Checking Out a NEW Step Up at Blankets Creek | Van Michael Trail
Welcome back to the channel! In this video, my main goal was to go explore the Van Michael Trail in hopes of finding and attempting a new step up jump I recently heard about. This jump may be a few months old at this point, but it was the first I have heard of it since I have not ridden VMT in about half a year. I went to warm up first on The Holler and got humbled really quickly on a sizeable gap jump.
I need to fix my camera angle from what I was using in this video, as I am still figuring out the best angles/settings on my new camera. Hopefully this still does a good enough job of showing this amazing trail and jump. The better direction to hit the full trail is Counter clockwise. (I rode the half loop Clockwise in this video)
Thanks for watching!

Attempting This Gap Jump on my Hardtail - Blankets Creek / The Holler
Переглядів 32312 годин тому
In this video, I work on overcoming my fear of this pretty decent sized gap/double at Blankets Creek on THE HOLLER. Ever since I first laid eyes on this jump about a year and a half ago, I knew I had to clear it one day. Today was the day to give it a shot. The lip is pretty steep for how long the jump is, and the landing does not look very forgiving at all.. This is filmed on my new GoPro Hero...

    Great job on the video and overlays indicating each run angle. The helmet is completely different, I'm not sure if it's on top, or full face chin mount. The chest mount looks higher quality, I noticed the low light shake...do you have this over pads? Under or no pads? The Hero 9 is awesome, Max lens might help, but I've seen that shake some. Build the dream, Tony has the same Kona as you, same camera with the Max lens, that might help for researching similar areas/setups. We gotta get together soon I actually was counting on Wed...but, the rain. So... your killing it on these jumps, awesome riding! However tight the chesty is, try two things. First double how tight it is, chest first then shoulder straps and if it's not helping, barely tighten them. The Hero 7 I had to tighten beyond belief, the 11 not as much and your 9 might be the same way... hope this helps but dude, badass job riding!

    • @CoastinWithNick
      @CoastinWithNick 20 днів тому

      Thank you for the feedback! I did take your advice from a while ago and tightened the chest mount. I did notice it have less shakiness than before when I used it, but it could probably be even tighter! Also I am just wearing it over a shirt with no pads. I have a feeling I could adjust some setting and it also make a difference. I really appreciate it, and hopefully we can ride soon after this rain passes! Also, the helmet mount used in this video is under the visor of my full face. Before in some videos I was using a chin mount for the full face (which I preferred that view) but it keeps coming off of the helmet with the 3m tape. So I’ll have to figure out how to get that to stay for good

      @@thanopayne2172 that’s wild! I’ve never come across one while I’ve been out riding yet, but I’m sure it’ll happen one day. Good to hear there wasn’t an issue for you though! Thanks for watching.

    Nice job man! Are the PNW bars aluminum or carbon? I hit up Vodoo and Mumbo Jumbo last week, the heat and humidity is torture. Allatoona Creek Park is huge, I have yet to ride these flow trails, thanks for sharing this!

      @@Mtbdrumrunner Thanks man, I appreciate it! They are the aluminum bars, for some reason I don’t feel comfortable with carbon handlebars haha, but I may be overthinking it! Dude, you’re not wrong about the heat! It’s brutal doing any climbing right now, so mostly I’ve been sticking to the flow lines and working on my jumping more, and Pitner/allatoona is a great place to do so! I mean even all of their XC trails are great and I enjoy the variety. You have to check out the flow lines sometime for sure, especially MoFlo! It’s basically a downhill pump track with the option to get some air if you want to!

      @@CoastinWithNick hell yeah man! Definitely need to check out moflo and the updated Pitner area, been too long. When I finished Vodoo, the temperature was 91, at almost 9pm, heat index like today, 109, pass! But I need to do more flow stuff. I understand the aluminum preference, lots of people prefer it. The Jeffsy I was recently gifted has aluminum bars, 31.8mm and 780mm wide. The old school Klein has freaking renthal carbon 35mm and 770mm wide. Both 40 rise. I figured bigger wheels and travel full suspension the aluminum bars would be great, for now it works, what's crazy is that Klein is stiff, 100mm travel 26 and you feel everything, hand fatigue was gone after the carbon bars, the Jeffsy, I feel it. Could be years if drumming who knows, great riding as usual man, keep it up!!

      @@Mtbdrumrunner that’s very interesting about the carbon bars helping with the hand fatigue! I didn’t even know that would be one of the benefits, but I will look into that more now! The Jeffsy looks awesome man, I’ve never been on a full suspension but I’m sure it eats up the roots and rocks on the trails like they’re nothing! I’m actually looking to get a dirt jumper bike for the pump track and to maybe try riding in skate parks, and just more jump practice. It would be cool to ride sometime together! I mean we ride the same local places haha

      @@CoastinWithNick yeah absolutely man, I'm still getting used to it, the timing going into turns and brake timing, and confidence. On Gnarnia, I got past a spot I didn't know I was already at on the Jeffsy, and you just have to keep going. At the beginning I went too fast and braking made it worse, all wheel size judgement. Dirt jumper would be right in line with your riding and would be fitting. I have to get past the mental hesitation/fear of smooth flowy trails. It's from falling, and if I do any drops/jumps now, my arms don't work in unison, it's as one side is hitting early, every time, so I just hesitate, gotta get over it. The last purposely mislabeled video I did (unsanctioned area), the first two minutes, that's my strength now, it's weird, used to be the opposite. If you've never done a night ride, you should, I have extra lights, sometimes I get to Blankets Creek pretty late, get into a zone, and end up getting stuck in morning rush hour 😆... But I'm all up for doing a ride together, this time of year I'm either smashing a ride or it's smashing me, no middle ground!

      @@CoastinWithNick oh and the carbon, it felt weird at first, but yeah, it just works. The only drawback is the Klein is 24 years old, with the stem/bar setup as is, the geometry is skittish on downhills, Jeffsy takes care of that. Here's the best part, the Jeffsy has Assaigais with tubes, and the front tire is on backwards, I just get to the trail, forget, and I'm like, next time! Tubeless with proper rotation would change a lot!

      There are 2-3 different trails, which aren’t marked the best and can be confusing. But total they are around 2 miles, and there are many optional features and lines off of the main trails!
