Yup! Took it off and installed a CPE Short Ram intake. This year has rained way more and everything fine

@@grape00jellly I got a open fender liner and I got the Shelby GT 500 front bumper and I really wanna put a cold air down there but I’m worried about rain every one says it’s a stupid idea put idk

@@loganjones3172 if you really must upgrade your intake just try looking for a shorter CAI or SRI with a box to prevent heat soak. The only reason I can get away with a SRI is because its turbo charged, once the compressed air exits the turbo its hot and goes through the intercooler then into the throttle body.

@@grape00jellly yessir I was always about the box intakes but I really really want to try it out but idk what I should do because when I put my hand down there in the fender it’s cold and the engine bay is hot idk what to do but my main worry is water any advice with water?

@@loganjones3172 You can try putting a fender liner back on but water may still come in through the front grille.

Definitely sounds like it! But it was the timing tensioner. Since then all the timing components have been changed and everythings running well 🤘

@@grape00jellly hey I know this was a while ago. I'm having very Similar sound with mine. I did the timing chain everything is tight (popped the valve cover off) lots of tension. Idles perfect no codes. But I do hear a bit of a knock slap sound occasionally around 2000 rpm. The tensioner was brand new when installed. Just wondering if the tensioner could be the problem

@@enchantedape8180 did you do it on your own? or was it a shop? these engines dont have a way to set the timing so its best to get the right tools or have someone who knows to do it.

Same I usually get a few ticks on cold starts only if it's cold out but damn his were way louder, I'm assuming we're in the begining stages of it ?

the ticking sound is normal.. usually the HPFP or the valves warming up

@@BerryM00n sounds normal, trust me you'll be able to notice the difference when the time comes for timing chain maintanence. If it has'nt been done it's just something that will come up ~100k miles.

Yess sirr! Another way to check is to remove the valve cover and look for wear marks where it would hit. VVT, Chain tensioners, Chain its self could be any one.. I just changed the whole thing +guides

It was $1250 (not including tax). I didn't have the tools or time so it was done by a Mazda repair shop, had them do the vvt, chain, guides, and tensioner

@@grape00jellly and the noise is gone? any everything is 100%? any new problems come up since then? I have a 2007 2.3 clean AF about to hit 100k mileages. Gonna over haul it. Original Owner too

@@StachMan 4k miles and so far so good... only issue now are 2 evap CELs but they dont affect driving only it cant pass smog atm

Only for the passenger side motor mount. CS solid motor mount, the rest are stock

Yeah that's one of the chain tensioners, I had it on my GTI, I got told when I took it in, I should not have been driving the car lol, surprisingly the setup of the motors aren't that different
