    What if you have a dog with a relatively high "prey drive," say a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He's in his yard, wearing his GPS collar, and the boundaries have been set using the app. Uh-oh! He sees the neighbor's cat across the street! Will the collar keep him in his designated yard?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 2 дні тому

      Think of the collar as a part of a training system-a tool rather than a full-fledged deterrent. If you don’t train your dogs with the SpotOn, Halo, etc…, it won’t matter what collar it is. It will go off and confuse the dog, since it has no idea what’s going on with its neck all of a sudden. With time, patience, and the training modules and guides that come with the collars, yes, your dog will heed the collar. If anything wild or out of the ordinary ever happens, you’ll be able to track your dog as well.

    Love your videos. So based on your review 3 weeks ago "SpotOn vs Halo 4 Collar: Which One Comes Out on Top?" I purchased a Halo 4. After purchasing I saw this review and was very worried. I then received and tested the collar and got similar results to yours in this video. I then video chatted with Halo and that is definitely a strong point for them. US based expert to talk with. I found out that the way I was testing the collar was not correct. The Halo customer service person informed me to make sure the orientation of the collar needs to be correct when testing. The charging port must face down toward the ground and then if manually testing holding in that configuration bounce your wrist up and down. When I tested it this way it was 100% accurate when I approached the boundaries. I will still need test on the dog for a real usage experience. But when testing the way I stated above it made a big difference.

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 5 днів тому

      I've done some testing with the Halo collar a number of different ways and it's interesting you mention that because that's exactly how I calibrate the collar when it's acting quirky. One thing that concerns me is my dogs aren't always bouncing much as they walk. They're just kind of lolligagging in one direction, and the collar's antenna tends to slide around and end up on the bottom, even if I have it to the correct tightness, allowing for two fingers to slide in between the collar and their necks. I'll look into it some more and I appreciate you bringing it up!

      The SpotOn is designed for heavy tree coverage with its Forest Mode, and it has always worked well for me under those circumstances. As far as signal is concerned, the SpotOn also has an Off-Grid mode, which allows you to create an invisible fence with zero signal. Even in flaky coverage areas, the newest SpotOn is universal, so it will always go with the strongest signal, regardless of carrier. I hope that helps! If you're interested in either of these collars, here are some additional discount offers: Save $75 on the SpotOn GPS Fence by using code 'WAF' at checkout: spotonvirtualfence.sjv.io/k0mL1d Save More on the Halo Collar: geni.us/Halo-Collar3GPS-Fence

    Great review. I have a small Beagle I take in the woods/fields every now and then to let he run and hunt. I have been working with her to go off leash and she does pretty well. A few days ago she got on what I think was a deer and would not obey commands. Eventually she did, but she put some distance between us so I want to get a GPS tracker as a backup. The features on the Tractive are just want I am looking for. My biggest concern is the size and weight. She is always wearing a harness when I walk her or take her in the woods but normally just wears her collar. So I would only be using this attached to her harness. That said would this be too bulky for her? Like I said she is a smallish Beale maybe a little over 20#. Also, would it stay attached if she gets in some brush or would it be better to secure it to the harness with some wire ties? I am concerned about the coverage under trees, but where I take her it's a combination of woods and fields with most being wide open so eventually she would get in an open area. Plus she rarely gets out of my sight so this would only be for an emergency situation...possibly never, but I want to be safe. I see there is another Tractive unit which is smaller. Do you know if the smaller Tractive works like the XL version? Let me know if you think it would be a good option for me or if there is a better one to consider.

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 5 днів тому

      I have the regular Tractive and, honestly, it's not a whole lot smaller than the XL, especially the XL Adventure. However, I also have a Tractive CAT Mini. It's designed for cats, but it might work great for a small beagle. It's 2.1"x1", rechargeable, and waterproof. Tractive doesn't function quite as well under heavy tree cover, but it does okay out in the open. For basic tracking needs, it may be perfect for your dog. If you decide to purchase the Tractive collar, here’s the link: geni.us/tractive-dog

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 5 днів тому

      Yes, the Tractive XL uses Bluetooth, which helps to increase the tracking capabilities of the device. You will have to download the app, which is available on the Google Play Store for Android devices or Apple's App store for iOS devices.

    How well does the activity tracking function work?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 6 днів тому

      Fi Series activity tracking often misrepresents an activity like a car ride for a walk and confuses play with just moving around in the yard. It does step counting okay but is generally inaccurate. It works pretty well on a car ride but, as I said, it confuses the data with something else. The Tractive struggles indoors, but is generally more accurate outside, though it still suffers from representing accurate data when the dog is in an area with weak signal coverage.

      @@WorldAnimalFdn We just sent Tractive a email asking for a full refund on 3 trackers and 3 subscriptions as they are a really bad company for customer service. And if your in a forest forget it you cant track anything. This company has zero phone support and zero live chat and will put one price on facebook and another price on the website and refuse to price match the difference telling you to send everything back and you pay shipping for a full refund and buy again lol. So after two weeks of nothing but BS from them and really bad customer service as it took them five days to respond to a question. And when you get a email back all they did is talk in circles so we asked for a full refund as they act like a HOOD RAT company. So after more homework on dog trackers we moved to a Germin GPS dog tracker as its better quality and not overpriced subscriptions and they have real customer service. Yes garmin is more money to buy but yearly subscription is way less by over $100. And Garmin is way less BS and its not like dealing with Tractive the hood rat poor customer support company. I expect I will have to put in a complaint with the BBB on Tractive as they are that bad so I expect to have to fight to get our money back after 2 weeks of owning their crap I cant recommend them at all if you want a inch of customer support or want to track your dogs in a forest. Your really overpaying for the subscription with Tractive and after a few weeks I really hate this so called company as they have put us though so much BS. DO not buy from Tractive they are so bad with customer service and rip people off.

    Hi there! This is such a great detailed video. I’ve been thinking about getting one of these collars for my Aussie. We don’t have a big yard but there’s a big park nearby our house and would love to use the collar there when we would go on walk and would love for him to just run around. Would any of the collars work for that particular area only and not our yard? Thanks! 😊

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 10 днів тому

      Yes, either will work for that application. You can build an invisible fence wherever you want. The SpotOn has a minimum limitation of 1/2 an acre squared, while the Halo has a 30'x30' minimum. However, the Halo isn't as accurate as the SpotOn and requires a subscription for containment, whereas the SpotOn does not. You only need a subscription with the SpotOn if you need to use the tracking features. If you decide to purchase any of these collars, here are some discounts: Save $75 on the SpotOn GPS Fence by using code 'WAF' at checkout: spotonvirtualfence.sjv.io/DKYEdq Save an Extra $25 on the Halo Collar: www.pntra.com/t/2-569943-286521-281980

    What is the cost breakdown and comparison for additional collars?

    • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 12 днів тому

      Halo knocks off $50 for each additional collar. You also don't need to add more subscriptions for different collars, as long as you're using the same plan, same app. SpotOn also offers a discount for additional collar purchases ($100 off) and you don't have to pay a subscription to use SpotOn collars for containment only. However, if you have multiple SpotOn collars and use tracking for both, each requires its own subscription. For containment purposes, however, you can use multiple collars for no additional cost. If you're interested in either of these collars, here are some additional discount offers: Save $75 on the SpotOn GPS Fence by using code 'WAF' at checkout: spotonvirtualfence.sjv.io/k0mL1d Save an Extra $25 on the Halo Collar: geni.us/Halo-Collar3GPS-Fence

      @WorldAnimalFdn 20 днів тому

      I do. I think the SpotOn is hands and feet above the other competition. Plus, I don't have to pay a subscription for it, just to keep my dogs contained within the invisible fence. Overall, it's just more consistently accurate, regardless of the topography, than any other collar I've worked with. I was really excited about the Halo Collar 4, but it still couldn't match the SpotOn in terms of consistency. Unless something changes (and I'll be sure to make a video about it), I recommend SpotOn over the competition. • @WorldAnimalFdn
      @WorldAnimalFdn 20 днів тому

      One is your smartphone or simply ‘your’ location and the other is the collar. It doesn’t really matter where your icon is, unless you’re testing the accuracy of the collar but, usually, yours will be inside while the dog’s icon will be outside. The SpotOn operates a little differently when not being used specifically for tracking.

      The tones are very high frequency, almost too high for humans to hear. however, dogs have far more sensitive hearing in our range and can hear sounds up to 66,000 Hz, well above the capabilities of human ears. Unless you're aware of any hearing issues, I can't imagine they don't hear it. Some dogs react differently, however. My female dobie tucks her tail and tries to go inside when the SpotOn goes off. My male dobie's ears flick back and forth, but that's the only indication he gives that he's actively hearing it. SpotOn optimizes the collar's sounds specifically for dogs and you can't change it. You can, however, change the vibration and shock intensities. I found that vibration works better on mine than sound. I hope that helps and let me know if you find a key combination of sounds/vibrations that works!

    I gotta say you helped me ditch the idea of chain link or invisible fence… I’m definitely going with a GPS fence .. but I got to decide which one I like better … you’ve done both companies justice .. you’ve promoted them both (almost ) too well … thank you cuz no matter which one I go with I have real world input from you and not just what a website says .. not that either company would lie but 1st hand (fair) user review of each is so great .. keep up the good work

      The SpotOn is easily the best of the bunch. It consistently tests better than any other collar I have. The Halo struggles with cloud coverage, tree density, and buildings. It functions decent and it will send you alerts, but they might be delayed or slightly off. On a good day, it's fast and accurate. Unfortunately, not every day is a good day. The SpotOn has been consistent for me throughout all the reviews, testing, etc. It's more expensive, but you don't have to pay a subscription as long as you are using it for containment and not tracking a lost dog. Plus, you can set up unlimited fences with it, without paying anything additional.

    I just wanted to thank you for posting this … I love my dog but don’t want to build a fence around the landlords property to be able to let him walk or run around the yard … you answered almost all my questions except one I really wanted to know .. I seen a subscription where you can set up, up to 5 GPS fences so I was wondering if you know about that and do you need the puck you were talking about for all of them .. say like my house was one and a park we go to that I like to let him run at at night … thanks again

      For the Halo, it just depends on the subscription tier. I've never needed more than the Bronze plan with five virtual fences. All you need is the collar and the app and you can set them up wherever you like. I have two set up in Florida and one up in Tennessee. I only have to use the one every Christmas or Thanksgiving for about a week and it's right there where I left it lol. I'm not sure what the 'puck' is referencing but all you need is the collar and the app. If you're talking about the beacon, you don't need it to set up any fences. It functions as a keep-out zone, with its own spherical invisible barrier. You can also use it to deactivate a collar like if you want to hook the beacon to your keychain, you can take your dog for a walk on the leash. As long as you have your keys with you, the collar is deactivated for the walk, so you don't have to take it on and off. Hope that helps!

    My Aussie runs through my Halo. I men to have a Amazon reboot shock collar on her to keep her in the yard. It's one of them stronger?

    I have a long and narrow yard that is approximately 50 feet wide at the start, 100 feet long, and 25 feet wide at the end. I don’t think a circular layout would work for containment. Can I place the boundary markers outside the fence? At what distance from the boundary do the warning signals start for the dog-5 feet or 10 feet? I need this information because my yard is quite narrow. Thank you!

      The Halo 4 collar alerts between 7 and 10 feet in ideal conditions, while the SpotOn is advertised as 10 feet within the invisible fence, in ideal conditions. In my experience, it's more like 5 to 6 feet, but you also have to deal with fence drift and a minimal size limitation for the SpotOn, which is 1/2 acre². The Halo 4 Collar's minimal limitation is 30-feet²
