The latest season of The Zone: Survival Mission is set to introduce more intense challenges, but cast member Kwon Yuri described the experience as "enjoyable" despite the added difficulties.
AsiaOne attended the press event for the third season of the South Korean variety show on August 6, where both returning and new cast members were present.
In this season, the four "agents of mankind" face disaster simulations that require them to survive for four hours. Yuri shared, "It was a fascinating experience. Adapting to the missions with our two new cast members was quite enjoyable."
The 34-year-old Girls' Generation star laughed shyly as Jae-suk, 51, remarked, "Yuri really had fun this season."
Dong-hyun, 42, joked, "We captured some of her happy moments… she calls Dex like 100 times an hour." In the first three episodes previewed by reporters, Yuri and 29-year-old Dex displayed notable chemistry, with Yuri playfully flirting and Dex looking out for her in various scenarios.
During the press event, Yuri later commented that despite Dong-hyun and Dex being physically imposing, they are "softies" at heart and easily spooked by ghosts, which led to more teasing from Dong-hyun.
"I think Yuri isn’t truly scared of ghosts, but she pretends to be when she’s with Dex," Dong-hyun said. Yuri expressed her gratitude for Dex, sharing, "I was pleasantly surprised. Dex was always there for me during crucial moments, appearing from nowhere to help and comfort me. I was really thankful."
Dex, who gained fame from Single’s Inferno season 2, noted, "I didn’t plan for it, but it felt like I was reliving the dating show with the chemistry I had with Yuri on set."
