My name is Paulo Leite and I love buying/collecting records. As I grow my collection, I visit some of the best record shops in the world. On my videos, I will show you where they are located, and explore their CD/vinyl inventory. From time to time, I will also address issues that may interest music lovers and collectors.
Vinyl Records and CD's at a Street Fair
Recently, I went to renew my Driver's License, and on my way back, I found a small street fair with people selling old stuff. Among them, there was a guy selling a few vinyl records and CD's. Some good titles and discs in good condition. I even found one CD I wanted.
It's always great to see people selling records.
It was a good day.

My name is Paulo Leite, and music is a fundamental part of my life. I started buying music records when I was a kid, and never stopped. As my collection grows, I visit record shops everywhere - and I have lots of fun celebrating Music.
Why am I making these videos? Because I hate to see record shops die. Streaming is NOT music. Streaming is just background noise. Buy CDs. Buy vinyl. Buy whatever physical format you like. Buy music. Buy movies. Buy books. Our culture is our biggest asset. It's not free. There is no feeling like sitting down in order to enjoy a music record by your favourite Artist, holding it on your hand, appreciating its artwork, reading liner notes, putting the record on the player, and pressing the Play button.

If it was a very good record store you wouldn't tell anybody about it.

Elliot Carter, and that's it for the bottom shelves? The bottom shelves are where I find my most valued and valuable records. A week ago I was walking down 18th St. and in front of Academy Records in New York City, sitting in a box discarded was a mint copy of Fran Landesman Sings In The Style of Bob Dorough. I keep finding discarded masterpieces on the lower shelves.
Today I'm feeling like a Fine Young Cannibal
And how many did you go home with ? I want that Allison Moyet
My most lucky find at a used record store was SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977) . Oh, I have the CD of course. 📀 But sometimes you have to just say: "The CD is fine. But having the vinyl LP is having a piece of history." Heck. If I could have gotten an 8 TRACK of it, I would have gotten that too.
@@eternalhalloween1 It is indeed one of the best albums of the decade. Always a great buy.

For cartoon soundtracks look no further than Carl Stalling.

The "Psycho" section! Sure...
not to mention the prices are pretty good here ill have to check it out.
Is good, but Not the very Best for me...I can recommend criminal records and Mojo Vinyl Records for people in Atlanta
Thanks! I made a video too about Criminal Records. 😁
I will go for "Rockin' and Rollin'" by T Rex as it looks specially like a compilation album with many hits. My second choice will be the album by Kate Bush or else Roberta Flack. Thanks! 😊
@@janath9118 Awesome picks!
@BestRecordShops Thank you!
I really love these videos, so thanks :) As for the Jazz Messengers store (and webstore) I have mixed feelings. It is great to have brick-and-mortar stores with a vast selection and very friendly people to help us shopping… but I can’t help to be disappointed with the CD selection, with more and more titles and reissues from copy-from-cd Spanish unknown labels. Since I am not interested at those, my interest in the store was vastly diminished over the last years. Note: I only buy CDs.
Thank you very much for your comment. I am also a CD-only guy (unless I see something I love that's never been released on CD). In that context, I did some great shopping at Jazz Messengers. However, nowadays, as with everything, you need to know what you are buying. While some labels do have crummy sound, others do try (and succeed) to give you good stuff. Plus, sometimes you get great bonus tracks. Check my video on "It's a great time to buy CD's". I never go to a record shop without checking options onlne on my phote. Is this the best version? Is it a remaster? Does it have bonus tracks? Did they just released a deluxe edition? This way, I make sure I always get the best that's available. This way I rarely get disappointed. Keep your music going! 😝
You can get new records anywhere show more used stuff please
Hey... thanks for the comment! :-) This particular shop does NOT carry used records. However, take a look at my other videos, where I explore record shops with great used record collections. 🙂
Reissues are coming out everywhere, you can buy them online, and it is great. They are made better than the originals.
Acdc all the way
I think i will pick Whitney Houston's album as i know that best! 😊
Alice in Chains
Slipknot
Slipknot of course
Sepultura, always go for Sepultura.

Comprar, digo.

What a vast collection of CD's and vinyl records!!! 😮 I saw many, many albums and compilation albums which i like, here on the display boxes. Also i saw here a lot of instrumental albums and Jazz albums which i like. What i didn't see much are the rock albums. I wish i can see more of these CD's because i mainly collect CD's as the vinyl are more expensive. If i were there, i certainly will visit this Record shop, Fantasyland Records in Atlanta, USA and buy many, many albums which i like most! Thank you very much for this explanatory video! 😊
Thank you for watching. More record shops coming soon! 🙂

Best Record Shops in ATL: Mojo Vinyl, Ella Guru, a little further away B & T Music. All three are super friendly, knowledgable, with great prices.

Soooo many greats...Wish they would bring back these record shops...a genxers dream!!
@@stevencorsoe9575 I fully agree!
Great video. I can see prices only on new Records. Tell us something about the prices and conditions of used Records please
Thank you. The prices average 15-20 Euros. Some rarer albums go for 30+. Condition of all the albums I saw was very good. I did not see anything scratched or damaged. Of course, some covers show some ageing, which is normal, considering that some albums are 40+ years old. The management is very professional, and they WILL call out customers who don't hold the records with care.
Thank you very much

Some reissues are dark with shadows. Compare w/ OG and you'll see.
Which ones, Dorian?
@@BestRecordShops Just compare and contrast with originals. Even the artwork on titles that Chad Kassem is putting out isn't as good as OG's. Major label cd releases and reissues from boutique labels like Big Break, Cherry Red, and Funkytowngrooves have artwork that's much darker and less defined. Cd-r's have plagued the industry as well as they'll press them and not disclose. After Wounded Bird and One Way stopped doing reissues, the market suffered to a degree. Now the majors don't want to license to third party sellers and they only want to put it on streaming services with few options especially for those into music that's not that popular like soul music and jazz. I'm primarily into cds and whenever there were unique tracks issued, I always had enough income to buy. Now I'm getting multiple pressings of various collections on disc. It's like that HDH disc you mentioned. There were several iterations of it and a couple times it was listed as complete sessions. One things for sure; it's not coming back. Mainstream reissues on cd died about 15 years ago and for soul and jazz music it was about 8 years ago. Luckily I have all of the OJC's I need but the last few I sweated because Concord after purchasing Fantasy only wants to issue cd-r. But then they'll use Craft (their own side hustle) and press three titles a year. There's literally around 1,200 titles that were once in print on the Contemporary, Pablo, Riverside, and Prestige labels. The complete Wes Montgomery on Verve is another one with at least one track left off but it was included on a compilation. Mistakes and oversights happen but when it's on titles that just got reissued it's hard to fathom. As nice as the Motown boxes are that were put out by Hipo-select, there are at least 2 wrong versions on there. Bill Inglot did a good job remastering as he compared with known 45's and didn't go back what was written on the box holding the tape. Stuff gets mislabeled and companies were always kicking different mixes around. The golden days are long over! Even when it was solid, you never knew what mixes (mono v stereo) Motown was using on a given compilation. So many people compare Diamond Life by Sade UK vs US and they miss mentioning the spoken part on "Smooth operator" on the UK version. There's double tracked vocals as well. I originally came across this difference on a various artists cd I found. This is why I never get rid of compilations and search for rarely compiled tunes even if I already have them. Keith Barrow's "You know you want to be loved" was on various comps and when they reissued the album they used the single version and an alternate shorter version as bonus. The album version is nowhere to be found. The majors were involved in pulling the master tapes but nobody checked it against the Lp. Not comparing facts is a major issue that has gotten our society in huge trouble.
WOW! I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN CRIMINAL RECORDS AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S BIGGER THAN WAX N FACTS IN LITTLE FIVE POINTS! BUT IT LOOKS FANTASTIC! I COULD SPEND ALL DAY THERE WITH MY COUSIN ANGIE! WE ARE OLD SCHOOL THROUGH AND THROUGH (AGE 60'S)
@@dottiemathews6853 it’s much bigger.
I don't care much about the CDs , their worthless, bring on the LPs! CDs were rushed "unfinished" on the market, Bernie grundman tried to tell them they weren't done, but they decided not to talk to him anymore and ignore him! If 96k/24 bit was the CD, LPs wouldn't have came back! At least not to the extent it is now!😊

I would add Lalo's The Dead Pool. Excellent music, and the ultimate version of Harry's end theme, the very last piece of music ever in a Dirty Harry film -and gorgeous. Will give you shivers. Also, Les Baxter's The Dunwich Horror. Bought it in a cut-out bin in the 70s. Still love it. And the Brits have it right, it's pronounced Dun'Itch. The W is silent.

Thanks for showing us your cd collection which is rather eclectic and that's always good. I saw a Teddy Wilson that I needed on that Storyville label. Some gray market stuff/mixed sessions on one disc are really worth it. It's similar to Black Lion releases which are underrated yet sound good.
Thanks, Dorian. I'm a huge Teddy Wilson fan. I only showed a little of it. I am currently in the process of consolidating my collection. I'm having some additional shelves being made right now. Until then, the discs are all over the place. I will be talking about the issue soon.
