to a bowl.
2. Assemble sandwiches: Butter one side of each bread slice. Place a slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet and spoon meat mixture over the bread. Top with cheddar cheese and add another slice of bread, buttered-side up, on top.
3. Cook over medium heat until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
