In short, upgrading from a MK1 to a MKII is only for those with money to burn. A person moving to the great OM 43 system should get the MKII. OMDS should have released the firmware upgrade for the OM MK1 and held off producing a MKII until they d had a real upgraded camera to offer. I hate accountants that run business these days
A great review, thank you ...just became a Suscriber too 😊😊
Pen F
Olympus will only be saved by the release of its flagship full-frame camera on L-mount
Love the story about the wedding photos and the client impressed with your work regardless of camera system.
Too bad Pen F II never materialized. I’m using a E-P7 and a Pen- EPL10.
it’s not how pinhole photography works. change iso to 100, use f90, use a tripod or table with and 2sec timer or remote shot. Chose mult plans compositions (pinholes have focus 1cm to infinity). Enjoy long exposures, 4 seconds to minutes.
'Promosm' 😜
Do you think OM -1 will be good for wildlife/bird photography considering the fact that its only 20 megapixel and you need to crop a lot and what about low light capability??
OM1 is really good for wildlife. M4/3 is its benefits. Like the lenses are actually closer, so you don't have to crop. Also super lightweight compare to other cameras and the lens stab is amazing. My friend do wildlife and he also do workshops, and wild tours with photographers. And after a weekend all FF guys usually do the switch. :)
@@POVPHOTOGUY i am not a full frame guy . I am a fujifilm guy.. but fujifilm autofocus just sucks!!! Cant go for wildlife with fuji systems
@@Nadeemkhalid07 I switched from Fuji to OM-1, I don't regret the transition at all, you correctly noticed any Fuji autofocus at all.
Those locations are amazing, I always want to do portrait here sometime. But some locals here only see those places only for homeless ppl, what's a shame
not really at the metro area, because u need ticket inside. But yes at the entrance. It is what it is.
Nice photo walk! So I've had the ep7, switched to canon ef-m but now eyeing the em10 iv again bc of ibis. How important or helpful do you think ibis is for photography?
uhh very important!!! You know I am mainly a wedding photographer now. And I am able to shoot in 1/50 in a wedding reception. So soo many times it helps. So the thing is its a m4/3 camera. Smaller sensor, not handle high iso as good as FF cameras. That is a fact. BUT! And here is the catch: Because the IBIS is soo good 7-8stops, so don't have to shoot ISO 3200 on 1/160-250, but you able to shoot 400 or 800 ISO on 1/50-100 or sometimes lower. So ou have almost the same picture quality, you don't have to use high iso. If you never used Olympus camera, you not really understand and u think I just lying. But try it out yourself, play with it and once you used to it, you will be super surprised!!
Hi mate, I just purchased an second hand one and I'm facing the problem that the Kit Lens 14-42 EZ took about 4-5 seconds to reform back as normal whenever I turn the EP7 to OFF function. Could you check it again and let me know does it a normal issue or my camera is certain malfunctional ? Please help because there are noone around me using EP7.
I do not have it, but I asked and it should go back in 1-2sec, not as slow as u mentioned. But I would not worry about if its still functioning.
update: they said it can be also the camera or the lens. So you should try the lens in a different camera to check if the lens has a problem or the camera. But the store recorded me a video how should work and its literally 0.5sec to open and close the zoom lens.
What about low light performance?? Is om1 better than om5??
yes OM1 has newer sensor and its BSI.
are your pictures on instagram taken with omsystem?:)
yes. All of them in all my IG accounts.
You mention human subject detection now includes the body / focuses on the body (10mins 20 sec) unlike previous models. Have you tested this? Is that correct? It's not just face detection as per previous models?
Awsome!I had been waiting for this camera so long and i am so excited.Just ordered one.Despite some negative comments this camera is incredible. For those that have negative comments i just have one suggestion please read the manual and learn how to use this camera 90% don’t know how to use it at its full potential.I will just highlight some remarkable features 1.White balance of 14000 kelvin the colors are astonishing…other brands just have 9000 kelvin in full frame 2. 8.5 stops of image stabilization vs 5 stops-6 on other brands you can actually take photos at night with the camera without a tripod. 3. Gradual Nd filter means that the sensor has variable iso image processing,no other camera can do that. 4. High resolution mode with 50 megapixels are improved 5. The color science is better than canon/nikon 6.In camera focus staking no software needed …in macro it does wonders no other brand can do that 7. AI software integration .And there are much more other things that this camera can do but I will let the people that have negative attitude discover them and learn how to use this beast of a camera at it’s full potential.I own three different systems and trust me when i say it this camera is a beast and does wonders….you just have to read the manual and go do photography and experiment.Great job OM System!Awsome camera!
UPgrade? To WHAT???? a new price!
Nice
Wow it looks like shit nice
i dont like how it looks almost the same as fujifilm x a2 or x100 same sheet difrent brand previous pen cameras were difrent unique
is the built in GND and ND any better than the older model? the ND on my EM1X is close to useless. I regret every single time not having the real ND filter with me. sounds like another useless gimmick to fill the spec sheet.
What is wrong w the older model? Can't tell u about that as I haven't experienced w the EM1X and just tested a few shot w the M1mII. Had no problem with it, but I shoot in city condition I am not a nature/wildlife photographer so can't tell any difference.
A lot of the system appeals to me, but I shoot indoors at live events and I don't think it will perform at high iso unfortunately with moving subjects.
at least try it out and see yourself. Not much but I am shoot some events and also wedding parties and works good to me.
@@POVPHOTOGUY exactly
bro no, next one
ahaha why? you don't liked it? :D
I got about 1500 hundred saved. Buy the time I have 2500 hundred saved if OMS doesn’t have either a Pen F out or a true upgraded OM5 out I’m going to take my om 5 my two other Olympus cameras and 10 lenses and go all in with Fuji. OMS only cares about wildlife at this point.
which Fuji r u planning to buy?
@@POVPHOTOGUY well Fuji is announcing a new xpro 4 in a few weeks so that or a xt5.
@@WhoIsSerafin nice. I will looking forward into it. I love Fuji color and the body aesthetics.
Have you tried printing your photos in large format (120-150 cm. width) in gallery quality? If yes, then how satisfied were you with the quality?
yes, many times w my older Olympus cameras. Quality is great. Even a 10MP camera is great for printing btw. There is some missconception that people says u need 30-50MP cameras if u wanna do (large) prints.
@@POVPHOTOGUY I have no experience with Micro Four Thirds systems, but the OM-1 MARK II seems to be a very capable camera. my main concern is noise level and dynamic range (and of course large print) as I do a lot of night photography in stormy, rainy and dark situations. Would like to try the OM-1 MARK II and if it works I will happily switch to it. thanks for the excellent video...wish you all the best!
@@irajart I am not a night photographer but OM System has features as Stary Sky, and many others what is dedicated for sky photography. Yes many features nobody talks about but they are pretty good and revolutionary also. So if you interested check out some OM System ambassadors who r really wildlife and night photographers and they can help u understand and know the system benefits because they are. I can't but I can say noise level is significant lower in the new OM1 camera and the mark2 as well. But if u take a look to my work on my websites you can see. Many times people think I am shoot on a FF Sony camera. But I am not. 90% of my work both on my websites are shot on my old Pen-F camera. And a few with the new OM1. Shot me a dm on insta or email me and I am happy to send over my portfolio, etc. so u can see the quality.
Megapixels might matter if you are dealing with commercial clients. RED35 on UA-cam had to upgrade to a Panasonic Lumix GH6 because his client wanted 24 megapixels. I'm still happy with 20 megapixels and even 16 and 12 megapixels.
I am curious who was the client? Because: A: most of the client have no clue what is Megapixel they just focus on the final product. My worked published in Billboards, Magazines, Prints, Citylights. It all shot w Olympus system and 20MP. Usually sent out 5-10MP images. Never had issue. B: if the client really need that you can still upsample your photos and make a 50-80MP photos.
@@POVPHOTOGUY I have found some crazy clients in the past asking silly questions before and they really have no clue what they are talking about. I know RED35 does work with models so might have been some modeling company? I once did some sample work for a real estate company and they wanted everything HDR. So I used my Olympus OMD E-M1ii and put it in HDR mode. It was in manual when doing HDR but I did not move the dial on the camera. And the meta data showed it. The lady emailed me back saying your dial needs to be in M mode and I told her when I go into HDR mode I can control the setting manually. It might have been something else in the settings but this is the best I can remember it was a long time also. I think around 2018. Also all the images was tac sharp from front to back but they wanted everything to be F8 or F11. They wanted me to reshoot it and I said no the images are fine. They said they needed the settings to be like this for their software. I asked them what software they use they would not tell me. There are reasons for more megapixels but most people don't have a good reason for more megapixels.
its biggest drawback is in nature photography for all sorts of reasons. For instance they have a 150 to 400 mm telephoto lens. But at the top end 400 mm you have no chance of cropping the picture. Although at 300 you can. In nature photography this is a major drawback with this system. I know it’s called a 150 to 400 mm lens truthfully it is a 150 to 300 mm telephoto lens. They’re pretending you get with micro 4/3 200 mm more but that’s not the case.
@@thomasreed49 No system is perfect and I always say do the best you can with what you have. One photographer back in the DSLR days I think tried for years to get a photo of a bird diving into the water and get the birds beak touching the water. It took him years to get that photo. Now a days that's very easy with cameras with pre-burst mode taking 120 photos a second.
Thanks I’m photographing starlings fighting in mid air. at the moment I’m doing quite well. But you’re right you could’ve done that before. 👍
Here's my take. This is really just an OM1 with a bigger ram chip. The other changes are software. OMDS should have put that ram chip in the original camera, and given us some firmware upgrades like Olympus used to do.
OM-1 was released prematurely which is why it's needed so many FW updates and still has problems.
Will we be saying the same thing about the Mk II in two years time? Actually, most cameras today get multiple bug fixes, just like computer programs. In fact, they're sharing more with computer operating systems all the time, and there is no sign of this decreasing . Fortunately for the buyers of the OM1, they appear to have got the hardware right; the lack of ram was probably a marketing decision, not an engineering decision. I'm not aware of any widely reported hardware problems with the OM1. Keeping the same hardware and bringing out a MkII was probably a wise decision from that point of view. My worry about OMDS is that the suits at the board table at JIP start over-riding engineering decisions, now that Olympus is in the rear view mirror. I've noticed that their Pro lenses are getting cheaper, dropping the function button and focus clutch for example. This would be a business decision. Let's hope they don't start cutting corners on their camera bodies going down the road. @@formermpc10
Cameras are now operating systems like personal computers, so I expect bug fixes. Are there hardware problems with the OM1? ( other than not having enough ram that is.) If there are, that's a lot more concerning than software bug fixes. But I'm not aware of any widespread complaints about the hardware. @@formermpc10
and no doubt will soon disappear @@formermpc10
Have you actually shot with an OM 2 ? Or are you parroting reviews? I like mine
Excellent video! Really enjoyed it.
thanks so much for watching and for your comment.
The explanation of the strange 12,5 & 16,7 FPS for the SH2 Modes is actually pretty straight forward: Native Capturing: 50/1 = 50 FPS Capture every other frame: 50/2 = 25 FPS Capture every third: 50/3 = (16.66…≈) 16.7 FPS Capture every fourth: 50/4 = 12.5 FPS This feature is very useful and could easily be back ported to older OM-D models
haha make sense now. Thanks for explaining. I am not a nerd not even a math genius. Just a guy love taking photos. :)
IMO the OM1.2 is a logical and predictable step forward, in line with how other manufacturers advance their products. Extremely impressive. Not quite enough for me to replace my OM1 (which works as great now as it did last week and I greatly enjoy) but tempting. I think in a couple three years I’ll be looking forward to the OM1.3.
Well said. I think OM System should be congratulated for updating the ground breaking OM-1 only two years into it's market life. That's much sooner than Olympus or other makers usually do.
I think they are doing great in order to make money. And I hope they will, in some point in the future, start to bring the upgrades we want and need. The OM1.2 is a very interesting Camera, but personally I see no point to upgrade from my OM1.1, and I’m frustrated with the FW update strategy. They should launch a Camera with a newer sensor, 4K 120, 5.2K 60, and stop to bring cold coffee to the table. Many Olympus supporters are loosing patience and faith! The system is REALLY compelling, but they NEED to launch NEW products.
The sensor in the OM-1 is the most advanced on the market. Developed by Sony and only used in just a few cameras even two years after the OM-1 came out. Peta Pixal texted the OM-1 against the G9II (with it's 25mp sensor) and gave the IQ win to the OM-1 for lower noise and better dynamic range. I'm not a video shooter so I don't find either OM-1 lacking there - but we all have different needs. I sense frustration in your message that you don't have your wish list now. Well, sorry for that, but aren't you missing the important point that OM System released a major update to a "new" camera just two years? I see it as great news that they are aggressive enough to listen to customer input and make improvements so quickly. Another two years and hopefully we'll see some big video improvements.
The OM1 and a couple of lenses was the last of Olympus equipment. Now it's OMDS all the way. Building on the OM1 may have been a good choice from that point of view. We don't know what OMD (JIP) is going to come up with. I share your feelings about the FW updates, but that's the new business model. Say goodbye to feature and performance updates. OMD isn't giving anything away from now on, that's clear. And your OM1 (and my OM1) will not see new features or performance enhancements via updates. If we want that, we'll have to buy the Mk II. Whether this type of business strategy is good or bad for OMDS remains to be seen. It doesn't make me feel any better about the brand, that's for sure. They had better be careful. There are a lot of cameras on the market in this price range, and the G9ii looks pretty good too, if you want to keep using your Olympus glass. When was the last time you saw a Sony Vaio?
I understand and see both u and @gregfeeler6910 point. IMO there is no need to upgrade from OM1 to OM1mII. And yes as a hybrid shooter I would love to see video performance upgrade but they clear w their path to serve the outdoor photographers and video is just an add on. But if I were me I would def make different lines as Sony as they have the potential w the amazing stabilizer and many other feature. So would be nice to see a video focus camera in the line w less photo features example.
My worry is that OMD is concentrating on such a small, specialized segment of the market. It looks like they've given up on competing on video for example. Any m.four-thirds shooter who shoots a lot of video now, would choose the G9ii. Personally, I don't care about video, because I rarely use it, but when you think about it, the OM1ii is significantly more money than the G9ii., and the video and hybrid market seems to be driving the market now. I'm tired of paying for video R&D myself, but I'm not interested in paying for video R&D and not even getting the video. Can they survive and thrive with such a specialized market? What will happen if Panasonic comes out with a G9iii that's faster and has better focus tracking? Brand loyalty only goes so far, and if OMD isn't careful, those of us with a pile of Olympus glass may make the move. It appears that they have already decided not to support the original OM1 with upgrades. Is the life cycle of an OMD camera only 2 years now? @@POVPHOTOGUY
@@jonbarnard7186 I am agree with you. It is an intresting move as I said in my video that they niching down for that segment. As far as I know stats are great. With the bigger wildlife lens. However if we see the bigger picture it might not as big as other companies but for their market they doing good so they concentrating on that things and not try to do the 'try and error' type of things. So the future will tell us was it a good move or not. I am loyal for them and most of the time I use the OM System system but as my company grow and have different area and clients I've to use different systems as well because each job has specific needs. But for me the real cameras has always be the Olympus, Fuji, Hasselblad line. The rest is no doubt great cameras, perfect cameras I can use but not feel the soul of it.
Overpriced
Compared to which other MFT 1,200mm lens? 🙂
The new OM telezoom is a full frame Sigma lens with the OM logo, which is why it is so big and heavy ......
And overpriced
If you are trying to say this it's "just" a rebadged Sigma lens, then that would be incorrect. It's been completely upgraded by OM System with new high-end glass elements, a totally different IS system that gives 2 to 3 more stops of IS with the lens only, and another stop of IS because it's SyncIS compatible with OM bodies, has the proprietary ZERO coating internally, and is compatible with both OM teleconverters. None of these things are offered by the SIgma product.
Thank you, great video.
thanks for watching and for your comment
Thanks for a well-done video. I know a lot of individuals seem to think about the needs of the individuals already in the OM system, by the many comments about how disappointed many are with this release. It’s my opinion that unfortunately they are not thinking about who OM is probably targeting with this camera which are individuals who are new to 4/3 and OM in general. From a manufacturing standpoint, the more that you give individuals in a camera in lower tiered system the less they’re going to have individuals move to their best cameras, so, there needs to be separation. It took Sony a long time in their 6000 lineup to finally get to the 6700 which gave individuals, a closer look if you will at their higher tiered cameras. If OM gave those who are complaining about this camera what they wanted, I have a feeling they would be complaining about the price then. Companies need to not only cater to the needs of those that are already use their cameras, but I believe more importantly, targeting and capturing new individuals that buy their cameras in order to keep a company solvent. If you read the comments from individuals who are new to OM or 4/3 most are pleased with the camera.
How do the EP7 colors compare to the PEN F?
tbh the Pen-F has such a vintage look vibe. A bit desaturated filmic look. No doubt it is my fav if we talking about which Olympus camera has the best color.
Is the camera a oly pen f?
yes it is
Cool, nice street camera, a good looking one also @@POVPHOTOGUY

Dear Sir, I am from India, please inform me the addresses of your shops or agencies in India with their contact number, so that I may buy this Olympus pen F camera.
What setting did you use for that spinning jujitsu shot at @7:41? Great stuff!
hey! I included all my settings to the photos. You might missed it but it is in the bottom right corner.
Which Olympus lenses are compatible with Olympus EP7? Their website is confusing and when I select the EP7, the Olymous 45mm f1.8 doesnt show as compatible. Can you or anyone confirm? Thanks
Great looking camera, and a nice review! But no EVF! for me personally this is a deal breaker!
Hi-res mode is a raw and jpeg, not jpeg only. Huge mistake dude
Loving the comedy hat.
Given that the em10 mk IV and the EP7 are similarly priced, which one would you prefer for street photography or traveling?
from a professional standpoint I would go w the M10m4 for the long run.
