    Hi there! I just made my first Cocoknit sweater (Ruth) and love it. Am now making an Emma…. My question is if we change the gauge a bit and figure out the appropriate math numbers for the overall # of bust stitches how do we manage the number of sleeve stitches? Or are we just supposed to see what new size and use all the measurements (including sleeves) given there? Also, if we don’t simply follow the new size numbers how do we manage our number of decreases/increases? I would think if we are using a much larger or smaller than called for yarn those could be greatly affected…..yes? Thanks so very much!!

    • @CrazyForEwe
      @CrazyForEwe 4 дні тому

      So if you’re changing the gauge and choosing a pattern size based on the number of stitches, you need for the bust, the rest of your stitches should follow along. Because you’re changing the gauge of all of the stitches. You’re not just adding stitches for the bust, right? So let’s say instead of three stitches to the inch you’re going with four stitches to the inch and you decide that you need 40 inches around the bus so you’re gonna find the pattern that gives you 100 stitches at the bust area. That same pattern is going to scale up automatically giving you the number of stitches at the sleeve that you would get for a 40” bust sweater.

    I'm a new knitter and I've never ever everrrr met gauge... ANYONE'S gauge (not designer, yarn company recommendation, et al) so I taught myself to swatch, and recalculate based on my swatch gauge. This is also one of the reasons I've never bought a pattern, because if I have to do all these recalculations I might as well use the free patterns to learn and practice. Right now I'm working on knitting stuff I see just based on looking at it. I'm getting there 😁

Whitney - consider knitting Jason's Cashmere hat, free cable hat pattern on Ravelry, great intro to cables and hat fits most due to ribbing. Uses worsted weight yarn so it goes fast, bet you have some in your stash, LOL. I also like the podcasts where people of different shapes and sizes try on knitted garments. Always learning.

    I wonder if you can help me? I have these instructions for a wrap: "Bring yarn to front, slip the next stitch onto the right hand needle, put yarn to the back, slip the stitch back to the left needle, turn the work, put yarn to the back then continue to knit to the end of the row. Following pattern instructions ". However I get this totally confused with the pattern instructions: Having 344 stitches - Row 1: K173, wrap next st, turn. Row 2: K2, wrap next st, turn. Row 3: Knit to wrapped st, k3, wrap next st, turn. All the turns confuse me!! There seem to be turns for the "wrapping" procedure and turns for the pattern that ENCOMPASSES TURNS............................Please excuse the capitals, I'm just trying to emphasis my confusion. Are you able to clarify for me, please :-).

    • @CrazyForEwe
      @CrazyForEwe Місяць тому

      Hi there! I believe this is an example of a pattern trying to be so very clear that it’s actually more confusing. They want you to do those short rows with wrap and turns. In addition to telling you when to work the short rows, they are telling you how to do it, which is creating confusion. If you know how to do wrap and turn short rows, just do them as indicated by the actual pattern instructions and ignore the technique guidance that is added.

    Clarification: I am knitting the largest size. What about the "every 12th row"? Thank you! Your tutorial is the closest I've come to answering my following confusion. Clarification: I am knitting the largest size. The instructions I am questioning are: Row 16 (Buttonhole Row) Work as for row 2 to last 5 sts, k 2, yo, k2tog, k 1. Rep Buttonhole Row every 14th row 1 (3, 6, 2, 2) times, then every 12th row 6 (4, 1, 6, 6) times and AT SAME TIME, continue as follows: Row 17 and all WS rows to lower band [K 1, p 1] twice, k 1, p to last 5 sts, [k 1, p 1] twice, k 1. Row 18 [K to marker, yo, sm, k 1, yo] 4 times, k to end. Rep last 2 rows 10 (12, 15, 17, 19) times more, working buttonholes when necessary - 218 (238, 266, 282, 306) sts. Next row Rep Row 17. By my interpretation, the Buttonhole rows are rows: 16, 28, 30, 40, 44, 52, 58, 64, 72, 76, 86, 88, 100, 112, 114, 124, 128, 136, 142, and 148. Am I correct? Anyone care to tackle this for me?
