    Great video!!! I know this is a three year old video, but to you know if this was a 2.0L TDI or as it pertains to the heater core does it even matter. I have a 2013 Passat 2.0L TDI doing exactly what the owner said this one was doing and I know it is either the heater core or blend doors. Thanks again for this video!

      In the video you can see the engine cover it says it’s a 2.5. I’m not sure if the heater core is the same.

    2014 Passat TDI. Went without much heat last winter while waiting for the dealer to get a core to replace under warranty. Now that winter is here again, we’ve realize that we STILL only have partial heat. (For us, passenger side is better.) Now the deal wants $300 for the blend door actuator and $1,300 for labor. No way, when I can buy the OEM part for $135 or a knock-off for $39. BL;DR: if you need to replace the core, do the stupid actuator at the same time.

    Hey man, thank you. This is a great idea. I think something is wrong with my heater core (I already replaced $1000 worth of stuff on my Chrysler 200 this month) All of the sudden two days ago now I have some wetness where my gas pedal is and my windshield keeps fogging up, almost like a vapor coming out of the dash vent. And then I was in the Home Depot parking lot and I was like “ Oh, I’ll just bypass the heater core. I live in Florida” and I just connected the hose like a circle near the airbox. Car was still overheating and I noticed that it runs from the heater core to the oil cooler. So I couldn’t do that! Worst car design ever.

      You need 2 remove all air from the HC. Park the car on an extreme up angle. Open the radiator cap, allow the car to run and heat up and the air will escape naturally!!

    I may be wrong but you say screw #2 is black wire but the video shows a white wire.

    • @pjhorn5307
      @pjhorn5307 Рік тому

      It’s hard to see initially but if you look closely there is a black wire there. It’s the hot wire coming from the breaker box. That white wire you see there is an internal wire for the switch. Sorry about the poor video quality.

    @pjhorn5307 do i need to disconnect the battery when pulling panels?

  • @tibork3845
    @tibork3845 Рік тому

    I just completed this on our 2011, one extra step, the kick panel under the steering wheel goes over and behind the center console side panel so had to loosen the center console. Four bolts on the bottom of the console compartment then lift up the back end of the console, this allows an easier removal of the kick panel. You do not need to disconnect the hoses on the firewall, just put a large plastic garbage bag open under the pipes where you cut them, it catches the coolant and really there isn't much coming out at all once you drain the coolant. My replacement core was also slightly bigger than the original so the last couple of inches had to use a wood block and rubber hammer to fit it in but other than that this worked, we have hot air coming out both sides now. A bit more work than I thought, totaled 3 and half hours for me. Thank you!
