    It's completely subjective of course, but I would argue that there is beauty in the process, beauty in function. A well-made behind the scenes tells a story that is as compelling as the product it displays the creation of. In my opinion, the machines that make cars are more beautiful than the cars themselves and watching them operate fills me with as much satisfaction as watching a ballet. Watching the act of creation, seeing a master craftsmen assemble a pair of shoes, or a painter paint, there is beauty in this. I am a person who creates for the sake of the process, always fashioning artifacts and works of art, but not knowing what to do with final product because I did it for the pleasure of creation. I agree that simply scrolling through countless videos takes from the universe instead of adding to it, but that is a different issue than showing the beauty of process. I did like this style a great deal

    • @levihalfprice
      @levihalfprice 8 місяців тому

      That is a really good perspective that I hadn’t thought about. The analogy of the machines that make cars really makes it make sense. Thank you for watching and for your input on this different way of looking at it!

    Bang on, dude. I've been feeling apathetic to making and putting things out because it just feels like it gets lost in the sea of this corporatised "content creation" and half-baked UGC with some nobody "social media manager" doing boring radio-ad level of interesting poorly shot on their phone to make it "feel organic". It feels like all people, not just us creatives are really growing tired of the lowered bar of dopamine-seeking content and trend chasing purely to fill their funnels online and authentic stuff like this is starting to stand out again. Gotta get back to creating for the reasons we did at the start

    The social media world shifting towards creating "content" sucks IMO, but as a result of that I am spending average 3-7 minutes on social media a day as opposed to an hour+ sometimes when it was focused more on intent and creation. I dig the talking head through the B-Roll like this 🤙

  • @MeilikPepper
    @MeilikPepper 8 місяців тому

    Unfortunately, as creatives, it's hard not to fall into the trends' trap (whether for internal or external reasons); and the trends themselves have a dragging power. IMO, social media is pretty much ruining it for the creatives, when it comes to time, timing, ideas, technicalities, etc... In addition to that, the number of views or likes have become a (if not THE) criteria for evaluating an image or a video/film. I have a video on youtube with a million views. Yet, it's the least representative of my skills. It is a few minutes montage I filmed and edited of a worldwide renowned pianist during a classical music festival. The other longer format video I produced, more documentary work with sensitive social topics, the ones I include in the first place in my portfolio, have barely a couple hundreds of views. On another note, I did notice the change of approach you took in this video :). IMHO, you do whatever you feel like doing, like experimenting... How do YOU feel about this? Did you enjoy it? Do you think it fits the topic? Do you feel like doing it more often? Personally, I think such an approach depends on the topic. For this one, I see it filmed in one location, one frame, no background music no b-roll, just straight forward sharing. But that's MY opinion and how I see it! Thank you for asking for our opinion :) Cheers and keep it up

    • @levihalfprice
      @levihalfprice 8 місяців тому

      Thank you for checking out the video, and for the long and thoughtful comment! I agree about social media ruining it for the creatives, but not only that, it seems like social media is kind of ruining things haha. I enjoyed this style of video more than the talking head, I think. Even though it's a lot more work I'll probably continue this format with my future videos, at least the more narrative think-piece videos like this, the teaching videos might still be better with a talking head and B-Roll :)

    This was awesome again mate, not only the message but how it was shot too. I’m guilty of watching a lot of behind the scenes, but for me it’s to learn. And through this year I’m determined to learn more by doing, not watching. And also by shooting and making what I want, not what some metric wants. Do you post quite a bit to Instagram? I really liked the format mate, I think it worked well and felt different. So thanks for freezing for us 🥶 hope you warmed up after! Side note about movies, have you got a favorite/s?

    • @levihalfprice
      @levihalfprice 8 місяців тому

      Thanks a lot and thanks for watching the video! I think that learning by doing is the best way to do it, however learning by watching can help speed up the process immensely. BTS and tutorial videos have their place, it's hard to learn by doing if you're new and have no idea what to go out and do in the first place! XD My favourite film is Fight Club, but after that the top three that come to mind are Scream, John Carpenter's The Thing, and Fede Alvarez' Evil Dead Thanks again for watching the video!

    • @pauljakeman
