I have greased mine twice with roughly 8000 miles. It came with red tacky grease .first I used valvoline 100% synthetic (black) .it didn't fail just moved away from critical components. Second time with valvoline extreme red with tacky properties and has stayed quiet now for a longer duration .I am sticking with extreme red for now

#1 never touch the rotor. it is bent or warped easily apply grease [of the correct type,Not automotive wheel bearing grease] with a tooth brush or similar small brush tool. only {lightly} grease the gears teeth and the teeth in the hub [more is never better] grease in the gasket groove [yup same syn grease used on the gears] do so lightly [Q-tip(?)] just a nice sealer to keep the dust out and renews the gasket [also aids in future disassembly] on the wheel bearings? then automotive wheel bearing grease is ok. please clean the rotor BEFORE it goes into the caliper. I use isopropyl alcohol, a good brake cleaner that leaves no residue is also fine. I just use the Iso alcohol because I have it from cleaning computers & other electronics. it works :) yeah yeah a little dielectric grease on the wire connectors is a good idea [lightly coat] then assemble. helps seal them & the Important thing is easy to take apart next time. [a nice touch]

Why don't you use gear oil (e.g. viscosity 140) instead of the grease? The grease will be off the teeth in a short time - and only on the sides of the gears (but it doesn't do any good there) ...

so why dont we drill a small hole about 3 inches out from the center, on the brakes disk side into the side of the hub. be carefull and use high speed and break thru real easy then put white lube in with syringe and stick a piece of whatever in the hole afterwards. thats what i am going to do a film it for youtube so you millennial can pass it on. this fall on youtube kids.

nylon on metal does not realy need grease , It looks nice though .. Anyway the grease is gone from any actual bearing surfaces within a few meters of use ... thats why vehicles use oil baths continuously flushing the wear surfaces. Grease points are for non fully rotating surfaces like stearing bushes.. they need a top up regular.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. I added another 2000 miles on it and it sounds a lot like prior to greasing it. Next time I grease the gears I'll try to get a better idea of when they return to their degreased state; it honesty may have been about 200 miles or so. A previous comment mentioned adding a grease zerk, however, that would likely cause wheel imbalance unless someone came up with a clever way of balancing such a part.

I would remove the brake caliper. In theory you could leave it on, but then you have to deal with being ridiculously careful when reinserting that heavy wheel. If the rotor strikes the caliper in a weird way you could damage either the rotor or the caliper. You could also damage the pads, thus needing to replace them. Even if you damage the pads just a bit you could end up with odd wear patterns on the brake pad. It's not worth it. Just remove the brake calipers. It does not take that much time to do.

If you mean using a battery blender, then you should be ok (with caveats). I would NEVER connect two batteries without a battery blender as that is very dangerous and could cause a fire. Also, make sure your controller is not above the 30 amp rating of the battery blender. The Ariel Rider I have has a 33amp controller (which is above the limit) and I have yet to have issues, but it is definitely pushing its limits.

@@skybeyondthelights That's going to be your call, but I did not change the controller. I have not had issues but I am careful to always make sure that it's not running hot. I have yet to have any significant heat issues. I usually wait at least 30 minutes after riding to start charging and make sure to switch off the batteries before charging as well. I keep a Google Nest smoke detector in my garage so that my other Nest detectors sound an alarm in case smoke is detected. The last thing I want is a fire in the middle of the night in my home and most of these issues will usually happen when charging the batteries. It appears you may live in hot weather so you will want to make sure its not overheating. Either way these are precautionary steps you will want to take with any other lithium ion batteries. 30 amp hours is quite a beastly battery, I presume its a triangle battery on the regular X-class and not a step thru? Best of luck, it's well worth it in my opinion.
