The suspension may feel the way it does because it needs work somewhere. Or its actually ok, but it's just not to your liking. There's so much that can be done with that engine. Done right, it will still feel like it belongs in a luxury car, but have far more of it. You could possibly build it up to around 400hp without a supercharger, or at least 300+.

All you need is teeth for tdc on the 12 cylinders. The exhaust stroke is just a wasted spark. The timing advance map is programmed in the ECU the same for each cylinder.

Love your videos and I came across your channel a while ago and as an XJS owner myself would love to have the system myself. If you work out the bugs and get it all working you should totally develop it as a kit for us to buy. I think there's a couple others who are selling kits in Europe but no one is in the US/North America. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing as things progress.

On mine it's just a much simpler 12 tooth timing wheel with Ford coil packs and DTA engine management with throttle sensing only fuel injection and ITB intake all running from the same ECU.Dont get the complicated ignition requirement here.It just needs to know tdc at each cylinder the ECU does the rest. The advance curve doesn't change for the wasted spark on the exhaust stroke.

Just came across your channel and I've watched your last few videos. I've converted a couple of XJS is over the years in different ways including transmission/engine swaps. this build is turning out awesome! Love the videos on the planning and bumps one runs into throughout the process like this on these Jaguars. can't wait for your next videos. Have you considered buying exhaust components from simply performance? They sell different pieces and have an upgraded kit. I purchased a couple of their kits in recent years and love it! Not cheap though lol but you can buy just the rear half of their performance section etc. which would be perfect on your set up. Wouldn't cost that much since only purchasing the rear half. I suggest this because we decided to customize our exhaust initially but it was a pain in the butt and realized getting the sweet stainless parts from simply performance upgrade kit was way easier and looks gorgeous. I am very happy we went with the simply performance exhaust parts instead of full custom. We did have to go custom close to the engine as the simply performance kit follows the layout of the original system. Anyways can't wait to see more progress. oh and I have a 90 xjs and the problem with those years was the distributor cap and rotor button needed to be replaced every 30,000 miles or the Marelli ignition caused half the cylinders to ignite while not on the other half leading to a dumping fuel in the one bank into the cylinder/exhaust and then the Failing distributor cap/rotor button would then ignite erratically then igniting all the previously dumped fuel into the one bank/exhaust. It would then cause the one bank to get super hot and would often lead to engine failure. It actually happened to our 90 XJS and that's why we did an engine swap to it. They only used that ignition type for a few years because of this issue. in our example after the partial ignition failure event we had extremely low compression in that bank. It happened to us around 38,000 miles. maybe you're already aware of this phenomenon but it's very likely that's what happened to your cars engine as well. Too bad everyone didn't know this initially with these years Cars because many have been destroyed as a result. I think 1992 was the last year they put the Marelli ignition in the XJS. in my opinion they're quite reliable cars besides that main issue. Some of the older cars have a few other week points that if one is aware of and keep an ion Dan actually the factory original cars are quite reliable. Example I have a 1979 that's all original and still works well. Of course minus replacing rubber hoses and a few other rubber bits etc. but it's a shame on those Marelli ignition cars between 1989 and 1992. So many have been destroyed because of those stupid distributor cap/rotor button issues. is a cool set up though with the twin ignition coils etc. on those your cars. But since both banks have their own ignition if just one fails instead of both it's hard to tell when driving and then the failing bank burns up. Cheers from Canada!

Hello Jesse (sp) Thank you for recording your process on the 92 XJS; very helpful. I'm attempting to convert a 72 series 3 xke from carburation to EFI. I've purchased a 1988 xjs as a donor car for the needed parts which I understand will work as reference in a guide written by Roger Bywater at AJ6 Engineering in the UK. I'm finding that I'm not nearly a good enough gear head, in particular don't know enough about the electrical and electronics to potentially pull this off. I'm most concerned about getting all the needed wiring harnesses, relays, and assorted parts off of the xjs before I have a junker haul it away. (don't have the room in my garage to keep the xjs while completing the rest of the conversion. Any suggestions? Can I get you to move to So Cal for a while to help with this project? LOL

you are really plowing into some v12 swap development the complexity seems overwhelming I really appreciate your work I hope you succeed It seems The complexity comes from combining fuel , ignition and trans all at the same time. It would help if you could compartmentalize I am trying (plan stage)to use Mega-squirt v12 as well I have experience with ls XJS swaps and ms studio micro squirt(alfa spyder) But you are the pioneer in this arena no one has done what you are trying to do I salute you. Note there is a mechanic shop in Canada which has successfully swapped efi with ms2 and conventional ignition (distributor premarelli) into 1974 e-type 4spd etype was for sale on BYT did not meet the reserve

Didn't the XJS have Lucas Electrics as OEM? I had a1972 Norton Commando with Lucas Electrics, and they were garbage. The coils kept going out on me, but I found a small Toyota coil that would fit and worked fine. I had to replace the horn switch also, and numerous little issues I had to troubleshoot often. Avoid Lucas at all costs.

Hey buddy. You should have called me before going through all that welding/fabricating work. All XJS cars pre 1992 should have the mounting points on the frame for the rear sway bars (I'm basing that on the 92 engine) but conversely, the 94 to 96 rear suspension trailing arms have the rear sway bar mounting bracket required for rear sway bars - that you fabricated - but the 94 to 96 cars don't have the body mounting bolts on the frame. Yeah. Jaguars are confusing and contradictory at best. But hey, now you know.

I own 2 XJS's and have 3 V12's on the floor in my garage for various projects. I am building a track car right now and am currently in engine rebuild mode so am reviewing what others are doing on UA-cam for tips, tricks and to not forget anything. I have NOS heads new valves and such, and am working on the intakes, porting out a bit, along with the new heads. I purchased enlarged throttle bodies from Simply Peformance in the UK as it seemed an easier way to go. Other mods will include a Getrag 265 5 speed conversion, stainless headers and exhaust, performance springs and adjustable shocks, complete suspension rebuild, etc. I am interested in finding out more about the megasquirt conversion you are doing so I can move away from Lucas. The guys at Mobeck in Norway have a custom system with computer, upgraded fuel injectors etc., but it is not cheap at around 5k. Great work on your project, I really enjoy seeing what others are coming up with regarding modifying these engines, especially peformance upgrades that don't clean out your bank account. Thanks.

Some folks use a little silk string circling the perimeter along with the Hylomar or other anerobic sealant under the tappet block to help stop the typical oil seep seep from that area. Re-shimming after a valve job or change of cam is a real task taking the cam in and out as clearances are checked and adjusted... for which a shim kit /assortment is pretty much required.

I'm a little worried about the rear lip seal you showed in the video. What material and where did it come from/part number? I ask because the typical replacement unit does not look like that (seal color wise) and currently is only available , that I'm aware of, from Bently (which uses the same size).... it is a Yellow material, and is made of the correct high-speed FMK material. (That doesn't mean you didn't acquire an earlier OE seal but its pretty easy to just look up and find right shaft seal that will fit, but is rubber/nitrile and simply cannot cope with the shaft spinning at 6500+RPM. For example the Timken and SFK seals of that size that I've looked up just won't work. They specify a far lower shaft speed at that size, which corresponds to the material they're made out of.
