Both. The building depicted in the show is real. The top floor is the writers rooms where the show is written. The only time they film up there is when they have to actually film out the windows into the front parking lot. The downstairs is the front door which incorporates the the store, and the elevator, which is fake if you go through the back of the elevator, you are in the warehouse. So the existing building primarily is warehouse and offices. That they actually use. Off to the side kind of bane the main building is a soundstage building. Inside of it is all of the actual sets and that’s where you see it walking around most of the time.

@@virtuallysellitbut the windows on the inside are different than the windows on the outside if you actually look close. I’ve done a lot of research and was always just curious as a couple of things posted online don’t really add up

Honestly don’t remember what part of town it was. Not in a area of filming. It was an actual industrial business area at the end of a street and they built a film lot behind the building.

Googled it. The Office was primarily filmed at the Chandler Valley Center Studios located at 13927 Saticoy Street Van Nuys. This location is behind the former GM Plant as well across the train tracks from the former Schlitz Brewery site

@@4Kreflex it is not. that was just a set on a soundstage. The exterior is of the main building is still there but inside and out back are soundstages where they had the sets that were taken down long ago.

Kinda both. It was a real building in a real office district, but The building you see that they are “in” is actually just the front lobby and elevator. Behind that is the warehouse. The upstairs windows that are supposed to be their offices are actually the writer’s offices for the show. Behind the building, there is (was) soundstage building built with the actual offices and other sets inside of it.

sort of... the building you see is there and the parking lot is in front. and the lobby & Elevator is in there, and through the back of the elevator you enter the warehouse. that is all that is used in that building the upstairs is actully not the office but the writers rooms. The rest of the offices and other locations, are all inside a soundstage building built behind the main building.
