Prior to the actual D-Day ceremony began, the event's supporters were acknowledged. As an amateur videographer, who's clips have promoted/supported the Museum, I can address scenes that the news networks don't and the photographers can't. No rolling tanks, no firing cannons or machine guns in this one. Just the people who make the Museum and its events possible.

Company H, 119th New York Infantry Regiment held its 2011 annual encampment at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. I have a long history of preserving the events held here. In the years before I recorded with a digital Sony camcorder I recorded with a Sony digital tape recorder. The format was 4:3. The resolution is nowhere near what is being recorded today (HD or 4K). However the memories of the...

New York Fleet Week brings the US Navy's and US Marines' helicopters to Eisenhower Park each year. Joining them is the US Navy's Northeast Brass Band. Bright tunes, entertainingly performed. Have a listen to their jamming.
i visited today hoping to check out the Battery but the fences were closed. is it only open on specific days?
I’m only 1/2-way through and it’s amazing how many of those airlines no longer exist. TWA Eastern PanAm USAir Air Florida Northwest Republic/North Central Continental Piedmont Pilgrim Airlines NY Air Empire And 2 L-1011’s - TWA and Delta. At LGA. Plus an AA DC-10. Incredible. This is most enjoyable!
Wahnsinn… my old ‘hood, my old Bergziege… Bull’n, alles da. Bloß kaum Menschen. a Traum!😊
I was 3 years old when this video was shot lol
Le mie crociere spettacolari
Excellent, and very informative!
Glad it was helpful! And happy that you enjoyed watching it.
Great video Chris

It was a great day, you need more Marine Corps representation
For years there was a representative who spoke in depth about the war in the Pacific and brought display items. The is a military timeline scheduled for 5/15-16. Possibly he will be there then.
Scotland forever
Helicopter 🚁🚁🚁🚁 driver take care ❣️❣️❣️❣️
Thank you
@22:21 - I can't understand that sign, but I bet it says something like "No passengers allowed in the front of the cabin."
Great stuff!!!!
Excellent video Chris
Thank you
this is scare, my cat is sad
hah
thanx Chris!!! looks great!! good camera angle...but...the uniforms of the GI's are pacific theatre!!LOL...thanx
The "frog skin" pattern uniform was not specific to the pacific theater. Some infantry units did use the pattern in France early in the war, (it was originally intended to become the standard uniform) however it was phased out in the European theater due to it being too similar to German camouflage patterns.
@@o7TailWhip Kevin usually explains this to the audience as he describes what is going on. Thanks for this follow up.
Those are not Usmc uniforms 😂
@@41st_reenactor_1 The are US Army, not US Marines.
liked the bullets across the top
Ah, the power of green screen.
Very enjoyable and informative. Every inch of every building shown here (1982) is now gone. The runways are pretty much the same, though. That same year but in the winter, I flew on a Delta L-1011 from Atlanta to LaGuardia. We landed at night, during a snowfall, with low overcast, on Runway 4. The plane completed rollout and turned off prior to the Runway 13 intersection, a roll of only about 4,700 feet despite the wet, slightly snowy runway. What an amazing airplane and pilot performance.
thank you for this ! I was living near the harbour and working in the harbor at that time. ^^
I was stationed at Monteith Barracks in Furth from '82 - 84 and what you show is what I saw, just amazing. Served in the US Army. and I have to return to Nuremberg around Christmas time.
vielen Dank 👍🙏
wow
Awesome 👍
thanx Chris...watched it all
Thank you. Remember the airlines, aircraft like it was yesterday. My first airline flight solo as a kid was via USAir DC-9-30 and BAC-111, August 8, 1981. During the PATCO strike.
I danced as the returning 1982 tango and all around champion , I don’t see the battle of the champion here !

great spot
Ah yes, the days when the LGA terminal building smelled like body odor and cigarette smoke, the walkways felt like an overcrowded high school during class change, the bars were standing room only. Memories...
Great time capsule of my home town, which I had left 2 years before this video was made (though I have been back many times since). Other than the incredibly racist joke the boat captain tells at 17:00 (for which he would be fired instantly nowadays), it's a riveting document.
Thank you.
How fast 42 years goes by
❤️ I was in my early 30's when I recorded this. I turned 75 this past March.
Great coverage of the parade
Ronald Reagan was at the controls
Wow! Back in the days when jetliners were noisy, and the airlines were numerous before the mergers to come or just go out of business. All that's missing here is the smell of jet exhaust. Thanks for sharing this trip back in time!
I didn't want to pay for airport parking, so I found a spot on a local street across the Grand Central Parkway and schelped the portable VCR and video camera to the observation deck.
I remember visiting the LGA when I was young in the good ole days. There was a observation deck and entry was only 10 cents I think. No security and walk around freely. I miss flying on TWA.
Living in Flushing meant the LGA was the easiest airport to fly out of. I miss Eastern Airlines, because that connected me to my retired parents in South Florida.
This is precious. Thx. I flew out of there almost a year prior than this 8.18.81 on an American Airlines DC-10 wide body. I remember it like it was yesterday. Great to see all the old airlines and equipment. Cheers.
The video sat in a VHS cassette for decades until I learned video editing and started my UA-cam Channel. I enjoy the responses I continue to receive. So Thank You.
This is great. I was 10 years old when you took this vid and my parents would take me to LGA sometimes, but mainly JFK to watch planes. I remember vividly parking on the side of the road leading into JFK just to watch the planes for an hour or so. wow. What a flashback.
In later years my parents joined a beach club on the south shore of Long Island. One road leading to it was in the flight path to JFK. My father drove as I watched a Concorde pass directly over us.
Wow. Awesome. I lived on the north shore and was basically on the long final approach for one of the 22 runways, so I'd watch all sorts of planes, including Concordes go over our house. I also remember that 727s would seemingly always be the next plane to come in after the Concordes. Good times.@@chrislauterbach8856
Look at the size difference between the Seahawk and Sea Dragon.
The downdraft from the rotor blades knocked most of us over despite the fact that were were on the safe side of the security fence.
Get to da choppa.
Need a time machine, go back on the deck, with my digital DSLR, (not film camera rolls of 36), and also reminis those days of no security, no questioning, freedom of speech. You kids today are enslaved sorry to say.
My Queens College major was Mass Com. (The Fordham cap is my daughter's) That included TV production. As soon as I could get a portable VCR and video camera I bought one (Panasonic/RCA). I still shoot stills, but they are meant to be B roll footage for my video.
JT8Ds rules the airline world then !
I loved watching all the various planes taxiing, landing and taking off. Being at the airport was exciting in itself.
So much more interesting than today's (2024) boring lineup.
JFK now offers a way to view the planes from the refurbished former TWA terminal. I must try it one day.
People still dressed decent back then. But if your had pajamas on and tried to board a plane, you would have been stopped and committed to a mental institution....
When I was a boy we flew to Miami for a Florida vacation. I wore a sports jacket on board. It was a NorthEast Airlines DC-6B.
Thank you so much for doing this I very rarely get a chance to see the show because I don’t have anybody to take photos or video
I loved these when they were held. Nothing like taking the LIRR and A train to the Middle Ages. I specialize in event/encampment/reenactment videos. If the Middle Ages isn't your thing, I can take you to the American Revolution, The Civil War, The W1812, WWI & WWII encampments and battles. And Many Thanks.
I loved Eastern's paint scheme. Tasteful and understated regality.
Thanks for stopping by.
Nice
I need to add a camera or camcorder with better low light video capabilities, but got to watch the $ at the moment.
