    I am a native speaker and fluent in Samoan. I want to say faafetai uso. You have done a phenomenal job here breaking it down for those who really want to learn the language. My kids are half Samoan and this is a great resource for them to see the hows and whys things are the way they are. I cannot teach that part of the language. Maybe I can do a little bit of it but I would probably knock them on the head a few times before they get it, so it is best to stay off it. Please keep it up uso, malo lava faafetai.

    Hi how is “he smiles” / na te ‘ata? How is that a past tense?

    • @puledressdesigns
      @puledressdesigns 9 місяців тому

      Sorry I see it is a 3rd person, I thought “he” would be 2nd person?

    • @JacobSmith-ce8gn
      @JacobSmith-ce8gn 9 місяців тому

      Good question. “Na te” is a little funny because “na” isn’t the tense marker that sentence, “te” is. So for present tense you could say “na te ‘ata” but more often you’d probably hear “e ‘ata o ia” or even more often instead of a pronoun you’d probably hear “e ‘ata le tama/le teine” . To say “he smiled”, you could technically say “na na ‘ata” or “sa na ‘ata” but again, i think you’re more likely to heat “o ia” or just a less specific noun (le tama, le teine, le tamaloa, etc)

    • @puledressdesigns
      @puledressdesigns 9 місяців тому

      @@JacobSmith-ce8gn thank you for the quick reply and the explanation. Ah that makes sense too “e ‘ata o ia.” I’m glad you clarified that you could also use the present “na te ‘ata” too. Thank you for the videos, they’re very clear and I’m enjoying learning from them ☺️
