Fisher 30 Ep 42 - Walls Going UP Vision Coming ALIVE! - Sailboat Interior Progress
The refurbishing of a Motorsailer from 1976. This Fisher 30 Northeaster was in bad condition and has been torn down and are now being rebuilt inside. In this video I glue the first floor and challenge my abilities as a carpenter. I also take on gluing a big wall that ended up pulling much of my work together; finally! We continued the patching of the old portholes, and gave our near and dear carpenter Boat-Man John a visit, to monitor the teak progress.

    Nå begynner du å se resultatene av planleggingen! Gøy! Jeg nevnte Casco Cascol Polyuretanlim tidligere, og denne tror jeg hadde være en del lettere å bruke for å lime finerplatene og lektene fremfor å blande epoksy selv. Den er også ekspanderende, så den fyller opp sprekker og ujevnheter veldig bra. Nå skal ikke skryte på meg noe som helst erfaring med å blande slik du gjør, og du har kanskje gjort en vurdering på at din metode er sterkere og mer stabil over tid. Uansett, strøkent arbeid!

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad 3 дні тому

      Det kommer seg.... Til å lime plater foretrekker jeg faktisk epoxy fordi det er meget sterkt og trekker godt inn i treverket. Har brukt den limen på et hus jeg eier og den er glimrende til sitt bruk. Men i dette tilfellet så er epoxy overlegent bedre (etter min mening) :-)

    Hi Helge!!! Great progress on the interior of the boat! It's really beginning to come together enough to see your vision on much of the interior. I'm glad that you were able to finish glassing the exterior of the window openings -- i just hope that you get some good weather to finish sanding them and fairing them smooth ... getting a good coat of paint over them before winter is important as you don't want to leave the polyester exposed to the UV light for too long!!! It looks like you have quite a project to make a passage to the cabin ... good luck with that, as i don't envy you all of that work involved!! Have a great week!!

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad 3 дні тому

      The home brewing beer set I was using is actually half done already and one only put the stuff into a tank and put it to fermentation. We normally brew beer from the grain, but in this instance we only started with adding boiling water to the hops and then tempered water together with the concentrated syrup. Sort of cheating the process, but still a good beer... :-)

    Hey Dude! Happiness is a straight wall lol. looks really great. I wish I would have mentioned it earlier but you should inquire about using "Biscuits" or "Dutchman" for your joints. Boatman John can show you. Maybe it would be overkill?? Watch breathing those chemicals. I was a cabinetmaker and now I can't breath. You should work on the boat and let the wife and kids work on the cabin. Looking great!!

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad 3 дні тому

      Thanks! Yes, Boatman John is using "Biscuits" when joining and gluing the teak. I think it is not necessary on these plates and I dont really have the proper tools and skills to use them. The epoxy should be very strong. There will also come a floor that will keep the plates stiff too. Yes, the chemicals worries me a bit. Using a gas-mask when polyestering. Not when epoxying, but maybe I should do that. Sorry to read about your failing breath. Dream scenario that my wife and kids (grown ups) will do the work on the cabin! :-D

    The hull deck joint is 2 overlapping 2-3 inch wide flanges of fiberglass, each about 1/4 inch thick. The lifeline stanchions through bolt though both flanges, with the nuts and washer deep inside the hollow bulwarks. The teak cap rails also bolt to this flange. Water typically leaks in where the sections of cap rail meet (splice).and follow fastenings. I have no experience in freezing climates. But I "think" water which leaks in past failed sealants then freezes and expands, and this causes real damage that would never be seen in temperate climates. After a thaw more rain can and will then pour in. Repeat every year and my guess is this kind of damage occur. Of course, since the silly liner closes off all access to the hollow bulwarks it collects leaking water, and falls off. 40+ years of N. California rain and sun 35F to 95F hardly phased my 30 - although a previous owner did (wisely) remove all the vinyl liner. The aluminum framed ports in all old fishers will leak, and need to be carefully removed and rebedded with modern sealant. Corrosion may be an issue, but is obvious. The bronze ports also need to be carefully removed and sealed. in boats from any climate, due to age, sun .

      I guess you more or less nails it with this explanation. Can add that the fact that the hull flange is bent inward does add to the leaking, once the Sikaflex is cracking up... :-)

    With regard to polyurethane two pack paint with which you were painting you engine bearers,hand painting is relatively safe,but if you spray paint polyurethane the activator used is carsenogeric,so breathing apperatus must be used,and not in confined areas,just a heads up!

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad 8 днів тому

      Thanks for the heads up. Since then, the polyurethane paint has been redrawn from shops as it is now illegal to sell (in Norway and EU), due to health risk. So you were on to something...

    the engine now seems breathless as you have removed the air inlet. ugghe ugghe they used to say in Amsterdam in the sixties.

      Haha! I will find a new spot, better fitted for the new interior. Also I wish to make sure the 12V charger gets a lot of fresh, cool air, as the lithiums will make it work hard. Are they not still saying that, in the "coffee bars"...? ;-)

      Ohh! Have you got a Northeaster on your hands? Will you buy it? I guess you will find a lot of documentation in these videos. One of the problems is when the joining between the hull and the deck/superstructure cracks up. Then it leaks all the way...

    When I worked with chop strand and woven fibre glass in aviation industry always used epoxy resin,often used Kevlar woven mat for extra strength,was an pain to cut and shape,

      I can understand the need for max strength in the aviation industry. Kevlar mat...WOW! Have never used, less touched. Surely what the high performance trimarans are made of...(I guess). :-)

    Es ist eine wunderbare Landschaft, wenn nur das Klima besser wäre... Im Winter zu kalt. Im Sommer zu feucht. Ich bevorzuge das warme und trockene Klima. Tendenziell nach Asien, nur nicht so feucht.

    3:45 Der Turbo muss schon seit geraumer Zeit defekt gewesen sein; Die Ablagerungen entstehen nicht schon nach wenigen Betriebsstunden. 8:05 Wo ist der Ladeluftkühler? Es wäre genügend Kühlmedium vorhanden. Die Kühlbox könnte ein paar Pferde mehr mobilisieren und auch den Kraftstoffverbrauch senken.

    • @hsobstad
      @hsobstad 11 днів тому

      I agree. That turbo has been stuck for a long time. Dere is no intercooler on this engine. Absolutely no need for more power, only need 60% of this engines output to reach maximum speed of this hull. But a reduction in fuel consumption would be good....
