Syncourse - Preset Demos
We have just released Syncourse - a "very digital take on an analog classic", the Pearl Syncussion SY-1.

Syncourse is my first attempt at a new style of effects/plugin development; re-imagining classic devices in a new light. You can almost think of it as a "hardware remix", or a re-imagining, rather than an emulation, because it's very much not trying to sound exactly like the original - but still be able to cover a lot of the same ground, with a familiar interface and control set.
Syncourse is aimed at experimental sound designers, techno producers and prople who generally obsess over percussion. It's a new tool in your musical tool chest, to sculpt sounds that are hard to come up with on more traditional synthesizers.

    Just ordered the Mk. II with all the updates (LED, USB-C, Profiles) from germany and can give some additional monetary information: it was 183€ to buy, 20€ shipping and 60€ in customs. If that was the price going in, then I'm not sure if I had bought it. Regardless, I think I will enjoy the purchase. Will update once I get it on my hands.

      @@HOBBITSODYSSEY I think you can find all the answer on the product page: ghostnoteaudio.uk/products/conductor In short: editor works online, in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. It's hosted on GitHub and is open source. Second, the button on the front panel toggles between three different settings/banks for the faders, which can be reprogrammed using the editor. And as for setting it up - no drivers or installation needed, and we have video tutorials on the site for getting it added in Reaper, Live and Studio One (see "Setting up your DAW" on the product page). Hope that helps.

    I had one of the Decade amps during my senior year in high school. I graduated in 1981, so I think these amps were out by 1980, at least. I used to plug my guitar straight into the board of the Peavey PA system we had at our school, cranked ip the gain and reverb, and it was awesome. Sometimes, I would run my Decade preamp out into it. Fun times!

  • @stephenmarsh3986
    @stephenmarsh3986 Місяць тому

    The saturation circuit was used in many of Peavey's 80's (aluminium side panelled) amps until they introduced Transtube. If you take the time to dial in lower distortion settings in standard tuning on those older amps you can get some really fine bluesy and rock tones which are great in a mix, something I'm sure the Century pedal could easily emulate. Being appreciative of PV amps it's great to see the circuits in a recording friendly format, just match the pedal with a suitable speaker emulation and bingo. 🖖

    There's something I don't understand. When the gain button is at its full, you have a very limited gain. Where as on the amp, when the button is at noon, it's already breakinf the walls. Could you improve it ?

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio Місяць тому

      @@TheoreticalLimit I'm not sure why you got that impression. Even with the gain set to half, these pedals are already in "rip your head off" territory :) They are extremely high gain, just like the original amp (exact circuit replica)

    • @TheoreticalLimit
      @TheoreticalLimit Місяць тому

      @@GhostNoteAudio It's from what we hear and see on your video. With the gain button full wide open, we only hear a moderate distortion. With the gain at noon, we only hear an overdriven sound. It sounds like it's the clean channel of the ampeg (the green one). Maybe your pedal has the second channel. I don't know. Please let us know. Unless your guitar pickups are extremely and outrageously weak. That's the only point that actually stops me to buy it; I'm not convinced by its gain capacity, according to what we see and hear from this demo.

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio Місяць тому

      @@TheoreticalLimit There are some parts where I played and the volume knob on the guitar was rolled down, and some where I was using split coils. Also, playing technique has a lot to do with it, I vary from playing very soft on some bits and hard on others. But if you want to get a sense of the maximum gain, have a look at 5:59 - 6:29. And no, it is based on the Red Channel A, the higher gain channel.

    • @TheoreticalLimit
      @TheoreticalLimit Місяць тому

      @@GhostNoteAudio I looked at the entire video and the gain is still really moderate comparing to all the head demos, and the one I played many years ago. That's really strange if it's based on the channel B. The preamp sounds good here, except this apparent lack of gain. I see two possibilities : - the guitar output is weak, then it's need a proper demo (the other one, with the schecter, is not convincing too). - the gain staging has an issue, which can be surely fixed. I assure that my goal is not to be negative. Your preamp seems to sound good, except, that one thing, but absolutely essential, that make hesitates to buy. From what we see and hear, there's an improvement that can be done. Or, you can also show us in a demo how far the gain can really go.

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio Місяць тому

      @@TheoreticalLimit I'm sorry the video isn't portraying it well, but all I can do is tell you; there is no issue with the gain staging, the pedal has an exceptional amount of gain, and matches exactly with the high gain channel of the VH140c.

    Does it only emulate MOSFET clipping or did you use real MOSFET in it?

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio Місяць тому

      The original Marshall Lead 100 MOSFET is so named because it uses MOSFET transistors in the power amplifier. The preamp is entirely op-amp based. Our pedal only emulates the preamp section of the amp, so no mosfets used or emulated. The power amp in the original Marshall is actually quite clean and uninteresting, they only really slapped MOSFET in the name for marketing purposes, as back in the 80s, many manufacturers tried to associate them with loudness and power... - but all the character that makes the amp unique comes from the preamp :)

  • @emulgatorx
    @emulgatorx 2 місяці тому

    Very cool, love it! By just drilling a few holes and some soldering, one could add foot-switchable I/O jacks and a small power supply for convenience. I think the price is also quite fair. Pity that the shipping to Germany is as much as the pedal, plus VAT, plus the fee to the shipping company for collecting the VAT which basically spoils the whole deal. Let me know if you have a Germany (or at least EU) based retailer.

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio 2 місяці тому

      @@emulgatorx yes it's unfortunate that shipping lower value products is difficult (unless you're shipping from China), the cost of the unit gets drowned out by the cost of shipping. I'm mainly targeting this at the domestic market here in the UK, where shipping is cheaper, or as an add-on sell for people buying my pedals. I've started looking for EU distributors though, so maybe you'll find my products stocked locally in Germany before the end of the year :)

    200 quid for three faders puts you up against Monogram. But Monogram seem rarely to have the stock to ship, so maybe you'll be okay.

    • @GhostNoteAudio
      @GhostNoteAudio 2 місяці тому

      It does. Although it was 169, and now price is reduced to 149. However, the Monogram is more tailored towards video editing, and several features set these two units apart. But the features I wanted our design to have, that the Monogram does not: * Single unit, no "master module" required. * Plug and play, no proprietary software required. * Long-throw, 100mm faders (Monogram is 60mm). * Class compliant Midi-over-USB, making it work with non PC/Mac host devices (like hardware sequencers). * Grippy and doesn't slide around on your desk. Will stay put if you place it on your master keyboard. If any of these features appeal to you, then consider our product. If the modularity of the Monogram is a desireable feature, and you want to combine more modules to make your own custom interface, go with the Monogram. Their design is very sleek! A lot of people are liking the 100mm faders, that's probably the main selling point of the unit, but I've also had people complain that it's too long to be comfortable for them. If you have small hands, shorter faders might be more suitable. We're just here to offer options, but people seem to like what we offer 😀

    Congratulations on your success, and thank you for your clear strong work ethic! It's enjoyable to hear that the person behind a product I'm interested in is invested in improvements. I was going to purchase today, but this suggests I might benefit from waiting for future planned updates. In response to this video, what I would recommend as far as motorized faders are concerned is perhaps a small upper right "Update" button (your pointer finger could easily reach) that allows the person to choose when they want the fader to "read" what the present channel data is and then move to adjust. This way there is no surprise changes or constant updating issues, and all it takes is a 'tap' of the button to get the fader to update and move to the channel's CC reading exactly when the user needs it to. Just a thought.

    Great recording. Love this demo track. After several trials, I found out that the max ouput level from the monitor output of my Focusrite 2i2 gen2 is actually lower than the level of my guitar (passive but hot humbucker). So the trick is to use the headphone out at max volume which actually corresponds to my guitar output volume (input track volume trimmed to stay in the 'green' zone). I went direct from headphone out (left) to tube preamp input (Synergy) and back to input2. Did not need a transformer actually. Finally I did a comparison of a direct recording vs reamped in this way and it was nearly indistinguishable. By the way Reainsert seem a cool method to reamp but I would probably need a bigger interface..

    Excellent sounds. But is there a chance of the IRWorkshop ever becoming a vst plugin?

      It's in the works :) I've got a couple other projects to wrap up but I've been working on a new plugin which takes the majority of what IR Workshop does, and adds a bunch of the methods that I developed for this project. I'm hoping to get it released before the end of the year.

      @@GhostNoteAudio Good to hear. I'll probably exclusively use that for cabinet simulation when it comes out 😆. What's weird to me is that IRWorkshop is a pretty powerful and creative tool. And you/you guys released it 7 years ago apparently, and the first time I hear about it is in this video. That too as an offhand mention.

    I cannot believe that the day I try my new laptop and install cloudseed is the same day that this released, it was such a shock to see haha, this reverb is incredible and i've been in love with it for years

    1/5 of my payslip 😮? I do like that plugin but I will stick to free version.

      The personal license is 39 pounds. I don't know what the minimum wage is in the Netherlands but your argument doesn't quite seem right :) - but indeed, you can use the plugin without limitations until you're ready and able to buy a license. I'd much rather offer a good free option than for people to resort to piracy.
