    I'm having a terrible time finding that water temp sensor (aka 'thermistor') only finding them on eBay which means they are used, and sometimes take a while to ship. I have a Kenmore gas water heater, Honeywell valve and my unit is flashing 5 error code. It will run intermittently but only on the 'hot' or below setting and it only heats up a small amount of water before cutting off. I am 99.99% sure it's that temp sensor he just popped out. If anyone can share a link for the ones they've found, I would appreciate it. I thought I could find an electrical supply store or something locally but so far nothing. It looks to me like an intentional design flaw to get you to buy a new Gas Valuve or even a whole new water heater since paying someone to install the valve would likely cost about 1/2 to 2/3 or new unit anyhoo...

    Had an intermittent temp sensor error, so I figured it was just a flaky sensor. I had watched your video (very helpful!) and knew I had everything to swap it out. I wish I had paid more attention to your discussion on the plastic vs metal tip. I didn't check beforehand and I should have. When I pulled the sensor, it was wet. :( I then had to order a whole new gas valve. I loved your tip on using a short pipe to plug the water connection so that I didn't have to drain the tank. The replacement was fairly easy then, and now I have good hot water and a couple spare parts for the gas valve since it was only the back plastic that was bad.

      @@mistyprice3400 : yeah that’s a tough procedure. Sometimes if you lay the water heater on the ground and put a wrench on the nipples cause you need somebody to hold the water heater while you put pressure on the wrench if they won’t come off, then you can put a flame or a torch on the nipples to heat up the metal, and that can help you to get them off if they’re frozen on there! Good luck thanks for watching. I think I have a couple videos about it.

It was still full of water and you could see the valve do the two flash I didn’t include it in this video so that’s for the first Service Call in the basement, but I measured that Thermo Pile voltage it was like 650 V so it could be a circuitboard problem could be the valve is going bad, I still think it’s the water have not heard from The and that was about two days ago

    So i just did this to my water heater . i smell a little gas coming from the valve itself. i did a lot of tests and it definitely coming from the valve itself. i scoured the internet for more info and it seems to be a common complaint and according to HW, its normal . some kind of vent hole . so in you opinion with all the ones you have installed, is a little gas coming from the valve normal ? thanks

    • @thewaterheaterfactory
      @thewaterheaterfactory 16 днів тому

      So I would look very closely at your valve and make sure that it’s not cracked. It’s aluminum so sometimes you get these hairline cracks and that’s how the gaskets out. Probably call your local gas company and have them just come out and do an inspection. They have some pretty sophisticated sniffers that can tell you if the gas is normal or unsafe. Sometimes you can smell the gas burning if you have a very sensitive sense of smell, but as far as a leak goes, you want to maybe try and use some soapy water or liquid leak detector and just put it all around the connections and make sure there’s no gas leaking. I typically see the gas valves cracked where the adapter screws in so that’s sort of them where the main amount of gas enters the valve that would be the middle upper left side where the flexible gas line connects to the adapter. Sometimes people put too much Teflon tape on there and they tighten it down and it cracks it right at that point.

    So replacing the burner assembly is a short term fix because it does not address the issue of the leak that caused those holes over time. Wouldn't a new burner will also be damaged over time due to the leak ?

    • @thewaterheaterfactory
      @thewaterheaterfactory Місяць тому

      Of Course - Its condensation that falls onto the burner when the gas (fuel) is igniting usually only lasts for the first 30-40 mins the water heater is running once it reaches temperature the conditions for condensation change but its different with every water heater - depends on engineering and location of water heater temperature of water ext. - I don't prefer the Ultra Low nOX burner Assembly's for that reason the screens are susceptible to erosion damage.

      @@thewaterheaterfactory thats the spirit ! I thought about tankless service as well not sure how much a basic flush goes for probebly 150 to 200 its an hour of time and vinegar or cleaning solution around 20 bucks my guess I got a pump that i use for pumping out tank water heaters when they wont drain on change outs which I highly recomend if the drain gives trouble easier to pump it out

    Nice I started collecting parts plus got my first job on repair not really trying to make a killing or anything I just only worked on them a few times in 35 years or so . I installed a scatch and dent for a neighbor 9 years ago its a 12 year A/O smith well it hasent been lighting even holding butten down Anyway , I hear other plumbers complaining that these warrantys aint worth a damn so to hewlp my neighbor I called the warranty number they sent me a new valve and burner assembly and it was on my steps in under 24 hours from rancho caless than 30 miles away installed it it went perfect. I been looking for old water heaters to scavenge for parts . I could expand it to swapping anode rods and new drain valves confidence is boosting some maybe ill even make make a millivolt supply with batteries and resisters. Trying to understand the differances in the valves there is one for 1 inch tank insulation and another for 2 inch insulation you mentioned 40 gal are differant than 50s thanks for sharing too bad camera died!

      @@jeffreyplumber1975 yeah that’s how it starts. I worked on 100 gallon water heater today commercial grade heavy duty. I had to watch tutorials on the way to the job site but it helped couple videos on UA-cam because I didn’t know shit about this water heater turned out it was the damper, pinpointed it right away it was great

      @@elizabeththompson3286 yeah it’s it. It might only work for a week or two or even less but you could just keep resetting it until you come up with a better solution. I had to reset mine this morning. It only takes 60 seconds to go through the reset procedure I’ve just been too busy and too lazy to work on mine.

    I have a similar water heater giving a 7 flash code. After replacing the thermopile and the entire control valve, it's still giving 7 flashes. Is it possible for the chamber sensor to cause a 7 flash?

    • @thewaterheaterfactory
      @thewaterheaterfactory Місяць тому

      @@smolpener7430 : so replacing the thermal pile will not correct a seven flash you need to either make sure that you put a new circuit board on and a new valve body or an entirely new valve. You should not get the same code coming back. If you replace the valve entirely, you can try using the reset procedure to clear it out and then see if it comes back just so you can get hot water in the meantime my water heater at home is currently doing this to me, once every four days, I gotta use the procedure on it .

      @@thewaterheaterfactory I replaced the entire valve control with a brand new one from rheem directly. I've been resetting it fine, but it needs to be reset multiple times to get the tank up to temperature. Once the tank it heated, the light will stay blue until someone gets in the shower. After doing the 15 very high, 15 high, 15 pilot reset I found in one of your other videos, it changed from a 7 flash to a 9 flash, and I did 3 different readings on the chamber sensor that came up as 7.7k ohms, 99.1k ohms, and 64.2k ohms. If it's pertinent, after a reset the fire coming out of the burner starts off blue, then slowly turns purple, then red/orange before shutting off, all over the course of about 20 minutes.

      After restarting it regularly, by turning the knob to off and waiting for it to discharge, it ran for about 15 minutes, then it shut off and gave another 7 flash code. Another chamber sensor check is giving me 8.6k ohms, and slowly rising over time.
